Thank you for responding to my first ever posting. I appreciate your words of wisdom and love. I am curious about how others feel about this topic...
I was just reading about Tera Mai Reiki(sp?) which is trademarked by K. Milner. She claims to have discovered previously lost symbols and to have re-discovered a missing part of the attunement process. But from everything I can find on it, they are the same symbols I learned in the Usui Shiki Ryoho school of Reiki. My question is twofold, Did she really discover anything new at all? and Even if she did, is it ever "right" for someone to trademark any form of Reiki? Reiki is here for all of us to use and learn from. Some of us take longer to realize that and seek it out(consciously or otherwise), but I believe it should be accessable to all. Any thoughts???

Stand by for lots of replies to your question!!! Reiki is accessible to all and no matter what labels people attach to it there is only one reiki. I have to think more on how to address this one as I get too upset to answer clearly :)

What an interesting question, or set of questions, you pose!
I have actually been attuned as a Master\Teacher in the Tera Mai Reiki\Seichem system.
I had done my one and two reiki in more traditional fashion, and took a long time choosing where to go for my Teacher training.
It happened that a lovely lady who I met was a Tera Mai Master, and I was so impressed by her obvious sincerity and dedication to healing, that I followed that route and trained with her.
I can say that the system is beautiful, and has some interesting `add-ons` - but I can also say that I do know that Reiki is Reiki and is beautiful just as it is. So I guess `you pays your money, and you takes your choice` as the saying goes.
According to the literature, K. Milner trademarked to keep her lineage pure, because, according to her, if you mix different types of Reiki, you can get jumbled energies.
I don`t know that I personally believe that, but on the other hand, I am more than happy with the training I received, and with the results that the Reiki\Seichem produces for people.
As to whether she discovered anything new - she believes, as I understand it, that she was given additional information.
I guess her trademarking was done legally - whether it is ethical is another question, which people have to decide for themselves.
By trademarking it however, I don`t think she is `barring` people from learning reiki - just trying to maintain certain standards that she has set for those she taught.
What I am not so keen on, I have to admit, is that her attitude appears to be that `her Reiki` is better than other peoples. This I do not believe, as you say, Reiki is here for all of us, and there is room for all beliefs and systems, and I truly do NOT believe than any one system is better than another - just what suits each person, and still relating back to Dr. Usui.

Although I try not to get too hung up on symbols, Tera Mai symbols certainly are not "visually" the same as Usui Symbols.

Ms. Milner did not discover them - they were channelled by her via some yogi of some sort, I believe. I think Vinny has a good account of the history as we think we know it.

She "anchored" those symbols so felt it was her OK to trademark them.

Thank you for your response. I do believe the most important thing is trusting and loving your master. And the intentions , of course. Have any of the Tera Mai symbols been published , I am curious as to the differences?

K. Milner`s book called something like `Reiki and other rays of healing` has the symbols in it - have a look on her website, they may be on there, if not the correct title of the book will be.
