Blessings. I will first say that my my Reiki Master is a wonderful person who I beleive has excellent intentions when doing and teaching Reiki. I am realizing though that her method of teaching is a bit unorthodox. She did the level one attunment for me on one evening over about a three hour period. She did four attunments, let me try out Reiki on myself, answered my questions, and gave me some information on Reiki. She organizes a group to do Reiki on each other once a month and is very availible to talk. She asked me to wait at least 21 days before doing the level two attunment, which it sounds like is conducted in much the same way. I know I felt something during the attunment and have experienced many changes since. Thank you for your time. Blessings.

Blessings to you Isis1,
Let me first say that all attunements work as long as the intent of the Reiki teacher is focused in the attunement.
It appears that your Reiki teacher performed the traditional Reiki attunement from Usui, if my memory serves me well. Also, regarding the 21 days before the level II attunement, your Reiki teacher is incorporating a cleansing period between attunements. This is representative of the 21 days that Usui meditated on Mount Kurama where he received his attunement from Source.
Some Reiki teachers perform the lengthy attunements in their classes but most have adopted a more streamlined version of the attunement process. As for the 21 day cleansing process, It's up to the individual Reiki teacher.
I hope this helps.
Amen to you always,
Archangel

Hi Isis,
Your teacher handled the attunments exactly the way I do in my classes. As Archangel David pointed out, this is the traditional method taught by Hayawa Takata, who learned directly under one of the Masters trained by Usui himself.
It does bother me that this explanation was not given to you automatically by your Master...and that you are asking some other questions that should have been covered. A lot of this is basic information that should be given in Reiki Level I.

Hello Roxy,
Nice to hear from you again.
In Isis's situation, my guess is her Reiki teacher felt that she didn't need to know the attunement information until after the 21-day cleansing period and the level II attunement. I've seen this happen once in awhile.
Blessings to you,
Archangel

Hi Archangel David,
That was not the only question that I had concerns about. I also felt it should be told, that, yes, Reiki can be used in a spot to relieve a pain or help heal a wound...without doing a full session. When I attune students, I also tell them everything I can about the attunement, the history of the four attunement system. Perhaps you're right though, maybe I teach things that I feel the student should know, but other teachers see as unimportant.
BTW, best wishes for organizing a Reiki Circle in Los Angeles. I'm getting really excited about my NYC circle..although I admit it's been a little easier for me. There are quite a few New Yorkers at the Cafe, and I know whom they are!

I reocmmend that you wait a year, maybe two before getting the second level. It is so much more helpful to get the body cleared out well, before starting on the emotional stuff. That is my experience. Be Reiki with as many people as possible. Be reiki with yourself all during the day. Keep a hand on yourself somewhere. Find out all you can about Reiki I. In fact, one could go their whole lifelong with Reiki I and have tremendous power for healing. Ask all the questions that come up for you. Ask them of the Holy. Anytime of the day or night and you will begin getting your answers.

Blessings. Thank you for your time and reassurance that my attunment was not done wrong. In defense of my Reiki Master I will say that my crazy traveling schedual has made it difficult for her to get what might be the ideal amount of informatin to me. I am starting to realize that often theanswer to all of my questions is basicly the same, it is the intent that mattters most. Blessings.

Isis,
The way I do my attunements is split over two days. Two each day. It was my understanding that Takata would teach it over 4 days. Giving each attunement a period of time to adjust. Most people do not have the time to take 4 days to do this. Doing it in one day is ok. I dont prefer that method but it's not incorrect. I do make my students use reiki for 3 months before moving them to second degree. I can tell you from my own experience as to why that is a benefit. I had my first and second in one weekend. I as a teacher now cannot tell my students what it is like just to do 1st. To just be able to place the hands and feel the energy without doing second. This also depending on the master and the students energy system. It can be an overload to do both in one weekend. It doesnt allow the body to adjust to the new energy. To me 2nd degree was a MAJOR jump. It took me 3 or 4 years apprenticing with my master before I was given masters. Im thankful for that because it gave me time to dig deep inside and ask myself why do I want masters and work on myself with many issues. Mastership is a big responsibility. ooops im blubbering.
It depends also on how many students are in the class. If its one or two. You have more time to do attunements in one day. When you have 6-10 students it would be very difficult, and I wouldnt do it in one day.
Hope this helps
Namaste
Mark

Thank you for the information on attunments. I am realizing that there are many effective ways to attune somebody. One thing I am curies about is if part of the reason for splitting the class up is that it is hard on the person giving the attunments to do many in one day. Just a thought, and one which may be totally off. Thank you for your time. Blessings.
