Reiki for migraines

Please forgive me if this has been answered at some other time:
Yesterday I gave reiki to the teacher I work with for a migraine that came on during the day. I only spent about 15 min. (all the time we had) with my hands on three postions on head: third eye, sides and back of head for crown. I also used the still point.

She felt great when I was done but I was wondering if there is more I can do for her. I would ask this of my RM but she has been out of town at shamanic workshops and working.

Thank you for your input. Love and light to all this beautiful night!

Hi Tracey,

Good Job! I read about the still point and I even tried it on my husband, but I don't think I was doing it right. It sounds like a very valuable thing to know.

Migraines can come from a great many sources. It's really hard to pinpoint all of them successfully. Take it from a person who had migraines 5 out of 7 days for almost 10 years. It isn't pleasant. Good luck on your search.

Dear Tracey,

Sometimes a migraine can be a signal that there are imbalances in the body in other places. If you are good at sensing other areas of the body that need energy, I would not hesitate to do those places as well.
For instance, I've known women who have had migraines because of a hormonal upset due to normal cycles or menopause.

Blessings,
Roxy

Otoharo!

Tracey, you had more success than I had with my sister. You must trust your own success.

Namaste Birdie,
I have had good luck with the still point. My RM had me do alot of hands on with it, on her, to make sure I got it right. When I use it (and I don't always) I feel a rush of energy coming from the root chakra right up to my fingers. I have also seen bright red and orange rushing at me with the energy. This particular time there was just a great release and I could feel her relax as I picked up the source of her stress. A new believer!

Keep practicing :) you'll love it when you get it just right!

Hugs to you Birdie, I get such a happy feeling from your posts.

Tracey,

Namaste...

I was also once a migraine sufferer. But watching the caffine and acidic foods, like tomatoes and oranges (and I understand peanuts, too, though not in my case) and getting regular reiki treatments has kept me off prescription med's for over 3 years now.

I remember when I first started getting reiki and a migraine came on, I sat on the floor and worked on the aura of the head, it was quite a rush... and relief. :-)

Hope this helps...

Many blessings to your day!

In Light and Love,

Mammabear

i have never been able to get rid of my own migraines with reiki (they are quite stubborn) but i have had some luck in treating others. if she is prone to migraine on a regular basis, perhaps setting up some pre-migraine reiki treatments. chronic migraine sufferers can usually tell when one is about to hit. this may help prevent them from occuring.

Hi, I was just reading in the Usui Treatment Guide, for hte head area it says to treat General head area, Forehead {at Neck line}. temples. back of the head, throate {or back of neck} crown, Stomach and Intestines. I have also used oils a combination of peppermint, eucalyptus, cajeput, rosmeary, lavender and vetiver. Rub around hairline all the way around to back of head and on neck and shoulders and a drop or 2 on the crown area. I just visited Canada and found this combination at a store there. It is called Peppermint Halo and the brand name is Saje. It is a blend just for headaches and migraines. Keep out and away from eyes, smell it to and it will clear head.
Hope this helps. By the way, what do you mean by still points. I am still learning to.

Hi Sherry,

I have to comment on this pain blend and am assuming these might be essential oils. There are warnings on these oils that have not been mentioned.

Eucalyptus (globulus) avoid with high blood pressure and if one has epilepsy, avoid using with infants around it can hurt their breathing.

Rosemary, avoid with epilepsy, avoid with high pressure, avoid with pregnancy.

Cajeput, avoid with pregnancy

Peppermint, avoid with high blood pressure, avoid with pregnancy and can irritate the skin.

Lavender is safe and also good for pain on its own.

*Some of the new thinking is that migraines are a seizure disorder so I would ask everyone to be aware and mindful of these warnings.

I diffuse my oils but still adapt them to others in the same enviroment with me; being I am a person who gets migraines and have a niece here who is pregnant.

I just wanted everyone to be aware if these are true EO's to heed the warnings. Perhaps they are just fragrance oils and then might not have any warnings on the bottled blend. In that case I would think they would not produce the pain reduction benefits.
Check your label Sherry.

Please do that Tracy, it is such a neat concept, thing, action. I don't know what to call it. I fell over it in Diane Steins book, but it's hard to learn from a book.

Hello everyone, I, too, was a long time migraine sufferer. I got rid of them after more than 20 years with Bach Flowers Remedies. Then when I came across Reiki the migraines went completely away as long as I did a daily treatment. I used to do the head positions every morning before getting up and then the body positions later on when I was resting. I am not doing the treatment so regularly now and if I do get a migraine I just cannot do the head positions as it enhance the pain and becomes unbearable. So a regular preventive treatment seems the best solution.

My heart goes to all of you who are suffering from this terrible disease.

i have used peppermint oil on my own migraines. occasionally it will slightly help relieve the pressure, but once it made me so nauseus i threw up. i have found that smells are not always helpful with migraines. i often develop hyper-sensitivity to scents when i have migraine and even those that i really love (such as lavender) can be painful.
but then, everyone is different and each migraine different from the next.
i would ask the person being treated if they are feeling sensitivity to scents before putting any oil on them.
