reiki needs a special state of mind?

Hi,
I am just curious about what happens with Reiki when we get asleep during the auto treatment. I am a second level and was told that the energy does not need the intention.
So, should I understand that the energy uses us as a wire, and flows no matter if we have the awareness?
Thanks for your insights.
Love,
Maricel

Dear Maricel,

Reiki does not need a special state of mind but a special state of heart.

Hi, Maricel!

Reiki is best with open hearth. On the other hand, we allways start treatment with some intent, even when we say 'Just hit me!'

Maricel,
some folk would say Reiki is a special state of mind....

Energy is always around us, breathing is energy, the food we eat and our emotions are energy also.

Intent is a very powerfull ideal, as firekeeper would say "mindful intent" my master says "stay WITH the person your doing reiki on" meaning dont be distracted.

But yet, I have had reiki "turn on" in a crowded place with no intent not even a thought of reiki, so maybe reiki has an intent of its own ???????? (lol)

Maricel,

/*\ Namaste :-}}

- one view is that going to sleep having set up some sort of "auto-reiki" is an Intention

- the issue might be whether one can hold that Intention while asleep??

- or is that necessary given the original Intention??

- the wider matter of whether reiki practices need Intention?? I would suggest that the heavy reliance on symbols in Reiki training might lead to the affirmative conclusion about the value of Intention (and Mindfulness)

Reiki is interesting.

On the one hand no special state of mind is needed. Once you state your original intension for Reiki to turn on, or something like that, it will turn on and stay on for the duration of the session even if you spend the session chatting with your client about the weather.

On the other hand…the more focused (meditative) you are on what you are doing and on the Reiki energy the more in tune you will be with Reiki and the “better” the session will be. Tuning into Reiki helps you merge with and understand Reiki and it helps you understand the dynamics of healing overall.

You do not need to be in a special state (focused – meditative) to do Reiki but it is preferred.

Maricel, Otoharo!

I have read the replies up to this point. I want to share my experience. When I started having clients in 1994, the Reiki channel was wide open because of some intensive spiritual training I had received. Reiki was like a magic touch. Then I entered a long seige of clearing out, until I was able to be led to find a part of me, a soul fragment, that has taken all that I had and more than I had to heal. During this long seige, staying with my client, staying focused, being Reiki were all so difficult I felt like I was wading through deep shitty mud just trying to be with my client. Nothing came automatically during this time. After months of seclusion and silence, and weekly Reiki from my partner, and consultation with our teacher, while also undergoing the year of training for level three, the energy again began to flow, I was able to be Reiki, to focus, and to see the return of vision. My vision, that is, my field of vision, includes seeing my corona. And during Reiki, particularly self Reiki, I began to see what I call the while spiral. During the times just before sessions of either classes or treatments, I would awaken to the flow of Reiki and begin to see the spiral automatically.

I do not have to guess what this is. There is a Being that assists me with everything which is a sharing of Reiki. When I need preparation and when we feel like celebrating, Reiki just flows. The Being needs this physical body through which to have impact on earth during these times.

During the night over a year ago, I awake to Reiki and knew I was being instructed and held down (as though a giant magnet had a grip on me) to stay focused during a complete hands-on Reiki treatment. I heard, "that is focus".

It is much easier for my partner to stay focused than it is for me. I must not let my attention slip.

Once during those difficult days, I asked especially for help with Reiki I was to share with a good friend of mine who had a heart condition. At the outset, while my hands were on my friends eyes, my own breath began automatic deep breathing of meditation. That breathing never lagged a second until the session was complete. She was awed saying she felt the hand of Christ on her. I knew she was right; I was as awed as she. (I am not implying that the Being was the one we call Christ.)

Dear Finality,
Gee, you are making me think of so many good things this morning!! :)
The practice of Reiki & other spiritual excercises or advancement make better use of the Reiki energy? Our spiritual journey, our clearing, etc makes us a more perfect instrument...do we cleanse our personal energy to the point that we resonate more & more, with what we call Reiki, like a singing bowl?
Those who post here about doing Reiki like healings without an attunement must have been born with the connection to Reiki or are they just more aware of the energy & their connection to it? Was it part of their sacred contract or karma to be so?
Focus & intent deepens the connection with the energy field of recipient & practitioner & perhaps, the Universe?
In group Reiki, we found it not unusual to experience the presence of Christ in a deep & personal way.
Interesting, the white spiral. At times, I see a spiral much like DNA when I am connecting with Reiki.
Finality, your post has moved me. Thank you.

Thank you, too, holobon,

About those who can heal without attunements, you yourself may have been a Reiki practitioner in a previous life. There is carry-over awareness of this. That is not true for me, but is true for my partner. The spiral I see is facing me so that I seem to be looking into it, and the white energy circles part way around, fades, then circles part way again. This may continue for an hour or so those times I am being prepared for something. I can not describe the feeling of closeness and well being I feel from it. I like the singing bowl idea! And you can remember when I had no idea how to be let alone how to be Reiki.

