In the past couple of days, I've run across so many take offs from reiki that have reiki in their name.
From another thread, I began to wonder:
1> IS reiki faith based?
2> IS it some form of faith-healing?
3> Has anyone been healed using reiki without believing in it?
Anyone care to share their opinion or experiences with this.

Hi swarm,
Firstly let me say that animals (who can often see the energy) are healed by reiki - as far as I know no one suggests they have faith. Plants too are influenced by reiki energy - same for them.
However anyone who thinks that the attunenment and consequential passing on of energy is just mechanistic is wrong - that is the least part of it.
Faith is a strange word - I first checked out the spiritualists because they do not belive in faith but expect evidence - whereas faith is believing in something that cannot be proved. The energy is real and can be felt, the results are clear for all to see, so no faith is needed....except the idea that 'sending for the highest good' is a form of faith in 'who'? that someone will make the right choices. When we send energy we need to consider the consequences, not only to the recipient but to everyone affected, and we need to be ready to be held to account for those changes - this is a big responsibility - and it requires a full understanding of the use of the word 'healing'. Remember that we can affect individuals on many levels including spiritual - even after death reiki works. Taking responsibility is part of the journey we have to take - one of the lessons to be learned, and it can be tough at times.
love
chris

Hi Swarm,
Namaste :)
In my opinion Reiki is neither faith based nor faith healing. Having said that, I suspect that somebody that is not sceptical of receiving Reiki might achieve greater healing results due to the fact that they are much more open to receiving the energy and allowing healing to take place.
3> Has anyone been healed using reiki without believing in it?
My husband has always been sceptical about Reiki. For many years he has suffered with severe back pain and Irritable Bowel Syndrome. When I first became Reiki he 'allowed' me to practise on him and I was all set on 'healing' his back pain (at this point I hadn't learnt to set aside my own expectations), anyhow several treatments later his back pain was as bad as ever but his IBS was 90% improved :)
I have had points in my life where I have wondered whether Reiki really works or whether it is just some kind of placebo effect. All I know for sure is that it is incredibly relaxing and reduces stress and even that alone enables the body to heal itself better. I have not witnessed any 'miracle' cures myself with Reiki but I have seen it help people cope better with what life has thrown at them and make it more bearable.

swarm,
/*\ Namaste :-}}
- I sometimes wonder when someone will revisit this topic
- one view is that for those that know that Intention and mindfulness are quite sufficient for energy work, faith (however one might define it) is irrelevant

Swarm,
Namaste...
My uncle is very "A" type personality...skeptical, analynical, scientific etc. etc.
He suffers from rheumatoid arthritis, hips and feet in particular. Out of sheer desparation for some pain relief, he went to a Reiki practitioner, mostly to quiet my aunt from her urgings.
:-)
He was totally amazed by his experience. His hips had loosed up considerably and he could walk without a terrible limp.
Of course his condition persists...but he is so grateful for the relief that he gets both physically and mentally. Pain is so draining to both.
If this were a faith healing, it would contradict his relief as he had zero faith. (My aunt and I of course love to tenderly tease him now about it all.) And he is always singing Reiki praises to anyone who will listen. I love working with him.
:-)
It's best to see Reiki as Reiki and faith as faith. I suppose a practitioner has to have some degree of faith that the energy exists, especially when first learning... as most of us can't see it. But with practice you will certainly experience it in some form or another and would find it hard to deny it's existance.
:-)
Peace,
Mammabear

MAMMA BEAR, :)
THAT'S EXACTLY ""IT"" IN A NUT SHELL, & VERY WELL SAID ...
I MYSELF HAVE 'FIBROMYALGIA', (A VERY 'NEVER LET UP' BODY PAIN ALL OVER).... :( SOME TIMES , (VERY OFTEN) I WILL GO INTO BAD 'FLARES'...(AS YOU CAN ALSO WITH R.A)....& PAIN IS EVEN WORSE....
REIKI FOUND 'ME', TO HELP 'ME COPE' WITH ALL THIS, AS,(LIKE YOUR UNCLE!) I SING 'REIKI' PRAISES ALL THE TIME....
& IT """DOES HELP"""" BODY/MIND/SOUL, AFTER I GIVE MY SELF A FEW 'REIKI' TREATS....& MY FLARES ONLY LAST A VERY SHORT TIME NOW, INSTEAD OF WEEKS OR MONTHS....
I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF 'FAITH HEALING' LASTING FOR SO LONG AS 'REIKI' TREATS DO....IMHO IT REALLY IS A PLACEBO EFFECT IN THAT FIELD & IN THE MIND OF THE PATEINT.....NOT SO WITH 'REIKI'
I TREAT MYSELF MOST DAYS FOR ONE HOUR PM.(MAINLY FOR THE RELAXATION IT BRINGS TO MY BODY.)
BUT WHEN 'FLARING' TREAT THE PAINFUL JOINTS & MUSCLES 2-3 TIMES A DAY......""SWEET RELIEF""" IN LESS THAN A WEEK....
MY HUSBAND HAS A BAD BACK,...THAT 'REIKI' WILL FIX IT UP IN LESS THAN A WEEK!!!!
DO I SOUND BIAS????.....THAT'S CUS I AM....:))))))
LOVE TO YERS..

