Hi everybody!
My mom is currently visiting NY city to celebrate the birthday of her brother's girlfriend and I was wondering if there is something she must have experienced before leaving. Like a great restaurant, a unique music event, a shopping mall, whatever... I know there are some New Yorkers out there on this board so I thought to myself: Why not ask? She really needs the vacation.
If you're from New York and know some place worth visiting during her stay, about two weeks starting today, I would appreciate any tips from you.

ivoryraven,
/*\ Namaste :-}}
- well, the Guggenheim Museum is excellent
- The New York Philharmonic if they are performing (and one can get a ticket)
- most any Broadway show (if only for the experience)
- restaurants?? NYC is loaded with great places to eat. Of course, the famous ones are pretty pricy
- Sardi's is a landmark eatery in the heart of the theater district

- hope this helps

Dear Daniel,
Firekeeper's tips are all very good. I may be prejudiced, but I'm particular fond of Grand Central Terminal. It's a beautiful piece of architecture by itself, but right now, for the holidays, there is a gift fair in one of the halls for interesting shopping. There are many fine store, restaurants, and an international food court downstairs.
Of course, Rockefeller Center, around Christmas time is a great treat, as is all of Fifth Avenue in midtown.
Blessings,
Roxy

I'm not a native New Yorker, but in addition to the others' suggestions, New York City Music Hall's Christmas Show would be at the top of my list this time of year.

why not the Empire State building?
i made a point of seeing it in 2002, when i was last in the city. plus it's near museums, fifth avenue, and not too far from Central Park, i believe. :)
all good -- whatever she chooses.

Hi Daniel,
In addition to what has been suggested already...
The Statue of Liberty is a good bet. As is the Southstreet Seaport.
As far as museums go, I would definitely visit the American Museum of Natural History (& check out the Rose Hayden Planetarium while you are there). Other great museums are the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, and the Intrepid Sea Air Space Museum (they now have Concorde there).
The Old Homestead Steakhouse is a great restaurant to check out.
I agree with Firekeeper about going to a Broadway show. I hear that Chicago with Wayne Brady is fantastic!
I hope she enjoys her trip!
Jim
