Use of magnetics and/or far-infrared technologies

I was just wondering if any Reiki practitioners have used any magnetics and/or far-infrared technologies in their practice. Would be interested in knowing about your experiences. Thanks.

robroy,

I wear a bracelet & a necklace from a certain company (smile)containing those elements. I have been cautioned to remove them before Reiking but have never noted a difference (and I usually have magnetic soles in my shoes as well & I use a magnetic pillow at night). Because the magnets are my everyday wear I forget that I have them on. So Ive Reikied plenty of people with them on & Reiki myself usually while my head is on the magnetic pillow...I think if the magnetic waves were interefering Id have noted it by now.
A RM told me that she can not wear magnets as it intereferes with her energy. Im not sure about others as Ive never asked.
I do not wear magnets if someone has a pacemaker or any type of implanted devices such as insulin pumps.

There is an interesting article this quarter, in a journal put out by NARSAD, which is a very prestigious psychiatric journal. Most of the time they are into looking at the roles of neuraltransmitters in the course of psychiatric illnesses.

However, this quarter they had an article on the treatment of various serious mental illnesses by using a very strong magnetic field.

The results: people got better. The problem: it didn't last any longer than a few weeks.

Ever the rebel, I copied this article and gave it to a few of my colleagues--okay, so I gave it to my boss too, who thinks that I'm a fruitcake for advocating the use of Reiki within the hallowed halls of the Institute. Yet another argument for the use of energetics in medicine.

I think this is partially how Reiki works...however, Reiki is much better. It's not just magnetic Light. It's the Light of Spirit.

Allan,

Welcome to the land of fruitcakes & nuts!! We welcome you!!
It wasnt that long ago that "esteemed" psychiatric treatment involved hysterectomies for women with emotional problems. And years ago men got rid of their wives by declaring them "hysterical" & having them carted off to the asylum.....so, guess in all professions one has to deal with the fear & suspicion of what we cant see & dont know yet as "fact"......we evolve, but never quite lose our fear response.
Hang in there....

Allan,

/*\ Namaste :-}}

I suppose one benefit of reiki self-treatments is that one does not have to worry about the effects wearing off after a couple of weeks.

I suppose that the next step is to strengthen our connections to the Source so that our practices begin to have the strength of these artificially generated "fields".

Greetings Allan,

I used to use a knee brace which had four magnets in it. (that was before Reiki entered my life :-)) I found that every time I would wear it, I would feel very dizzy and get headaches.

The more I educated myself on magnets, the more I realized that magnets are made of positives and negatives. How do I know that I am getting a positive pull or a negative? So, I find myself asking people that I see wearing the magnetic bracelets for arthritus if they ever feel dizzy. Most of the time I end up with an affirmitive answer. They say they feel better if they wear one on each wrist.

So, is that all a hoax, or is it really better to wear an equal number of magnets on either side of your body? My brother-in-law swearts by magnets, and yet others (such as myself) can't seem to wear them. Any insite?

Peace and good healings

Ebony,

/*\ Namaste :-}}

My guess is that all magnets are not created equal - and do not "vibrate" exactly the same.

I also guess that depending on where a particular magnet is placed it will stimulate one Meridian or another - which could account for your headaches - or any number of other subtle or not so subtle results.

Also, when someone says they are wearing a bracelet that does not mean it is a magnetic bracelet. There are many copper and other alloy-mixed bracelets that are not magnetic at all - although the theory is that they will interact beneficially with one's fields.

Hope this helps.

Hi Ebony,

The magnetic devise within the study was one powerful sucker. I guess it was 40X's the magnetic field of the planet...

As for the magnet people who come mostly from that Company that has a pyramid scheme going. I don't know. I tried sleeping on one of those things. Felt great. It was like my body buzzed. That was pre-Reiki and I think I'm sensitive to the energies.

Personally, I get hung up on the profit motive...which is probably a hang up from a couple of past lives. I mean, geeesh, five hundred dollars for a sleeping thingey?

