I was wondering if anyone could tell me the possible causes of night sweats?
I have been waking with night sweats on and off for about a month. Very frustrating. I am only 36 and don't think it would be peri or menopause. Stress is not a concern as I don't feel stressed. My hormones are not quite right but would that cause night sweats?
Is there a spot to work self reiki for this?
Thanks,
Tracey

Dear Dakota,
Hormonal changes, not just menopausal changes, could be involved with night sweats & there are infections & other conditions like diabetes & sleep disorders that you can see night sweats with. Run it by your doctor & be sure to include any other symptoms as people often leave out info that may help a doc make a diagnosis. For example, a chronic cough might be significant to the doc though not to you. You might consider any herbs or supplements or medications ( birth control pills too) or foods that you are eating or drinking in greater quantities than normal. Even safe substances used in multiple combinations can produce an effect unique to the individual, not contained in the research literature.
As for Reiki: a full body treatment. If it is hormonal or infectious, then working all the glands & immune system, etc cant hurt!!Would also suggest increasing your water intake to replace the water lost through sweating. Also try decreasing or rearranging the covers around you, allowing more room for air flow between you & sheets, etc.
peace & joy,
holobon

Tracey,
/*\ Namaste :-}}
- along with what Holobon has mentioned?? Also, some prescription drugs can be related to night sweats - some people have reported that taking Zoloft or Paxil, for example, is associated with an onset of night sweats not present previously; other drugs may interact this way also so if you have been taking something new lately??
- anyhow, I would also recommend you get checked out. Even blood pressure being out of whack a bit might be enough.
- as for energy work? Practices to restore balance would be recommended (night sweats are a sign of imbalance, afterall)

I know the frustration of waking up covered in sweat. I can't say much about why it's happening to you but here is how I deal with it. Take a nice clean towel to bed with you and lay on top of it. And perhaps a hand towel too. You can deal with your sweat and get right back to sleep.
I tried Dong Quai and found it helpful. You can get it in tea form too. Not sure if it is safe or not but I find I sleep really well after having it.
Best Wishes,
Annie

Hi Dakota,
Dong Quai can be had thru any herb store and also the tea that is called Traditional Medicinals (i think that's what its called). Makes a Woman's Formula that contains it as well. I find that whenever I'm feeling under the weather that particular tea does wonders for me. My nightsweats are definately caused my peri-menopause. I've had my hormone levels checked via a blood test and they indicate perimenapause. I'm just 40. They say it could go on for 10 or 15 years. I just received a bio-identical hormone replacement that comes in the form of a small rice sized pellet that gets injected under the skin and lasts for 6 months. It has restored my sanity. It is not premerine or or other type of hormone that has been in the news for increased risk of breast cancer. It is supposed to protect against breast cancer, alzheimers, osteoporosis and diabetes. However, who really knows if I made a wise choice. It was a leap of faith and a grasping at straws and it has worked.
Good luck,
Annie
