I completed Reiki I on 8 June but did not keep up with the 21 days' 1 hour treatment that my teacher had advised us to do for the next 21 days.
I am one of those who went through the 2 days of Reiki I course wondering if it works on me and not feeling much. But right afterwards, on Day 3 & 4 (which i religiously did the 1 hour treatments and reiki-ed enthusiastically on plants and my 4-legged master) the response and tingling and pulsations were quite undeniably strong. I was so inspired.... And then time fell short and I ended up lagging on keeping up with self-reiki for the 21 days cleansing.
I want to know is if ...this means the sensations i feel during reiki will dull (since I have stopped doing reiki on daily basis)or stop altogether... and if it has any drastic effects for not completing my 21 days cleansing.
Or is it 21 days is meant to help to 'seal' my energy connection pathways , er...smooth traffic? And since I didn't complete, it will mean my future connection with reiki energy will be hampered or not as strong?
Please advise. Thank you!
Btw, I'm so glad i went for Reiki I (even though it was expensive) and am going for Reiki II in Aug!

Otoharo!
Welcome to this board. In traditional Usui Reiki there is no such thing as this 21 day period. Relax, you can not lose Reiki. It is always there for you. The more you practice the more you feel it because the more you open up your channel.

I'm with you on this one finality. 21days is yet another 'bolt on extra ' to traditional Reiki by someone trying to complicate a simple process.

Just how many bolts have been added that us newbies don't know about? Are we being reiki spammed? Which in the end if we eventually teach gets passed on and probably added on to.
Milk:
If you want to try a 3-day heavenly high, just give someone else that 1 hour reiki. They may feel really good, but you come away feeling just as good. I practice just about everyday on myself and on someone else too. I've done this since last October. Practice, practice, practice. And I do, every chance I get to share with someone else.
Not to be a party poop (or hurt anyone's feelings), but if you are going for level 2 next month you might want to do a lot of reiki this month. There's lots more to learn in 2 and knowing level 1, even the hand positions, with confidence will help. I don't know about your master but mine makes sure we all know how to do a full reiki session (front and back) on someone just about every time I step in that classroom. Then she can pile some more good stuff on us. I love the extra work.
Most of the time I just do chair reiki (15 minutes or so) with people because of their time problems (at work). So I had to work out all the kinks of a full session on my husband on the family room floor. (husband found dazed and confused on floor of family room after repeated attacks of reiki by crazed wife) Someday my husband will forgive me. I have decided to find a massage table. Much easier for my poor old body.
Time is short in a class, so my teacher expects you to do your homework and if you don't she picks up on that too. So.....if you are going to spend the money for a class and are serious about it.....and do not want to waste anyone's time rehashing classes, do the homework. Don't mean to sound mean, but I know what it's like to sit in a class while all the reteaching goes on. Not that refreshing high points isn't good, just not the whole class.
But go with a heart full of love and open to new things. At least practice a little, please.
Birdy
P. S. Anyone have a nice portable massage table they would like to sell?

There is no such thing as “you must do 21 days of self healing” in reiki. That does not mean that it is not good. It just means that your teacher or your teachers teacher made it up. Your connection to Reiki is not dependent on anything but getting the attunement, which you already got. The attunement does not have be “sealed” by your doing anything. Reiki will be with you for the rest of your life. Your personal feeling of the Reiki will get stronger and weaker at times for many reasons but Reiki will always be there just the same independent of your feeling of it.
If your current teacher is too expensive talk to your teacher about the money or find a new teacher unless you love this teacher and want to stay with them no matter what. Reiki is Reiki and you will get the same thing no matter what you pay for it. You many feel it is worth the extra money for this teacher because this teacher is special. Again, Reiki is Reiki and you get the same thing no matter what you pay. You can even search the web and find masters who do attunements for FREE. If you need to learn about reiki this may not be very good for you. A real live teacher will teach you things that will not learn over the web. Your choice.

In addition to the excellent advice posted so far, I would like to add - don't worry if the way you experience the energy changes as your body adjusts to the new flow of energy. When I was first attuned, I would get really hot hands and they would turn red like they'd been scalded. This gradually decreased until just before my Reiki 2 attunement three months after Reiki 1. Now, other people still feel plenty of heat, but I seldom feel heat just an odd pulsing sensation as the energy cycles.
Take it all in stride - the changes in how you perceive the energy, the odd times when Reiki will suddenly just start to flow, and don't be alarmed if animals and small children seem drawn to you.

Hi, namaste ...
I think the more you can use your Reiki 1 before you take your Reiki 11 next month, the better. Get used to the energy, and listen to your hands, listen to the feedback.
Having said that, although I always advise that students do as much self-reiki as they can, in today`s busy world, it just doesn`t always happen on a daily basis, and five minutes is better than none!
Waiting in a queue, listening to the radio, whatever, think Reiki, and use it!
Re. the 21 days, I think there is often a `clearing` after a Reiki 1 attunement, relating to the chakras, each of the major seven clearing three times in rotation during the 21 days. Daily reiki helps the clearing. Just my view, what I was taught, and what I experienced.
But certainly NOT doing a full Reiki treatment every day for 21 days is going to make NO difference to your ability to channel Reiki, dont worry, just enjoy.
Good luck and happiness for Reiki 11

Milk,
/*\ Namaste :-}}
- welcome to The Cafe and the circle of reiki 1
- I am glad for your voice and light
- one view suggests that the 21 day thing is rather more symbolic (re: Usui Sensei's supposed 21 days meditating) than anything etched in rice paper
- some have little or no post attunment hangover -
- some have it for months
- a bit of reiki every day is nice, afterall - but not required
- so, not to worry
- do the reiki as it feels right and all will be well

Hi,
I myself never did the 1 hour a day reiki self-treatment after any of my attunments. I don't use reiki that often on others but I use it on myself quite a bit and the only thing I find is that my hands are hotter in some areas than others (which is normal).

hiya birdie,
i got my massage table 2nd hand from a friend of mine who does shaitsu and upgraded to a nicer table. check around your area, there might be some massage therapists who are looking to trade in their tables for a newer model and would be more than happy to sell you their old one.

Greetings Reiki Lovers,
There have been some interesting comments made on this tread.
Sometimes life is so busy it is hard to find time to do the 1 hour self treatment. My first Reiki teacher told me to do the self treatment when I get into bed at night. Get comfortable, and then start the treatment. After awhile where the hands are placed will be intuitively assessed. Even if you fall asleep, Reiki Goes where it NEEDS to go. Remember that the practitioner has no attachment to the outcome. Many times I fall asleep and wake up hours later still doing Reiki.
I have had some amazing clearings take place.
Part of the reason teachers want us to do the self treatments is to learn how the energy flows for us. And to learn the hand placements. I have found that I don't do all the hand placements for myself. I change them nightly.
The Reiki Cleanse is on multi-levels. YOu will cleanse where you need to cleanse. It may be subtly or noticed. Trust the Reiki.
If you need to find a different teacher, find one. You will know the connection when you make it.
Enjoy your Reiki.
Love & Light
Mary
