Ok, Since I have not had any luck with having takers on a Reiki treatments, at least to the ones I ask. I have been thinking of putting an add in our paper. I live in a real small town about 2400 people, where everyone knows everyone, and there business. I have been reluctant to put an ad in the paper because of that. I am sure that people will think that I am wierd, which I don't care, well I guess I do to. Anyway, I have been trying to figure out what I should put in the paper. Reiki treatments, Reiki relaxation treatments, etc. And do any of you have any kind of insurance to protect yourself. Has anybody ever had anyone come and say that they did evil things to them or say that they have been really emotional since the treatment and think you did something to them? I want to do treatments for people to help them and to also help myself along the way. Pratice practice practice. I feel I know how to do treatments, and with out practice how can I ever get really good with my intuition and so forth. Any suggestions will be appriciated.Blessing to all

Otoharo!
Sherry, I lived in a small town a couple of years ago. My ads caused a great deal of talk among themselves. I had one person who came and brought her neice with her in case she needed a driver to get home afterwards! This was the woman who could not drink water. I made up some flyers and left them around in nearly all the stores in town, expecially the beauty shop and grocery store where I traded. The bank wanted to but could not. I put a larger flyer on the bulletin board outside on the sidewalk which is a popular spot. I got feedback but no takers. One friend of mine (the firechief) explained to me that these people look at a new gate a long time (years) before daring to walk through it. However, my announcement about weekly reiki shares brought a young mother and her two little ones. She brought another grandmother and her granddaughter. That lasted as long as I lived there. I taught two classes eventually.
I am glad to be back in Longview with a population of 30,000. This is a lumberjack and lumber mill town. Even so, people will respond to ads. I was fortunate to have had a feature written about reiki with a picture of me being reiki with a pillow (in lieu of a person). There was a years worth of response from that one item.
You never know until you try. Personal contact works more than anything in the smallest towns. The percentage of response remains about 2% of the population in most spiritual type events. I stressed pain relief, headache relief, stress reduction, and depression. This simplification helped a lot. These are issues a person can deal with that do not feel too risky to try out.
Is there a doctor who will send some to you? They usually have a lot of patients they have nothing to help them with and would be glad to shuffle them off to you. It is better than not seeing them at all from their view. I had several of these. One of the churches might welcome you to be available a cerntain afternoon for free sample reiki. I never have bothered about insurance. A master recommended that I ask about certain physical conditions like do they have a pacer, etc. I never think to ask. I found out that many people can not lie on their belly comfortably, (their necks are too stiff, or they need a pillow to protect the bosom.) These little things sometimes makes or breaks a session. They expect you to read their minds. So you have to pay attention. I ask them to dress in loose cotton if they can, then they are confortable and don't have to dress up. Have a light blanket they can be covered with. It is amazing how vulnerable new ones feel.

Hi Sherry,
No one has ever said I did evil things to them in the reiki session. Emotional or not. :-) Not even the people who were not paying attention after, and got speeding tickets on the way home! (yes, I encourage them to sit for awhile, and drink a full glass of water, sit on the front porch with me in good weather for a while...still it happens sometimes.)
Not even the person who had a tree fall on her house and destroy her bedroom...That afternoon she had released a tremendous amount of guilt from the past due to sexual issues. That was interesting.
Probably get more business from the church idea than the newspaper, and cheaper for you as well.

Sherry,
Where in Indiana do you live?
I lived in New Albany for a few years with my wife. She was raised there!
I would look in the paper for other people advertising similar things.
You might consider finding a place where you can offer a free demonstration...perhaps through a library of civic center for example. Talk to the hospital and seeif any nurses are aware of Reiki....
let us know again and again
love.

Thank you all for your information. It was very informative. I have mentioned Reiki to my doctor, which is the only one in town and he had never heard of it. So I doubt that he would send anyone my way. I think I will start out slow with just a small ad in the paper. Then maybe go to flyers, and then to the churchs. I have never attended a Reiki share so I wouldn't even know how to do that. And I am not good in front of crowds. At least until I am a little more comfortable myself with a little more experience. I fill I need to charge for a session because when I tell people that I am free so I can get some experience and I tell them it is good for me to, I think that scares them away to. Anyway thanks for all the info I will put it to use. Wish me luck. Blessings to all.

Hi david isaiah,
I wished you still lived here maybe we could have got together that way. I live in a small town called Middletown, it is between Anderson and Muncie and New Castle. Right in the Middle to the three towns. About 40 Miles north east of Indy. I have looked in the paper and there is nothing. There is one in Anderson, but she does animals, among other things, grooming and etc. I don't really want to venture out to those surrounding town just yet and that is where the hospitals are and Libraries and such. I think I will just place a small ad in our local paper for starters and see where that gets me. Wish me luck.

Best of luck! Go with your gut, and see what happens. :)
You might also want to print up some handy flyers to have on hand for clients when they come -- about what to expect, to drink water, etc. People like to go away with something to read.
I would ensure that anything you write down is carefully worded so you emphasize that Reiki is not a replacement for medical treatment, and that benefits will vary widely between individuals. Look up ads online to see what wording they use to protect themselves. :) Cover your bases!
Go for it!
