Otoharo!
My information is that we can not give ourselves reiki. I learned it by trying to and having to reswort to meditation. This is information from Xaris. I will report any further matters about this.

HI FINALITY,
SORRY BUT CAN'T AGREE ON THIS ONE!
AS I WAS TOLD TO GIVE MYSELF A LOT OF 'REIKI' AFTER ATUNEMENTS......
I ALWAYS GIVE MYSELF A 'REIKI' TREAT: WHILE I MEDITATE ALSO.
& CAN RID MYSELF OF A SILENT MIGRAIN, PLUS OTHER PROBLEMS, BY GIVING MYSELF HAND ON!
LETS SEE WHAT OTHERS SAY?....
I DO AGREE ON ONE THING THOUGH, REIKI GIVEN IO ME BY ANOTHER 'IS' STRONGER......
LOVE TO YOU,
WENDY OZ XXX

finality,

- I would say that Xaris was mistaken
- unless Xaris took training in and practiced Reiki, the claim cannot be taken as a serious one and from my own experience I cannot validate such an assertion

Interesting.
Yet, in the Reiki Ryoho Hikkei (Reiki Treatment Companion) in response to the question:
"So, I can heal other people with it, but can I also heal myself?"
Usui-sensei gives the following response:
"If we can't heal our own disorders, how could we heal others?"

The same could be said about love and forgivness, in that how can we love or forgive another if we don't love and forgive ourselves?

I would have to disagree as well. Self Healing with Reiki has been a saving grace in my life for some years now, I dont know where I would be without it.

James,
/*\ Namaste :-}}
- very good to see you here
>:-}}
- self-healing can be a separate issue to 'healing others'
- the modality being a major factor
- Reiki practice does not heal others - others may use the energy for their owen healing but it is the recipient's intention and mindfulness that matter (Reiki practitioners are not to try and project their intentions into energy work with others)
- the Reiki practitioner is responsible for (and may only take credit for) getting energy to those who ask for it)
>:-}}
- Shamans, on another hand, have performed a variety of healings for others thru the centuries - yet are not a priori able to heal their own ills
- so, there may be some parallel here with a Reiki practitioner who is very adept at getting energy to others but has blind spots to his\her own healing needs or is unable to manifest the necessary mindfulness and Intention for his\herself
- just as there may be Reiki practitioners who are quite adept at energy for work for themselves but may have difficulty with distance work, for example

I would go so far as to say we can only heal ourselves and if I encounter the yellow brick road, I would want to go in the opposite direction.

I'm curious why you would go in the opposite direction.
I thought the point of the yellow brick road was the lessons learned to get to where Dorothy needed to be.

ALAS! Somebody gets my metaphor! Yes "The Yellow brick Road" is a playful mataphor for my own healing journey! And its particualarly funny to me, due to the fact that I live in Seattle( The Emerald City as people around here like to call it ).
Presperity: I can empathise with your need to stay anchored in Relaity: We all have our own path to walk, but yes it is Important to be in the here and now, it is the best way to learn the lessons this world has to teach!

prosperity,
/*\ Namaste :-}}
- some contents of our dreams and wishes may be manifested
- but we must act and take the first step (that may be the 'yellow brick road')
- then effort and diligence, of course

- as a teacher once mused: ahh! the dreams from which things are made

I use visualizations with my prepare for surgery clients
Using imagination can be helpful to healing. I found it to be powerful during my self healing journey. Stepping out of the medical world, into my world, enhanced my healing power and lead me towards the world of Reiki.