Allan,

Well, I agree up to a point. Before I used the magnets I was limping around, taking 1200 mg of Ibuprofen a day. After numerous expensive medical tests, I was given the option of pain pills. A friend gave me some magnetic soles to borrow & feeling desperate at this point after more than a year of discomfort,,,yadda yadda yadda..the next thing I knew my pains improved....etc, etc. Then they were gone. I wont belabor the point but as with Reiki, the proof for me is in the pudding. And all magnets are not created alike..some on the market are equivalent to refrigerator magnets...have you ever seen the commercial where the guy sticks refrigerator magnets on his head...I nearly fell off the chair laughing at that one.
Pulsed magnetic fields have been used to promote healing of nonunion bone fractures, neuromagnetic stimulation is being used in nerve conduction studies & to treat certain types of affective disorders & seizures, magnetic field application may trigger healing of slow healing soft tissue wounds, MAY suppress arthritis inflammatory response at the cell membrane, etc. However, studies are few & scattered & more research is needed. By the way, this info can be found in the report to the National Institutes of Health on Alternative Medical Systems and Practices in the United States (Alternative Medecine Expanding Medical Horizons). I obtained this thru the US Government Printing Office...hardly the rebel fringe!!! Energetic medecine is the wave of the future & Reiki is a part of it but not the only part.

Namaste everyone

Interesting discussion.

I spent some time with a 'seller' of magnetic products. The whole subject scared me, everytime they were mentioned (over two weeks - it was a lot of times) I felt like running away.

I can't explain it but to me they feel wrong.

Perhaps they do help the pain. Perhaps people can feel better. But they can't possibly get the the root of the problem so how are they every going to be able to manage without the magnets? As their bodies get used to them will they need more magnets? Will people end up looking like robots? (or a fridge)

Is this not just the same as taking painkillers permanently?

Incidentally the person I mentioned was completely against reiki :-}}} and wouldn't even discuss it even although I was bombarded with the magnetic spiel day after day!

Thank you for allowing me to rant!!!

Much love

Eleanor

Dear Eleanor,

It is always wise to avoid that which feels wrong to us.

Perhaps the subject of magnets can be seperated from the hard sell techniques that people use to peddle their wares...these really are two different issues.

What works for one does not work for others. There are many people who are afraid of energy healing but will try a magnet because "the athletes use them".

A person will confront the issue that "causes" the problem when it is time for them to do so. I see nothing wrong with relieving people of pain if that is what they seek. Chronic pain can make it difficult to focus on other issues.
And the use of magnetics has opened alot of people to alternative health options..people who were strictly opposed to it before.

I too want to run away when people force a sales pitch on me....I think weve all been there!!!

peace,love & joy,

Hi Holobon

Thank you for replying.

I'm all for people getting help to relieve pain. And anything that will help them to look at alternative methods of healing can only be a good thing.

So perhaps it was the hard sell that I objected to.

However, without going into too much detail, it was more than that. This person was saying that they would be the 'doctors of the future' because the magnets would solve everyone's problems and they wouldn't be able to live without them. I know its another issue, but this is the main reason why I 'ran' from the magnet idea.

To me its like telling people reiki will cure them. (I've heard that said too and don't agree with that either.)

Maybe I was unlucky in hearing about magnets from that particular person. But personally I would still stay away from them! :-}}}

Hugs

Eleanor

Eleanor,

I think I know what you mean. There are so many negative things being said about magnets that it makes me repel them. (and I thought magnets were supposed to suck things to it!!! GTM)

Watching my brother-in-law (he is a hockey player) over the training season, he seemed to almost depend on the magnets. He used them everyday, and at every possible chance. It was like he was addicted to them.

It really made me wonder about the power of suggestion and if he was using them simply because his trainer told him they would work.

For myself, seeing him rely on them and depend on them so much reminded me of a person relying on sleeping pills to fall asleep (as an example). I regard that as negative.
