You were on good way to understand what is coplementary energy. It will enhance your own energy when you meet your compl. mate, to max.level that even man who maditate or what ever do will never reach that level. We use a scale for masure energy field 0 to 10. Enlighten man will have max. 9 points on this scale and when you meet compl.mate both of you will have 10. And that's the idea healing with copmplementary energy.
How to explain idea of ONE?Hm,dificult because of my english and i'm not a good philosopher. So why God created Adam&Eva? Idea of ONE would be one perfect,pure… person and not two of them. Idea of ONE with Reiki would be pure energy healing without any contraindication.
I will give you example of compl.energy (not oposite): you know cho ku rei and you use it clockwise or oposite way. So this are two oposite simbols. If you use CKR clockwise with it's compl.energy you will give purer energy of this simbol.

Sit on a chair and relax:)) Imagine one sun in the center of universe and the other one in the center of Earth. Image them big white,they are source of infinite white light,love,energy,wisdom…
Pull one white ray from the sun in center of universe to you and stop this ray about 2 meters above you. When you stop this ray imagine 1000's of white spirals how they fall on you from the ray and they make a form of big cone down to your knee. Yor upper part of the body is one big cone
Do it the same with ray from the sun (Earth), stop 2 meters under you , 1000's spirals , cone (turned up side down ) up to your shoulder. Imagine that you are heksagram (like Star of David) of infinite white light.
Call your complmentary infront of you and do the same on him or her. Call him/her not to far from you that your and his heksagram can mix a litle bit. (In this cross section,where the energy is most powerfull, you transforme anything you like)
And in the end you do two very big cones one above (4 meters) which cover you and your cmplemt.mate (with heksagrams) down to the floor and one big cone from below up to the ceiling. And you get one big heksagram of infinit white light, love , ….
And in the end you say to your self: I'm merkaba of light.Merkaba protect me from all influence of environment and Everything i put in merkaba transforme with it's complementary energy.
This is your merkaba and you can do merkaba for infinite light, for reiki simbol ….

How you use merkaba, and sensing (measure) energy with your eyes will explain later if you are interested? Perhaps in new forum:))))

Can you elaborate as to how the Merkaba techniques, which presumably allow dimensional travel, differ from astral travel.

The movie Contact is about the merkaba basically. I did the merkaba meditaion for a while, it wasn't my thing, but it has worked for many people. It is a strengthening of the field and when you do it until the end you go to this New Universe and you get to roam around it and stuff. (I kidd you not.) I just don't think it was my universe, they wouldn't let me see it when I got there. Oh well there are other universes to explore....

If I understand what the new age 'dimensional warriors' :-}}are talking about, mastery of the merkaba exercises will allow All access to the various 'dimensions'.

So I am not sure what to make of your experiences.

Frankly, astral travel is, for the most part, astral travel and not everyone is able to experience all the 'planes' right away.

As far as I can tell, the 'inhabitants' of the various dimensions or astral planes do not keep others out. One must be able to enter, that is all.

These inhabitants pulled a veil over my eyes as I was looking into there world so I would not see it. You can say what you want about "all" astral planes but I was there. Maybe you are allowed to enter but that doesn't mean they allow you to see what is there if they don't want you to see it. Not all relms are created equal. Some seem to think they are more equal than others.

This does not sound to me like 'highly developed' spirituality - sounds suspiciously like human 'quibbling'.

Maybe 'someone' has pulled the 'wool' over your eyes. :-}}