reiki isn't faith based, but it helps. Asking to reiki without outcome, and non attachment is a form of faith. I don't have faith that reiki works. I do have faith that it might or mightn't and am realising on the fact.
I don't have reiki faith, but I do feel faith in reiki.
I also have faith in bio-energy. Or more precisely in the practioner in bio-energy I go to sometime.
There is truth that the less stressed your body is, the more chance that it will heal itself.
I once spoke to a man who reiki'd a lady with breast cancer. It cleared up.
That doesn't mean in my book, that reiki healed her. It just helped her to heal. Along with everything else, reiki is just a complementary add on for good health.
Much like tomatos are good for mens prostate.
You couldn't say that tomatos healed me of prostate cancer.
But it helps!!

YES THE RELAXATION 'REIKI' GIVES THE BODY IS A BIG KEY TO HEALING....OR EASING PAIN ETC:, & ONE DOES 'NOT' NEED FAITH FOR THIS TO HAPPEN...
IT IS A WELL KNOWN FACT THAT """"" STRESS"""""CAN BE A KILLER, IT'S OUR BIGGEST PROBLEM IN CAUSING DISEASE..
IN TO DAYS 'PROBLEM WORLD'....'REIKI' TREATS ARE NEEDED MORE THAN EVER........I THINK THERE ARE MORE DOCTORS ANT-STRESS PILLS BEING SOLD THAN ANYTHING!!!! VALIUM & THE LIKE.......
NOT THAT THEY DON'T HAVE THEIR PLACE IN CERTAIN CASES TO PROMOTE SLEEP.....ANOTHER 'GREAT BODY HEALER'......
'REIKI' IS ""MORE & MORE NEEDED""" IN OUR MODERN WAY OF LIFE, IT RELAXES...((MOST OF MY PATIENTS WILL FALL A SLEEP THEY ARE SO RELAXED..)....IT STOPS 'STRESS'...IT EVEN HAS THE ABILITY TO HELP US 'SORT OUT' OUR PROBLEMS WE ARE "STRESSING'' ABOUT.... GET OUR PERSPECTIVE & PRIORITIES IN THE RIGHT ORDER.....
HAVE A GREAT DAY/NIGHT,? WHERE EVER YOU LIVE IN THIS BIG WORLD....

My dearest MammaBear,
/*\ Namaste :-}}
- so glad to see you here!

- if one experiences the energy both sending and receiving??
- where does faith need to come in??

- of course, it might all be an illusion!

My Dear Keeper of this Cafe Fire,
Namaste...
Alas, some don't feel the energy straight away, one way or another...but will eventually if they persist with practice and have a teacher who is accessable to help.
:-)
Then, yes...no faith is required.
Only awareness...which is all that is really needed to begin with but for all of us, that arrives in varying degrees of time.
So we have faith that there is something to be felt because we are told so by our teachers and other practitioners...so we keep working on our awareness of it.
So much illusion, so little time...
... time, another illusion.
bagl
Sun today where I am. Joy, joy... :-) Let the Spring...spring.
Have a happy day,
Mammabear

MammaBear,
/*\ Namaste :-}}
- awareness is little more than perception (which is ever-changing and impermanent - a pretty decent definition of Illusory)
>:-}}}}}
- does this mean that if there is no 'awareness' there is no Illusion? Only faith?
- yet, faith is also changes and is impermanent, is it not??
>:-}}
- Time?? It is simply how we perceive or judge the impermanence of all things, including ourselves

consensus seems to be again, that it is not faith-healing.
So, why is it so often compared to faith-healing?
I guess we'd have to ask those who make the connection.
Firekeepeer:
Sorry if I exercise you with subjects you've slogged out more than once. I just ask em as I see em.
