Reiki and Therapy or Reiki Vs Therapy

Hi All,
I am interested in your thoughts and opinions. I have a friend of mine who is Reiki level 2 she has been doing daily self healing for about 2 years. She is going through major life changes and is most of the time in a state of anxiety or deppression. She gives herself Reiki daily and this only relieves the anxiety for an hour or so, in addition to this I give her distant healings occasionally. She has consulted a psychologist and she tells her that she needs to do intensive group therapy work surrounding her childhood. I have two trains of thought on this and I would like some input.

#1 Surely if you are doing this much Reiki and knowing the
levels Reiki heals and the intelligence of Reiki she would not need Therapy as Reiki would eventually get to the core and release these issues.

2# That after 2 years of daily Reiki, Reiki has simply pushed these issues up and she requires this therapy to release them.

**** Don't get me wrong I know that Reiki accelerates the healing processes and complements all therapies, but I just can't believe that Reiki would not have healed these in this time.

It is my experience that when dealing with mental/emotional issues, Reiki tends to bring the issues to the surface so they can be dealt with and sometimes the best way to deal with them is to participate in formal therapy.

I have found that while the energy of Reiki can in and of itself facilitate miraculous physical healing, the mental and emotional issues require more of our participation to clear. It's not that the Reiki doesn't heal them, it's that we have to play more a participatory role in order for the healing to be complete.

One thing Reiki does promote is personal responsibility with regard to our own healing - especially mental and emotional healing.

I agree. Reiki isn't always a magic bullet. We sometimes have to take responsibility for our healing by gettting involved in fixing whatever is broken in our lives. I don't think Reiki just makes all our problems go away. It brings them to us to deal with so we will stop making these sorts of problems.

If she just continues her life as it is, and continues the Reiki, my guess is that she will continue her life as it is right now. Not totally falling apart, just keeping an even keel where she started. The Reiki helping her enough to not fall totally apart.

So, to me she needs to do something about what she has brought to the surface. Reiki did it's job wonderfully, now she needs to continue with whatever is next. If therapy is it, then it's time.

Yes. Reiki shows us the work we need to do, lets us know we are loved, but we still have to pick up our tools and do the work if we want to awaken.

(Hmmm...good advice, I should listen to it myself!)

Otoharo!

Ladyberd, I have had therapy beginning 1956. I was so good in group therapy, I chose to become a therapist. Since 63 to 91 that was my career. From 74 to 88 I also received training in Inner Peace Movement and adopted the methods of Coll, adding these to therapy. 86 to 94 I learned therapy from Lazaris. In 94, I met Xaris and began learning from her until two years ago. I began Reiki in 93 and am now a master.

With all that therapy, both personal and professional, it was Reiki that brought me out of myself into Myself. But along with reiki, I also had Xaris.

The combination of Reiki which brings everything, EVERYTHING up, the right therapy certainly helps to clarify, understand, and release. The choice has to be made to move into the new. Reiki brings you to the new, and you MUST choose.

My case is not typical. Gladly, others will not likely need what I required. Nevertheless, in general, therapy is needed. It is customary among our group that the client after Reiki session, talks. A reiki practitioner who can assist the talk session is magnificent. Phyllis Furumoto, who is the current Grand Master of Reiki Sheki Ryoho,is.

In my opinion, Reiki and therapy can go hand and hand and does not reflect unfavorably on Reiki. With all my therapy it was not UNTIL I had reiki that I was able to end it all. Therapy typically leads a person to be able to cope with their pain, Reiki heals the pain and its cause.

I would like to add to this that it is not a good idea to combine reiki and therapist in the same person for the same client. My first therapist was also my RM. This dual relationship and the fuzzy boundaries that resulted caused us to rupture horribly. This experience nearly killed me. Seven months later I am just beginning to recover and even doing reiki on myself causes me emotional pain because it reminds me of her. It will take years to heal from this, if I ever can.

Boundaries are good and have been discussed elsewhere on the board.

Ladyberd,

/*\ Namaste :-}}

- one view is that healing reflects our use of the energies -

- no healing?? (if this is in fact the case??)

- then, one might ask that perhaps the energies have not been harnessed sufficiently Mindfully to achieve the results one might intend??

- on principle, can psychotherapy be helpful?? absolutely

- individual therapy

- I am much less thrilled with group therapy especially in the beginning when perhaps sensitive early developmental issues may be at stake

- in the case you mention?? that I cannot say

>:-}}

- perhaps you might mention The Cafe to your friend??

>:-}}

- oops, is that advertising??

take care,

reiki all around,

all blessings,

Hey ladyberd,

re: I just can't believe that Reiki would not have healed these in this time.

Reiki is not a substitue for living life. If Reiki 'delt' with issue rather then ourselves it would be living our lives for us.

Think instead that Reiki may bring her to the type of therapy that will help her most.

Therapy is like meditation, it is part of a journy into the self. Reiki is not an end of the journy into the self, but the begining.

I spend 4 years in psychoanalystic therapy before Reiki, which did me very little good. After a period of 2 years (and lots of Reiki!!) wothout therapy, I found a therapist who is helping me make real changes in my life, and undrrstands my spiritual aswell as emotional needs. After Reiki i approached therapy in a completely different way.

Everyones healing path is ultimatly different.

Thats my experience.

Much love and light as always
Shanta

My thoughts on this are that Reiki alerts the person to the issues and guides to how they might be dealt with them - but they have to be willing to make the changes necessary to heal themselves. If, at some level, they are not willing to change, their pain will remain.

I agree that reiki and therapy are very good together, however the therapist should be chosen carefully. When I recieved my Reiki Masters I started having visions and dreams of childhood abuse and started releasing on a daily basis. I was very satisfied at first talking with my guides and angels about it, then sought professional counseling with a "metaphysical" psychologist that would not judge me or think I was a "wacko". Most of the information I recieved was retrieved by my native american guide that was very good at soul retrieval. Can you imagine telling the traditional dr about that! Ha...
Well, all counseling is good and I too, have taken many classes on general counseling with clients when I worked as an exercise specialist. Now as a massage therapist and RM it is really coming in handy and I always stay after the session until the client is feeling well and usually call the next day and stay in touch by e-mail. I had a woman have a panic attack after her reiki I attunement and weeks after. I e-mailed her every day and now she is doing great. I also gave her the number of my psychologist and another that is really good. Reiki saved my life and brought me back together as a whole person. I commented the other day how odd it feels to be "balanced".
Love and Light to All.

Wolf - While your experience was clearly negative, mine has been positive. I think that the right therapist, the right combination, makes the difference. While it is wise to exercise caution (and who really knows until they are in the situation), I was lucky enough to have a positive experience. My first experience with Reiki was within the framework of counselling. Thereafter, (after my counselling stopped) this same counsellor / Reiki Master attuned me. Our relationship continues to be very positive. Perhaps that I had worked through a lot of stuff prior to becoming Reiki made a difference?
Anyway, I wish you the very best. And I do agree that boundaries with anyone, regardless of the type of relationship, are very important.

Light and Love,
Janessa

As an Holistic Therapist and Reiki Master I can look at this from both sides or other angles , your friend may be blocking certain issues at any level that makes us human , although she is giving herself reiki and receiving it she has to be ready to allow the healing to take place , there may be issues that are so traumatic that at cellular level she is scared to face , reiki is a great healer but part of that healing is bringing things to the surface , a bit like peeling an onion ie a step at a time , this could take years or seconds time is not relevant the intention to heal is the key , not everyone wants to no matter what they say on a concious level
