A student?

Namaste all!

I have had my name up on websites for a while now, finally, I have gotten a call from someone who wants to learn Reiki. He sounds serious. This would be my first student. I've been rehearsing in my mind all day how I would present Reiki, and now I'm having trouble sleeping. My middle of the night insecurity. Am I up to the task? Some words of encouragement would be appreciated. Or suggestions, too.

He said the reason he liked me was I taught I and II seperately. I thought that was the only way it was done, to give time for clearing after the attunement, and to give a person time to get used to working with the energy at that level. Do teachers really do it the other way?

Blessings, and Reiki Light,
Roxy

Hi Roxy;

yes people really do it that way.

In many of the "newer" versions of reiki, including the Usui/Tibetan ones, they teach levels one and two together.

They generally have added in so called "advanced" material that technically is neither advanced nor reiki, and teach two levels at level three.

So they are still doing three levels, so to speak, level 1/2, Level 3a or Advanced Reiki Training or what I call Reiki Advanced Training or RAT for short :) and the the Master Level. Often the "advanced" level is called Reiki Master Practitioner and the other level III is called Reiki Master Teacher.

Now that makes it all clear, right?

Take gentle care;

Vinny

Hi!

Well congratulations!

Yes it is a bit nerve wracking the first one. Having suffered from sleep disturbances I can say that meditatinghelps alot. The one that you relax your first toe, than relax your second toe etc going through the whole body is a good one. Also the chakra balancing one will probably help. That's where you draw the colour of the chakra into it and make it flow clockwise and in an even circle. Usually I find the third eye is over working and the base is blocked.

Don't forgot that you have plenty of helpers to call on. I always set the intention that if I make any 'mistakes' that they be corrected for me. You don't have to be 'perfect' you just have to be you.

I personally think it is better to do Reiki one and two separately because there is a lot for a person to integrate.

Hi again Vinny,

I have been reading your site, and I notice you mention the method of giving four attunements at Level I. I have heard of this before, but I only received one attunement at that level. Is there any reason four attunments is superior? Is it to more completely connect with the Energy. Does it matter? Inquiring minds want to know.

Blessings,
Roxy

Roxy,

That is great news!!! I can understand you wondering how it will go. I've have had one student so far and have attuned him to level one. I like the idea of all 3 levels being taught separately because I know the adjustment I went through between each level; being that was the way I was taught.

I was nervous too but as was pointed out to me by my teacher - the student is just that, the student, and as long as you ask for help from your reiki guides during the attunement all shall go well. I ask that they read Diane Stein's book "Essential Reiki" up through the level of the attunement they are getting so that I am assured that they have a basic knowledge, the background, etc. It also has very detailed pictures of the hand positions for them to refer to while practicing on themsleves or others. I then put together some printed materials I give them re: different aspects of Reiki depending on which level they are being attuned to. Of course, since only having attuned one person to level one - most of this hasn't been utilized yet but I feel it has helped me to prepare myself for the task at hand.

I was finally able to get my own Reiki table so I can start doing healings out of my home and I'm a little nervous about that. I have my first appt. this week so....I know exactly how you feel. I am so glad you posted because it brought to mind something I have heard said time and again in the Reiki world "nothing comes your way with reiki until you are ready to handle it" so....here we go!!!

You'll do great and I'll be sending Reiki your way.

Love, Light and Reiki Rainbows,

In Unconditional Love Always

I too am nervous about teaching reiki but I just attuned two young boys aged about 10 and it was so wonderful and special. I was told by my guides and reiki friends that I was ready but I was not sure. So with a lot of help I developed a 'reiki for children' system and it worked out so well that I am going to make it my life's work. The two boys reacted wonderully describing and drawing what they saw during the attunements that it was a lesson for me too. Have confidence that if you know that you are ready then you will be guided. Reiki is love and it will always be there to guide you.
My Reiki for children course includes a lot of drawing, using energy, discovering your energy,sharing crystals, making crystal wands and learning how to use reiki. It is similar to reiki 1 for adults but brought down to the children's level.
Do contact me if you need any help or information.

Greetings again Roxy;

metta and namaste.

The practice of giving 4 attunements at level one is from Takata as she was taught by Hayashi.

I have never met anyone that could explain how the four developed. My suspicion goes along these lines......

In Usui's practices people met often, weekly. They practice breathing meditations, Hatsurei Ho, and did healings on each other. While practicing Hatsurei Ho, they received an empowerment (attunement) called "reiju". They received this OFTEN. It is probably from this practice that the idea of doing 4 comes from in some fashion. Maybe it is related to the 4 reiki symbols.
Now move forward to Hayashi. When Hayashi taught Takata, the name apparently was "Usui Shiki Ryoho". Later, his group was called "Hayashi Reiki Ryouhou Kenkyu-kai", or Hayashi Reiki Research Society. He made some fairly substantial changes to the system. One of them appears to be how "attunements" were done and when they were received. Hayashi appears to have been the one who continued teaching the symbols and they are incorporated into his attunements.

When Takata learned them, there were four attunements done at level I. These four attunements were exactly the same, done in the same manner (although some teach some variations in the hand positions on the head for each level).

Each attunement was designed to do something different. There was a name or process associated with each attunement at level one. They were called "sweeping, scrubbing, waxing and polishing". The name should give an idea of what they were thought to do. They were done with a minimum of three hours between them, but no more than a day between each.

Hope that helps.

Take gentle care;

Vinny

Namaste Vinny (by the way, what does metta mean?)

Yes, it helps a lot. With the prospect of my first student, I am looking at comparative ways to teach. I am realizing now that much of what my Teacher taught me is not Reiki at all....but other alternative methods of healing. I want to keep it to Reiki alone, let the crystals, etc. fall into the student's own preference. Having read much on Reiki, I may present comparative views on the subject, and let the student make up his own mind.

Your explanation of the attunements makes sense to me, I think I will use that method. In my reading about the Hatsurei-ho, I noticed that it was done every day, too.

Thanks,
Roxy

Hi
I read this recently and thought it might help
"If you really desire something enough all the forces in the universe conspire to make it happen"
I have probably mis-quoted but you get the gist.
On the disturbed sleep front I find if i place my hands on my sacral chakra and ask the energy to bring me sleep I go out like a light even when I am worried or suffering from over active brain syndrome!
Godd luck
