HAs anyone volunteered to do reiki in the hospital???. Our local hospital has a reiki volunteer program and I wondered if anyone has had experience there and with what kind of patients. Just curious thinking about volunteering.

Hi' I'm a practical nurse looking to practice reiki in a hospital setting. Usually oncology units and clinics where people are getting chemotherapy, some nursing homes allow practitioners to come in their facilities but you must have practitioner insurance, I have my coverage through the ABMP. Hope to have helped

Hello!

There are quite a few hospitals in Northern Connecticut (Yale New Haven is one of them) that have a Reiki Volunteer Program. It is an 1 1/2 hours from me, so I attempted to contact local hospitals in my area that say they are not quite ready for such a prgram. Here is a link to HealthCare Board at Libby Barnett's site where you can exchange ideas on getting Reiki into hospitals:

Hope this helps!

I shared Reiki with several different individuals who asked me but I have not gone on a regular basis. A friend of mine went regularly for about a year, but did not share Reiki with indiviuals but sat somewhere for about an hour being Reiki. Sometimes she sat in the floor where patients with mental diagnosis were. Presently they closed that floor as all the patients went home.

Another friend who is a master, said when he walked down the hall, his hands became Reiki. He held this energy for as long as he was there. He felt most of the time that it was the staff who were drawing the energy rather than patients. No one knew what he did, as he ostensibly had other business there.

Occassionally, I have had reason to be in a nursing home or an out-patient mental health center, and noticed the same result. In Usui Shiki Ryoho, this is called "Holding the Energy", a function of being master.

namaste,
i have had this happen since even before i became master level, but it is noticeably stronger now.
whenever i stop by the local cat-adoption place the reiki comes on immediately. all those cats in those small cages begin to draw the energy before i even approach them.

i would imagine the effect would be magnified a great deal in a hospital, stressed & over-worked staff, families and relatives upset, not to mention the patients themselves.

Well, thank you for your responses they are interesting. I just wondered if anyone had the reiki volunteer experience in the hospital. I know that even when I attend mass i sometimes have to leave because the reiki energy is just flowing and I am too warm to stay there.when you are in situations where there is a crowd or alot of people and they need this healing how do we protect ourselves. Sometimes I am wiped out after being in these environments.

My wife's father passed on Wednesday at our local(ish) Oncology ward. Everytime both myself or my wife went to visit him, we were aware of energy almost 'boiling' off us as soon as we walked through the doors until the time we left. It was often remarked upon how hot our hands were.

I've worked on the volunteer program and found that once patients get over any initial reservations you tend to get fully booked very quickly. Its very popular with oncology patients and very satisfying for the volunteer. Well worth the experience.

Boundaries are tricky things. I've known a few people to struggle with this, just having energy drained from them by all the souls in need around them. 3 quick thoughts:

Grounding -- find a technique that works for you and do it daily. Walking, standing meditation, martial arts, being in Nature, etc. When you stand, feel the Earth link to you and support you.

Free will -- keep thinking to yourself, all those who seem to be drawing energy, need to have given you conscious permission to give them Reiki. Lots of lively discussion over this one, but I'm with the permission-required opinion.

Microcosmic Orbit -- when starting to feel drained, let your tongue rest against the roof of your mouth, behind the teeth. This will help the energy recirculate within your physical body. Taoist yoga technique, lots of info available.

I'm sure there are other ideas that can help, too.

Blessings,
Aronaya

eirelassey, you likely have water energy your first or seond lineup. YOur experience is common to these people. My partner has taken it upon herself to attend church for the purpose of providing Reiki during the worship part of the service, not the sermon part. She goes down front, sits comfortably, begins Reiki. Her hands are on herself somewhere. As she sees energy she is guided by what she sees. No one in that church knows her personally. Those that sit around her make a point of greeting her warmly and affectionately each week. She can tell by the responses of the group and seeing the energy how Reiki is progressing. (She has never attneded services before, preferring to climb mountains)

I have attended a number of times but I can not be detached, as I have a lifetime experience in different types of churches. I am overwhelmed by this group's belief which seems to be based on the premise that unless everyone does the same thing at the same time, no one will receive God's blessing. I hear them asking in a begging manner and it is too sad for me. I can not stand it.

I intend to begin a singing group in my home with words that express my perspective on spirit and truth. This will be held in Reiki energy throughout. Until then, I stay in my garden.

Anywhere and anytime that Reiki flows as you describe, know that the sensation of heat is caused by resistence to the energy (like an electric stove.) Allow yourself to accept the role of conduit, keep your hands on you anywhere, (especially over the solar plexus) ask that you do not feel the heat that comes from the other people. See how that works for you. You are very important to this group. As soon as you can, self treat yourself. Smudging is good also during this time. Know that you are not alone in your responses. You may have this from people anywhere at anytime as anxiety rises.
