Namaste All,

Does anyone know whether children can become naturally attuned to Reiki or not, without actually going through an attunement process ?

My 7 year old daughter likes to reiki my mother-in-law, who is a level III practitioner. Her nan has always given her Reiki treatments over the last couple of years and she loves it and is quite into pretending to Reiki her nan. However, my mother-in-law says that she thinks that my daughter is naturally attuned to Reiki, as she feels heat and sees colours when Emma 'reiki's' her. Is this possible?

I know that children are a lot more open than we are as they do not carry so much negativity and their chakras are not so blocked, but I thought that to channel Reiki you had to have been attuned. If it is the case that she is chanelling, then I want to teach her to protect and ground herself.

Has anyone any thoughts on this?

As Reiki Master - What does your mother-in-law think about all this?

Personally, I find that the possibility increases that spontaneous awareness of 'symbols' can occur during Reiki treatments - especially to those open to energy in general- and the symbols do not necessarily have to be Reiki symbols.

Has Emma been naturally attuned? I don't know.

Does she describe any experiences when she either receives or 'sends' Reiki with her nan? with you?

Any changes when she focuses her 'intent'?

Heat is not the only indication of Reiki just as heat does not necessarily signify Reiki.

Another view is that Emma may be an 'easy' channel right now with perhaps a mixture of energies coming through from time to time.

I was thinking about this, when Firekeeper posted his reply.
Is Emma attuned to reiki? Possbily. Everyone has healing abilities. It is a case that most people don't choose to activate that ability, consciously or unconsciously. Children are said to be naturally psychic, so it is quite possible that with growing up in a reiki environment she has 'picked up the vibes' of reiki.
From your posting, I assume you are surround by family members who are open to alternative healing, and that too, can only be beneficial to Emma.
The author of a book I read recently said that her child was so 'into' reiki, she decided to attune him, (I think it was a boy) to reiki I and then reikiII and he was only eight!:-)))
It may be that she is intentionally copying you, and if, we all agree, intent is enough in many cases....:0)))

Just to explain, my mother-in-law is not yet a Master, level III is split into two parts over here, so she is classed as a level III practitioner....I don't really understand why it is done this way, Jonjo probably knows as I believe she is a Master.

Pam seems to think that it is possible that she may have become attuned....I wonder more whether she is quite 'tuned' in with her nan and that is why Pam sees colours. Emma has not yet tried to 'Reiki' me, so I'll ask her and see what happens, although perception can vary a lot between different people.

When we Reiki Emma, she sees colours sometimes. Other than that, it usually relaxes her and sends her to sleep.

I have asked her to start imagining herself wrapped in a white cloak before she trys to 'Reiki' in order to protect herself from any energies other than Reiki.

I agree totally with what you're saying about children being more open. :) I would say your daughter is definitely channeling healing. I think maybe what is happening with Emma is the natural healing ability present in all of us, has been given a 'kick-start' or 'boost' by her nan's reiki treatments.

A similar experience was when i was Reiki I, i gave my mother many reiki treatments (she was one of the few people that would let me practice on them - a non reiki-apathist? hehe. :) ). Anyway, the night after one particularly intense treatment, she began to feel tingling in her palms and fingers - it was a couple of days before it stopped. A couple of weeks later, after more treatments, she could feel the characteristics of a slight flow of healing energy (tingling, warmth). This was in short bursts, but not always 'at will'. Her sensitivity to stones and crystals was also heightened due to her ability to pick up on energies. Healing energy or reiki - it's the same stuff but a different name don't you agree? :)

Yes Reiki is very natural to Emma, she just thinks that it is something that everyone does I think :))) Both my in-laws are attuned to Reiki.

I'll have to see if she will 'Reiki' me and see what happens.

She often says that she has seen a fairy or lady walk across the living room and I never know whether she has a wonderfully vivid imagination or whether she is naturally open to such things. I always treat what she says with respect, my only concern really, is that she learns to protect herself.

Funny you should say that because my husband was always quite sceptical about Reiki, but has been a willing guinea pig since my attunements :))) He has actually started to get all the tingling sensations too and my mother-in-law joined me giving him a Reiki last sunday and she noticed a big difference from the last time that she treated him, which was some time ago. Also now, sometimes when I am sending distant healing, he also gets the tingling sensation :)

I think that there are many different healing energies, but I have always been told that Reiki is from the universal source and as such is unique, but who knows :))

As always, remember - it is the recipient who draws the Reiki through the channel.

Need of the recipient will often influence the 'experience'.

As a Reiki 3 practitioner your m-i-l still must have some 'sense' of what is going on.

Is Emma doing specific hand positions or just 'dibbling' about?

Some practice in the protection arts is wise.

Helen, I must say that I love your questions! They always get me thinking! :o)

I especially enjoy this particular question because it is so in synch with my own experiences.

Several months ago I met a friend, who happened to be a Reiki Master, on another website in the chatroom. At the time I had just recently learned about Reiki & its possible benefits. Well, I had a cold & I was feeling particularly miserable. So I said, "Can you send me Reiki because I am not feeling well?" Well, she did. I felt the effects almost immediately! My fever went down & I wasnt feeling the sneezing attacks anymore. That was when I knew that Reiki was for real & it worked.

