Lots of basic questions from a newbie

Hi everyone,

I am so happy to have found this wonderful online community! Though I have been practicing meditation and energy work on myself for a while, I just recently became Reiki 1 certified and I have tons of questions that I would really appreciate your perspectives on. Please be patient with the basic nature of these questions...I am learning ; )

Ok, so I can definitely feel when I am channeling Reiki energy and can feel the energy of others, but where I am stumped is with what to do with it.

1. Does the order that you address the Chakras matter? In my class we started at the crown and worked towards the root. But I have noticed others saying different directions. Does the order matter?

2.If so, when do you go one way vs. another?

3. I tend to feel energy in 3 main ways...tingling in my fingers, a magnetic pressure in my palms and heat. Do I do the same thing with each of these or do they mean something different?

4. Let's say I feel pressure from the center of the heart chakra, does this mean that there is enough energy there and I should move on? Or does this mean that it needs balancing? I guess the confusion for me comes on this one from the question of - are we putting energy into chakras... or are we putting it in and taking it right back out to sort of "flush" the system?

5. When you feel a concentration of energy do you put your hands directly on that spot or do you put your hands on either side of it...to create a sort of flow/spread?

6. What if you feel the energy from an expanded distance from their body (ie a couple of inches or so above their body) does that mean that they are balanced/energized there or does that mean they need work there?

7. When do you clear away excess energy - only when there is excess heat??

8. What about parts of the body that aren't major chakra centers... when in your session to you treat them? Do you mainly identify them through scanning or some other technique?

9. If a client has a pain or problem in a particular body part do you treat that part directly or through an associated chakra?

Thanks in advance for any insights you can provide!

peanutbutteryaya,

/*\ Namaste :-}}

- my simple answer to your #4 is that in classic Reiki practice the energy is brought to the recipient and he\she uses the energy as best as may be according to his\her gifts, intentions, and mindfulness

- a practitioner's only intention is to get the energy there

- we do not do chakra clearing or balancing - that is an intention that may not be known to or agreed upon by recipient\client

- there are clearing practices but the essentials of Reiki do not include those (as something the practitioner does) except perhaps for the finishing sweeps that asome are taught - but such a final 'dusting off' is generally fairly superficial

- and there are other pranic practices people may do for chakra balancing (generally for themselves but with practice one can aide others with this) - but these are areas of skill for personal growth and development

- this takes us to your #1: although the hand positions in a full treatment begin at the head and work caudally down the body, the idea is to bring energy into the spheres of influence of the chakras and associate organs and structures - really not to the chakras themselves (there are more direct ways to access the chakras energetically than a Reiki treatment)

- Reiki really is not a chakra system practice - so I would not get to hung up on that

- an area that needs work may 'tell' one this any number of ways: hot, cold, lack of energy movement, press of energy away or significant 'inhaling' of energy - and if one has other 'sight', problem areas may appear grey, black-ish, brownish, more dense than the surrounding energy, and many more (heat and cold and tingling are the most common and least subtle of the ways in which we can sense what may be going on, energy-wise, and which may also point to physical (dense) isssues

- the more hands-on work you do and the more feedback you get from clients or others with whom you do Reiki the more intuitive you may become (but you must also learn to trust your experiences of the energy flow and your interpretations without excluding the feedback you get)

>:-}}

- sooooo, practice, practice, practice (but do not diagnose and practice to keep as many of your personal intentions as you can to yourself (they may not coicide with intentions held by the reciipient and it is those that are truly Key)

- hope this helps as a starter

Reiki All Around,

All Blessings,

Firekeeper

namaste,
nice name you chose for yourself.

the best way to learn something is ask lots of questions. you will not get answers to all of your questions and then you may have to seek within yourself for replies.

sometimes you do feel the energy of others. even i do. however, one should not get too conected. try to remove yourself from the healing process and let the energy flow.

healing through chakras comes under a separate system of healing like pranic healing. you may be guided to do so later on. but for the present stick to what has been taught by your rm.

yes you can start giving reiki from the head and come downwards right down to the feet.

feeling of energy is in different ways. tingling everyone practically feels. as you work more and more with energy you will understand the difference and the energy will be accessable to you more and more.( currents/bubbles/jerks/cracking sounds etc can also be felt later on). depletion of energy in a certain area is indicated by energy being sucked in from your hands, where there is a congestion in the area (the energy seems to want to push out from the body of the patient. then there is cold air and hot air feeling. learn to decipher them. reiki itself is a very good guide, it will inform you how to proceed. trust yourself and reiki. keep talking to the patient he will inform him what he is feeling at various stages of treatment. if you are guided to do healing from slightly above them beam reiki. excessive heat/hot air from patient means negative energy for me and requires to be swept out using symbols etc. in case you have been taught then ask your rm to guide you as to how exactly to use them. as regrds how to place your hands try above the area and sides also. if you feel excessive heat from ears then you would naturally place the hands on both ears.

do a byosan (scanning) of your patient the first thing. tingling hot and cold sensations will make you know the problems. as the chakras system there are major chakras, minor and intermediate as well as some subsidery chakras. please do not get into these at present. at third level, if you are guided by your inner voice then learn about them, for the present stick to reiki and the major chakras if necessary

if your patient has pain in a particular area, after the bio scan you can heal the major positions of reiki and get down to the problametic area. you will be guided to the chakra/associate chakra/area for necessary healing if needed by your inner voice, please listen to it.

Dear Newbie,
I was taught by my first RM to start with the feet and nothing about Chakras not that they aren't valid. Just learn from someone who truly knows from reliable sources. I think it's good to question.
Peace,
Prosperity

As for me, when I read your post i found my palms tingling, and that magnetic pressure or pull, is somehow how I wouldn't have described it but would have difficulty doing so. What an apt description.

So, even from your questions, I learned from you. Thanks for that.

Now When it comes to doing reiki, I find the best for me is to tune into my own body and ask, What would I need, or feel the need for. This is while treating someone.

In time, you'll learn whats right for you, but for the mean time, question everything. It doesn't mean you have to try everything. This is where intuition comes into it.

congrats by the by.

Happy trails.

I am a very analytical person and I found reiki very frustrating at first because I was analyzing every part of it.

I then told myself it is ok to let go and just be. I am a very process oriented person and I was always looking for the right process eg chakras, feet head to toe.

What I do is start at the head chakra and work my way down each charkra. As I go along if I feel drawn to go to a different area then I go there. That's it. It is way more effective for me because I am concentrating on what I am doing and not thinking.

I don't think there is a right way or a wrong way. The fact is that you are channeling energy. Trust your instincts and you will be fine.

For the record I am an INTJ for those of you who know what this is. Is there any more more of you out there?
