Everyone has some psychic abilities. That is usually on an unconscious basis. Knowing who is calling when the telephone rings, where to get a parking space, etc. This is all easy stuff.
Reiki does clear out some of the 'curtains' that hide other things as well. By doing that you start noticing when you are right ahead of time. That can be pretty often as time goes on.
On the whole, the more often you ask questions, the more you get answers.
I don't think you actually need the ring to get answers about traumas, etc. You can just ask the question, tho the ring does carry some energy from that person, and it does give you a focus point, so you don't seem 'strange' to anyone watching (like that really helps!) you can get the answer without a tool. What the person was telling you about is psychometry, reading energy from objects.
The thing about psychic abilities is to not be afraid of them, to tell God/dess 'thank you' whenever you get an answer, any answer, and clear out your own issues as much as you can. The less muck the answers have to go thru, to get to you on the conscious level the more you are right.
