The Reiki Cafe 

My 8-YO daughter frequently has alternating visions of lights and/or lines in front of her eyes. I may be mistaken, but it does not seem to be of migrain etiology. She does not have headaches before, during, or after these occurrences.

These alternating visions do not take place during the same time period. She has various patterns, two of which I think I have a pretty clear picture of. One pattern looks something like this:

Each of these lines represents a piece of metal about 2 inches in width horizontally, and about 1/2 inch wide vertically. In between these two rows where the x-marks are, there are two pieces of metal 1/2 inch wide, and are the same length as the rows. She uses the two pieces in the middle to move the side pieces out of the way, and does this with her mind.

The other pattern is a maze, made of rubber (I think she says rubber because it has a rubbery/floating movement to it). She states it looks like electric light that is blue, like glow in the dark. In her mind she tries to go through the maze but cannot because she keeps getting blocked.

She also says when she tries to release energy through Reiki (she is Level I attuned) that she experiences the same kind of blocks.

Any thoughts, suggestions, directions would be very much appreciated.

I am glad for your voice and light.

Is your daughter able to manifest or un-manifest these light patterns as she pleases?

Or do they occur without warning?

How is the rest of her vision during these "events"

Absence of headaches does not mean there is not something physiological going on -

I do not want to be an alarmist, however, I work at a major medical center and some diagnoses :-}} actually pick up "real stuff", so to speak.

If she were my daughter, I would have her seen by a neuro-opthamologist - to rule out any possibility of something growing in the visual cortex or along the optic pathways that ought not be there. Or to be sure she is not developing an anurysm of some sort.

If all this is negative (CT Scans or MRI) and the lights continue she will have a lifetime to work with them

I agree with Firekeeper regarding having a work up. There is such a thing as an occular migraine, where an aura is seen, but no headache ensues. I have never had such specific auras, or pre-migraine patterns, so I can not speak from personal experience, but, I have had many occular migraines without the headache. Thankfully, my migraines are few and far between....
I hope all checks out well physically, for your daughter, and she contines to develop whatever ability is beginning to shine through.
