I have looked and looked but cannot find the meaning, if there is one, for the Tibetan sun totem.
I worked with a woman and this was a clear totem for her. I have researched the picture I saw and it was Tibetan.
Does anyone have info about this? Peter?
The Crow was also a totem for her and raven was closely related if that helps any.
Thank you much,
Tracey

Tracey,
/*\ Namaste :-}}
- what made you believe the "totem" is Tibetan??
- can you describe this "totem"
- I know a little about buddhist symbolism related to the sun

Hi Peter,
The only thing I have to go one is that I saw an image, very detailed, of this sun and even drew it. I began looking up sun images and there it was. Now hte image I found was "called" a Tibetan sun totem. That is not to say that it truly is. It is all I have to define what I saw. Any thoughts? and thatnk you for responding:)

Tracey,

- does your sun drawing look like a yellow ball with rays coming out?? or ??
- there are more esoteric symbols that 'represent' the sun that do not look at all like our mundane sun
- so a description of what you drew would be helpful - otherwise I am just guessing

Hi Peter,
The sun is round with jagged "flames" coming off with eyes and mouth closed. Gold/yellow in color. Very hard to do better in words. The eyes and mouth are slits.

Tracey,

- I recently spent three weeks in Bhutan (one of the world's most traditionally buddhist countries) trekking and visiting various monastaries and temples - the sun figure as you describe it is not part of their iconography as far as I can tell
- there are any number of esoteric symbols for 'sun qualities' in the buddhist tradition but none that I came across anywhere are as you describe
- Tibet is also heavily buddhist and shares a good deal of history with Bhutan (tried to invade Bhutan several times in the past (1500's or so) and several key Rinpoches had Tibetan roots before migrating to Bhutan
- sorry I cannot confirm this for you as Tibetan\buddhist
- even the olde Bon tradition which predates modern buddhism has no symbol as you describe it (that I could discern)