Holobon, hi

seems to me that, although of late the word Reiki appears to have achieved generic status - being used to refer to almost any form of healing - just because someone is doing healing, doesent mean it is 'Reiki', per se
- there are many people who heal using other spiritual 'energy-consciousnesses' - and many who heal using their own vital energies (and many who are actually using their own vital energies, yet believe they are doing Reiki...)

be
Good Morning.

Does the name matter. We seem to be a society that has to label everything. Everyone has a disorder/and or disease and we (as a society) have to have a label on it.

My earliest memory of healing energy was 7. So when I found REIKI I had a name for it. I didn't need to have a name/labels/ rituals/symbols or ceremonies. None of us do. It is part of us and anyone can do it.

The "Mindful Intent" phrase that we all use seems to be the key if you will. When we walk our spiritual soul path and intend to help ourselves and others it would be almost impossible not to "run" into REIKI. Universal energy force.....can we say or do we want to say that another is not doing REIKI just because they are not ATTUNED. I think this falls into the Judge not category. I am just glad that they have found it on their spiritual path and they can call it whatever they want.

Have a wonderful day.
Love and light

Dear James,
I was not aware that the term Reiki was being applied generically to multiple forms of healing...have not run across that.
Reiki as a system of healing started by Usui utilizes a healing energy. I do not have the ability to evaluate if this energy is the same or very similiar to energy other non Reiki folk experience. Obviously Reiki is Reiki. Golf is not soccer. But who am I to say that the energy utilized during Reiki healing is not the same? What I was hinting at is that, perhaps, Reiki energy is natural to us as human beings. Over the centuries we have moved away from the psychic & supernatural & toward logic & science. Perhaps when we turned away from traditions of healing, we lost a natural connection. Some may be able to tune into Reiki without an attunement? Im not taking a stand either way....these are just thoughts & questions.

Hi Holobon,
some good points you've raised.
I've always seen reiki as a 'system' of healing albiet these days it has taken on many forms, takata lineage, japanese lineage and so on. So that system has many variations. The common theme though is it originates From Mikao Usui Sensei and has some form of attunement concept.
all energywork naturally uses some kind of energy or ki/chi. That however does not make all energy work reiki.

Even though the word reiki may translate roughly to Universal Life Energy the connotation of the word encompasses alot more. It also encompasses the 'system'.

Can we tune to energy without having learnt the system of reiki, yes. Can we attune ourselves into the system of reiki without an qualified teacher, no. This I base on seeing reiki as a system that utilises energy in a certain way.

If I'm practising say pranic healing which I also use I don't say I'm practising reiki. And if I'm practising reiki I likewise don't say I'm practising pranic healing. Both use ki or energy but they are very different 'systems' of utilising it.

a few more thoughts ;)

Dear Lion Path,
No arguement from me.
Agreed that when we say Reiki, we mean the basic system of attunement & use of Reiki as has been passed down from Usui.
Soccer is not football. :)
Maybe Im just stubborn...but I have not been exposed to a verifiable data driven explanation yet on the source, origin, etc of all the energies we utilize in different healing techniques. How different are they? How similiar? We all have our opinions & beliefs & faith & experiences. Im open to more perspectives than my own but there is so much out there as far as energy work. An experience that is individual & personal is open to interpretation of cause & effect. Spiritual experiences are difficult to quantify & evaluate. Im saying that I do not discount the possibility that Reiki energy, not the system that Usui developed, is inherent or natural to human beings. Wheew...alot of work to get that out!! HeHeHe.
I go into detail only because it is so easy to leave myself open to misinterpreatation when I post. Actually, I do listen to all points of view, but am guilty of being fixated from time to time. :)

Hello,
Reiki has an inate intelligence of it's own. If you start out with a certain intent and fall asleep, the Reiki will do whatever is needed. I always tell my students not to have expectations, that only leads to disapointment and doubts. Reiki will always do what needs to be done whether you asked for it or not. It will never do harm. It's universal love and kindness. Falling asleep during treatments is very common. When i first got my 1st degree everytime i treated my self within 5 minutes i was out like a light! The more i treated the less it happened. You will find the bodys reaction changes as you adjust to the new energy level. I just allow the reiki to do its thing!
hope this helps

Hi Maricel

The LESS we have a 'state of mind' ( Ego, Will power, Forced immmaginations) the more the healing will flow. Reiki flows from Spirit. Let the Spirit Helpers and Guides 'DO THEIR good work' All you need is love and intent as the starting point.

I agree to that. Energy will always flow through us. Careless use of energy could lead to disaster and discomfort to others who are affected by it.

Can look up books like "The Secret of Shambhala" by James Redfield and read on people like Dalai Lama to see how wishing for something the wrong way can actually chase people away.

take care and may the Light shine brightly... on us
