Equine treatments

Hiya,

I'm interested in learning more about treating animals, horses in particular, with Reiki.

Things like hand positions for various conditions, seeking permission from the horse, and where are the chakras on the horse?

Any info would be appreciated. I'm level 2 Reiki and also have my British Horse Society Stage 2 care and knowledge.

Bright Blessings,
Evie

My understanding is that animals have 3 chakras, locations of those I am not certain, perhaps around the back of their head, heart, tailbone (I know for cats they love Reiki near their tail).

My partner at the time and I accidentally hit a deer one day (horrible, horrible), and it ran into the side bushes after being hit. Once we were pulled over at the side of the road, the first thing that came to mind was to do Distant Healing, to help ease it's pain. As much as I was in shock at the time, and felt guilty about us having hit it (I had been whining that weekend of not seeing any deer at the campground....), I knew that it could feel the peaceful loving energy of Reiki, and that I was doing the best thing I could to help it through it's transition.

I know this really didnt' answer your questions, however, as an animal lover myself, wanted to share with you.

In terms of asking for their permission, animals have their own way of communicating with us - for horses especially, through eye contact and touching of the head and neck. I would suggest to communicate with it as you normally do, take a moment to sense its response, and try Reiki on it. I'm sure it will let you know if it is uncomfortable or not. In any case, with good intentions, and eye/touch communication, you can't go wrong.

I have seen the meridian charts for horses and dogs -- you can do a search on 'animal accupressure' or e-mail me for the site. Classes, books and charts are offered, but I haven't seen specific reference to Reiki or chakras. Enjoy the work.

Hi Evie
Look at Kathleen Milners books. She is a great lover of horses and writes about them and reiki quite a bit.

Namaste Evie,

I know I shouldn't send links, but email wasn't possible, so: you might want to try out this place:
As I understand it, they deal with all kinds of animals.

Evie,

I used to have a list of sites with info about Reiki and horses but have lost it somewhere.

The BHS has some good books on the subject and a search at Amazon will bring up some others. Also try a search on Reiki and horses at Google that will give you an overwhelming number of sites and message boards.

Good luck.

Rebecca

Otoharo!

Evie, I learned from an old hand at Reiki this week end, that you need to stay clear of any large animal for they are apt to fall over as soon as Reiki flows. They relax so much they simply lie down and if you are in the way you will have a horse on top of you. Also, place a wet blanket on the animal. The water in this conducts the energy over the whole body.

Hi Evie,

namaste .... :>}

I learned Reiki in the first place partly to treat horses, I at that time had a couple of my own and used other therapies on them.
I found they loved Reiki, and went on to treat other people`s horses, who saw the results the Reiki was producing.
After a horse becomes used to the Reiki energy, they tend to present the bit they want treated. They sigh, lower their necks, mouth and generally relax incredibly well while receiving a treatment. I use intuitive placement of hands, but start at the head and work towards the tail.
Enjoy .....

philanty

Thank you all for your input.
I'll check out the recommended sites and searches asap. I'm hoping to ask permission at the local riding school to practice on some of their quieter ponies to see how it goes.

Bright Blessings,
Evie

Hi evie

I dont really have any knowledge of horses but about a year ago i was asked by a friend if i thought Reiki could help a his girlfriends horse, it was suffering with a leg problem and hadn't been ridden for 3 weeks.I agreed to give reiki a try and really just applied reiki to the areas of the back where i thought the chakras would be (based on the human body)concentrating quite heavily on the tail bone area and also working locally on the swollen area low down on the leg, as i was working a small group of stable girls gathered and couldnt believe how quiet and calm the horse was as it had a reputation for being very fidgety and unfriendly, well after only 2 sessions the swelling had almost gone and she was back riding the horse. one woman actually commented that the day after the healing session the horse ran out in the paddock like a 2 yearold and it made the hairs on the back of her neck stand up to see such a sudden change in both the physical and mental state of the horse.
So until you learn more about the finer points of treating horses maybe just follow your intuition, remembering that reiki will find its own way to the areas that need it most.

hope this helps
good luck

I had two friends who were very involved in giving Reiki to animals, and treated a lot of horses. After spending sessions giving hands on, which took a long time for the obvious reason that horses are really big, they switched to doing distance healings, tagteam style. They used a very large horse stuffed animal as a proxy.
They had good results with the treatments. When I asked them about shrinking a large body into a small proxy, they said that although they gained coverage, they lost in accuracy. ie, if there is a one to one ratio of hand positions, you can say with certainty that whatever's under your hand, say the left lobe of the liver, is what's causing problems. If your hand is covereing the entire stomach because it's in a smaller proxy, well then you can't know for certain. So diagnostic power is diminished.
But nothing's free, and they said the horses received the energy just fine.
As for seeking permission from a horse, well of course do that, but you know I think we make too big a deal about that. First of all, the physical world is about maximising pleasure (in all its forms) and Reiki is pure pleasure, and I've never met an animal that didn't like pleasure. Second, true, pure Reiki does not cause harm, so even if you give Reiki and the animal doesn't want it, it just bounces back to you. And you would feel that and probably stop. I don't like the idea of people tiptoeing around animals because they're afraid they might offend them or somthing! lol Animals don't have egos! If they don't like something they'll let you know with teeth and fangs. I know, I've worked at Vet hospitals. lol
Anywho, have fun. Horses are way cool and are very deserving of love, warm hands, and Reiki.
Cheers,
Colin
