Hi dolphin,
Namaste :)
I do have one but prefer to use tibetan cymbals. Both are great for raising the energy levels :)
Sound is an interesting phenomenem. A few weeks ago at work there was a music lesson going on in the room next to me and they were drumming. Almost immediately I could feel my hands starting to buzz and I had to make a conscious effort to block the energy since I was working :) I would love to attend a shamanic drumming session!
Gentle Blessings
Helen

Dear Helen....could you have not just put your energy into your work...into the space that you were working? To enhance all that you were doing?

Otoahro!
We used to have drumming sessions in this area. I got a drum and spent a year or so drumming hours each day. My beat is the Chulan beat. When I am with a group, their beat is similar to the Native American's beat.
A friend of mine had a basement to her house big enough for a large gathering. We gathered there for drumming. She particularly wanted me to attend so she could find out about this beat. she asked me to start the drumming. I did and no one could join in with me. Finally one of the usual drummers, took over the beat and all the rest joined in. I simply stopped and listened.
I am getting forgetful. I hope I haven't shared this before!

Otoharo!
Actually, Ponderings, that is the kind of drum that I bought, the only one availabe at the time. I can't use the wrist movement and use a timpani stick instead. wonderful soft, full sound.

I have several bowls and I enjoy them mostly before meditation and after. I just enjoy the tones and the vibration in my body and mind. It is soothing and relaxing.

Just got one today. The C root one. I LOVE it. I cleansed all the rooms and my crystals. I plan to use it before and after my self reiki sessions.

No wonder your sound was such that they wanted to learn it, too. Sounds wonderful, finality.

Ponderings,
Namaste :)
I work with teenagers in a school so as much as I really would have loved to let the Reiki flow, it wouldn't have been ethical for me to do so, although I appreciate that there will be others that disagree :)

Guess this is where I have to disagree with some folks, Hon...I use Reiki for everything that I do...it enhances in ways that I could never imagine....I work with kids, folks, seniors...and Reiki is as much a part of me as the physical therapy background that took me so many years to get here, baby. If someone asks me specificially for Reiki....I ask their permission.....if I'm working with folks with all of my other skills....I ask Reiki to make it to the highest good....if, I think I might be intruding on someone without their better knowledge or desire....I internally or externally ask permission..and I've received it...yes or no....every time....if some believe that that is my ego talking....that's their belief and I'd not fault them for it. Ethical is all in the mind....when someone truly needs you....and your desire is healing to the highest good and to do no harm....are we letting them down by not doing so.....

Ponderings,
Namaste :)
I completely respect your passion, honesty and decision to do what you feel is the right thing for you :)
When I first started out with Reiki, I was kind of on a mission to 'heal' everybody and everything. I thought that just because I was into Reiki, everyone else should be too and why wouldn't anybody want healing afterall...:)) That was seven years ago and as I have grown with Reiki so have my ideals and values. In fact I would say within the first 6 months I was beginning to think very differently. These days I know that it is Reiki that heals and I am simply a channel for that. I have made a conscious decision never to channel Reiki around someone unless they absolutely and with full knowledge give me their permission to do so. You see I feel that it is simply not my right to judge whether someone truly needs Reiki or not, it's their call. For me I see it as invading their space. Maybe that is me letting them down or overcomplicating things, but I just don't see it that way and to be honest I know that it's not something that I am ever likely to change my mind about. :)
I know I have said it before but it is my personal belief that sometimes compassionate action is not always to send Reiki, sometimes it takes more compassion not too (and believe me there have been times I have struggled with this). I know that others will disagree and that's fine because I'm not here to put others down for their beliefs or convince others that there is only one way to do things. We are all different and all have something unique and valuable to offer and that is what I love about this place. :)
Gentle Blessings
Helen

Helen,
Most all of what you have said also resonates within me and how I practice Reiki.
Reiki is foremost for us and our own clearing, balancing and hopefully healing. The clearest channel is the best channel of energy. When we become this then with intent, compassion and love, we can help others when they request it.
And to the original post about singing bowls, no I don't use them but have been around them in the past and love their sound. I also love the voice of the drum, rattle, and chimes with deep tones.
All blessings,
Donna

Personally, I prefer to keep my Reiki sessions and my Bowl sessions separate
Some of the bowls I work with produce energetic phenomena not easily integrated with Reiki

James,
/*\ Namaste :-}}
- I agree
- Reiki practices really stand alone quite well
- trying to integrate other energies means adding intentions to a Reiki session that really do not belong there
- intentions for which recipients may not have given permission
