I read Steve Murray's Reiki The Ultimate Guide Vol. 3 and tried what he calls "aura attunements" on my sister and a friend. The results were extreme - the issues/emotions that I had tried to heal were magnified to the point where neither of them left the house for 2 days (my friend reported he was feverish and delirious). So I had to tell them to choose smaller issues. I want to know if anyone has had similar results with this.
I have recently learned psychic surgery for my Reiki level 3 and tried it on my sister with the same issue as the aura attunement. She felt a little better after the session but she couldn't perceive a difference in her emotional wellbeing. Are these methods interchangeable?
My Reiki Master who taught us psychic surgery says she doesn't use it because energy will go where it's needed anyway. I have more friends that are interested in having their emotions/issues cleared but I don't want to do an aura attunement on them and make them sick! But if psychic surgery is not as effective, I might as well do a general reiki session on them and tell them that their issues will clear up eventually. Any thoughts?

Tardisgirl,
/*\ Namaste :-}}
- first of all, there are any number of practitioners who will hold that the energy does NOT know where to go
- I am one of those
- in the case you site, for example, if the energy truely knew where to go, then why did your sister not get the results she might have wished??
- as for what you will be taught as 'psychic surgery', I have no clue - I have come across any number of practices that the practitioners refer to as "psychic surgery" and some of them are not remotely similar
- for myself? I would be rather careful as to what you get into with whatever you think you are being taught, 'psychic surgery-wise'
- and, how much do you explain to your sister beforehand?
- other people are not guinea pigs - unless they go into a session knowing they are participating in practices the practitioner is developing (or example, more that 200 hundred folks volunteered, sometimes several times, to be "guinea pigs", a fond reference, as I developed the Distance Ketsueki-kokan practices over the past 6-7 years; they received written information about the practice beforehand, what they might expect, etc. and also got feedback about their session if they requested it)
- hope this helps

Thanks for your insight Firekeeper. I was told by my Usui Reiki Master that the energy would go where it is needed and I've always performed Reiki under this assumption.
I don't see my Reiki receivers as guinea pigs because I was told that Reiki could do no harm as it is healing energy.
Even though I don't really understand how the Steve Murray's aura attunements works, nor the psychic surgery which I was taught (it is a William Rand technique), I just assumed it was working towards healing because the Reiki energy will only heal.
I have to think about your assertion that energy needs to be directed because perhaps that is why some Reiki sessions are better than others.
I only work on family and friends so they are aware that I'm a novice but I do warn them that there may be physical and emotional releasing.
Thanks again for your advice.

In regards to psychic surgery. I've learned a technique which I won't go into detail about, cause it'd probably bore the pants of yea. So I'm aware of the tool. I wouldn't claim that it does work, likwise wouldn't claim it doesn't. But it helps with my focus and intent on where I'd like the reiki to go.
Now. Thing is, I realise that some would advocate that reiki goes where its needed and 'knows' where to go. My thoughts on that are that reiki is just another word and vechicle for the energy that we as practioners know it as.
Its a spiritual energy, so therefore pertains to the spirit. In regards to whether it knows where to go, I don't have a clue, but I do have a theory.
Since, thee and me are spirits within a fleshy body. Then therefore there are spirits without a fleshy body. Some are caretakers, and some give help via the tools at their disposal. So logic, would dictate, that if you'd ask these caregivers for help with 'sending' reiki, they would have a most heavenly bid to do so, more than thee and me. Intent goes a long way.
It follows as well that since, thee and me, are spirits within a fleshy body. Conciously or not, the spirit knows where the energy is needed. So My Spirit will facilitate with the reiki with my concious intent will place the reiki there> and your spirit, will then take up the reiki and place it where its needed, regardless of my intent in the first place.
We might not conciously 'know' where the reiki goes, but Spirit knows.
Some of the above might be take this like a load of horseradish, tasty to some, but some would also find it a bit bitter to swallow.
Smile: It gives you an edge. :)

tardisgirl,
/*\ Namaste :-}}
- I should also add that there are, in fact, circumstances where Reiki practices done without the permisssion and\or knowledge of the recipient may provoke serious, unwanted responses to the energy - thus "making Reiki" harmful
- I speak here from personal experience where, even with permission, a 'harmful' result came from doing energy work with people challenged by significant psychiatric disorders
- the matter is really is quite serious
- any energy work may, under certain conditions, go awry
- to chance this with someone's permission is one thing
- to chance this with someone who has no idea he\she will receive energy is, to me, quite unthinkable
- hope this helps

Jaguar,
Reiki is much simpler than the things I read you saying. In my opinion, that is. Healing is the province of reiki but that is all. When we shut up our head which tends to interfere, distract. ( When I was learning how to do this, we told it to go to its room and count beans. It loves to count things.) Reiki needs no asistence from guides, or helpers of any kind. Simply be reiki. that is all it takes.