Anyway, some time later I asked this friend to send me Reiki to help me in my spiritual growth, I had been using various techniques & meditations to open & clear my chakras. I noticed my pyschic awareness was awakening but I knew that some major blockages remained. So she sent me Healing Energies with a symbol. Well, shortly after that time I began practicing a new meditation & exercise. When I finished the exercise I virtually passed out, which was very surprising to me! Anyhow, while in this altered state, I saw a symbol & intuitively knew how to draw it! Then I received its name & usage. Talk about a wild experience! LOL!!

I also found out that I had "gained" the ability to channel healing energies & could use this symbol. That was the beginning of my journey into Reiki. :o)

So, I definitely think its possible to open up to Reiki & be able to use it. However, i did find that it took more of an effort for me to connect with the energies before I could use them. So an attunement definitely helps.

Yes as soon as Pam told me that she thinks Emma may be 'chanelling', I started trying to explain about grounding and protecting herself. She wasn't too sure on being grounded :))) Her interpretation of that expression, is not being allowed out to play when she's misbehaved :))

Wow, what an amazing experience. I have heard it said often, that intent is the key and as such that the symbols are merely tools to focus the intent.

I have heard too, that after being attuned to Master, many receive their own unique symbols.

Wow, Reiki never ceases to amaze me :)))

It might be worth giving this suggestion a try.

First, who else knows about the lady that Emma can see?

If your husband and your reiki in-laws also know about her, may I suggest that if Emma sees her lady when any of you are with her, you get Emma to ask the lady a question. ie Who is she? What does she want? Does she have something to say? And then for all of you to listen to what Emma tells you.

In my humble opinion, this is more than a vivid imagination. This is real and to children, quite normal. It is adult westerners that have a hard time coping with the reality of another dimension, (when we are actually faced with it, that is!!)

Wrapping Emma in a bubble of white light is excellent, but make a game of it (if neccessary) and get her to do it for herself, too. Then if it happens when she is on her own, she will be doubly secure, in your approval and her ability to 'do it herself'. And if Emma is seeing her guide....?:-))

I think it's only me that she has told. She said that 'the lady' walked across the living room one day, when I was upstairs with her baby sister. I told her it might have been her guardian Angel and she was quite happy about it, she certainly didn't seem to be scared. She has never mentioned it since.

I will try and teach her to imagine the white bubble of light around her, to protect herself.

Yes, intent is key & when intent is clear then the action most assuredly takes place strongly.

I will tell you that when I received the symbol I was wary about it use. I tested it once & sent it to someone, with the intent that it be used for healing in highest & best good. Well, needless to say, I sure was surprised when a different person told me that the Energies were so strong that it made them go numb! I wasnt even sending the Energies to them & it made them numb. Wow! After that I talked to my Reiki Master friend, Moongoddess, & asked if I should use the symbol. She told me that she felt it was a healing symbol & that it was a blessing for it to have been given to me. Well, if ever I "took the ball & ran with it", this was that time! LOL! I havent looked back since! :o)

To answer your 2nd question, no she has not given me a distant attunement. I have, however, received several distant attunements. They do work but there is something to be said for finding the right system & teacher. I have been attuned by 3 different people to 2 different systems. The most recent being Tera Mai Reiki. It finally feels like I have got the right one, as I seem to be back to doing what I was when I 1st got the symbol. The Energies are most definitely strong & flowing freely! :o)

Also, I would say that having a teacher in front of you is most beneficial & probably the best way to go. However, as we all know, "Sometimes, life has a way of fouling up our plans!" But it sure is fun though! :o)I would trade my experiences for anything!

Another great question as usual! Alot of the kids coming on to the planet right now are called Starseeds. These kids get it right away. We think we need to teach them but they pretty much know way more than us on many counts, we have alot to learn from these little(ancient)ones. You did the best thing that you can do and that is to tell her that she is doing great and should keep it up. Start em young! Can you imagine if someone supported you with your healing work at that age? Where you would be at this time of your life? Good job mentor! She is lucky to have you.
As for "is it Reiki?" These kids know the healing that was Reiki long before there was the "Reiki" name attached to it. Don't worry about the name, just support her own healing and teach her the stuff that you are teaching her (protection/grounding/clearing) Try not to limit her to any one thing. See what this little one has to teach you about healing! You might be surprized!

I have had both my level I and II attunements distantly , due to personal circumstances. I was lucky to find a wonderful teacher, who I already respected and trusted, who gives me ongoing support via e-mail, if I need it. I am lucky too to have my in-laws, who are also practitioners and I have been able to learn a lot from them too.

However, that said, when my children are both older, I would like to do a Reiki III, the more traditional way.

Actually it is very possible to be naturally attuned.I work as biorgonomy practitioner and it's basics are healing with complementary energy. Like every thing,or idea or whatever has it's one complmentary energy and for people is the same. Every person has it's complementary partner(person of oposite sex). And all the energy is going one to another i can't describe in english so good. Point is that if i'm attuned to reiki III my copmlementary partner is as well.
