I found out about reiki at a time that I needed it. I was first introduced to reiki at the New Life Expo, which is held bi-annually. I attended, I admi, with a bit of trepidation. I was not sure what to expect. At the same time I was feeling exhausted and stressed out from work. I had that ever nagging tired / fatigued feeling that is ever present but at this point in time was the worst. I received a 20 minute reiki demo at the Expo and after that, I felt "normal" again. Not "up" not "down", but "just right"! After that, I got into a few regular reiki sessions and then the reiki I attunement.
Reiki has benefited me with managing stress. It is an excellent stress management tool. I pity anyone who is hooked on massages or pills or any other temporary solutions. Reiki lasts much longer than any massage could or would! Reiki is also a way of life. It is a beautiful thing!
What has lead some of you down the reiki path?
Love and light!

Dear AIM,
I was in a Holistic Practitioner course & one of the classes given was Reiki, so I walked into this with NO idea of what I was getting into....I was very surprised during the attunement as I definitely felt a connection & 3 days later I felt " stuff" dumping out of me.
After 15 months, Im still learning & growing.
Namaste,

I was basically kicked in the butt by my guides. That is how I ended up in a Reiki class.
I was attending the Southwest Institute for the Healing Arts. I was signed up for a class in Rayid Eye movement. I went to the room, and it had been cancelled. After the drive to campus, I was very disappointed. then I walked by another room and was "pushed" inside. This was a Reiki I class, I had no idea what it was, but didn't want to go home empty "headed". I loved it. After my attunement, I could see my guides dancing around the room. Within one year I became a Master Teacher. That was in 1998. I use it everyday.

AIM,
I had never heard of Reiki, had no idea what it was, but several people kept asking me if I knew about it. I was very into Native American culture and was also quite depressed at the time. It was at the end of a two year depression that my spiritual counselor told me she saw Reiki symbols on me. Because her guidance is always right on, I called a woman I had studied healing touch with and asked for a treatment, just to see. I was surprised it was hands on, I thought it was all "in the aura" work. I had woken up with a spasm in my neck and thought I should cancel the appt. and see the chiropractor instead, but I went for the Reiki. Of course, you know how it ended. Not only did my spasm disappear, but stuff came out I thought was GONE months ago. I signed up for Reiki one at another place and stayed on the path, over two years now. I realized that this was where my deep depression was leading me. During that period, I had a dream of a large white house that was not quite ready for me. Now my dreams are of exploring more and more hidden rooms in mansions and castles! And of course, joy is everywhere!

I heard of reiki first from a friend of a friend - she came to visit from the States. After only meeting her once I was very angry when she left our house - I raged about all over the place. She came again and I had swollen glands (about a week later). We hadn't talked about reiki at that point but she told me about lots of things that day and gave me a mini session to help with my throat and general slumpedness that I was feeling. I felt the energy flooding me and sat up straight. I met her a few more times before she left but didn't learn a lot more about reiki.
I live in quite a rural area but heard the word here and there and saw posters advertising attunements. Somehow I knew I had to do this and booked reiki 1 with a lady. This class was cancelled however but the next day I attended a group for the first time, meeting a whole bunch of people who were already attuned. At this group was one other reiki master who had a class that weekend and I took it with her.
All I can say about that is that my life has never been the same since - thank goodness. Lots of ups and downs, things to face, amazing dreams, extreme emotions, realisations. I've met lots of very interesting people that I don't think I would have if it hadn't been for the reiki circle of people locally. Most of us have gone our own ways now but we still bump into each other occasionally.
Before reiki I used to put my hands on my mother-in-law's knees to help with arthritis pains not knowing what I was doing. She always got some relief. We thought it was amazing but so natural somehow.
So there you go. All that seems like such a long time ago. In reality its just over three years since I met my American friend but it feels like lifetimes. It feels as if its always been like this for me.
Love
Eleanor
