Hi everyone!
I know this is way off the reiki subject or anything close. I am currently considering on-line banking. Has anyone had experience with it and is it safe. I have heard so many horror stories re: identify theft etc.
thanks,
Prosperity

My husband and I have been using OLB for a couple of years with no problems. make sure you have good security set up on your computer, get reuglar updates to it and change your pins often. We find it invaluable for a busy family life. Ours is through a credit union. I don't know if there are any differences if you are using a regualr bank as far as security and reliability. Absolutely speak with you bank about any cocnerns about their track record of paying bills on time, any incorrect debits, etc.
I as terrified at first too but my hubby really took the time to look into it and helped me feel more comfortable. I am a real pencil/paper kind of gal. I still don't use my yahoo calendar but have a good ole' fashion (me at 36!) desk calendar of the Far Side, LOL
Hope this helps,
Tracey

Hi Tracey,
Thank you. That does reassure me. Changing our bank pin number or user ID or password I take it. I have this other problem as an extra phone line in one of our basement rooms that I found out is connected to a business near my home. I have called the phone companies and they have said they have no phone lines in my home. I have called the company and am told the same thing. It all feels somewhat intimidating to me. I again, appreciate your response.
peace,
Prosperity

- I am not sure how your phone could be connected to a business near you unless someone is somehow pirating phone service (but that would show up on your bill, I assume
- get your phone company to send out a technician to run a test on that basement line
- in the meantime maybe disconnect that phone from the jack.

Dear Firekeeper,
Yes thanks I just don't want to get in trouble as there was a phone hooked up but rarely used as it was the kids room and mostly was unplugged.

Dear Firekeeper,
I've always been a bit paranoid. Especially these days.

Prosperity,
My husband works for our phone company. I will check with him on the hows and whys and what you can do. Until then, do not sign up for the internet banking just in case the other line could havce access to your info.

Ok,
I have spoken with my hubby and I will condense what he told me about your sencond phone line.
He said you need to call the phone company and TELL them that they need to come out to your street and take the off the loop from your house to the pole that attaches that phone line. make sure they don't take the wrong one, LOL.
You can also call the company that holds the phone number to that line and make them aware of the error and they too can ask to have it removed. There is no charge for this. They do not need to come into your home.
As to your fears about whether the other line can get a hold of your info for on-line banking: No. Only if you use your computer on that jack can they get access. Use your own phone line and there is no problem.
My hubby says that it is a unfortunate practiceof one workers to disconnect and reconnect numbers at the box but not go out and actually climb the pole to detach the loop. They are just lazy by trade (at least around here:))
I hope this helps you and my hubby wishes you the best of luck.

Dear Tracey,
Thanks for that info. I will insist that they come to our house as I have called several phone companies and they just have said there is none of their phone lines in our home. So, your husband could be right about laziness.
thanks again,
Prosperity

prosperity,
Hi.
It seems to me that the phone company to call is the one to whom you pay $$$ every month for land-line phone service. You get a bill every month, after all. Correct?
If you also have cell phone service the cell phone folks will not, of course, have phone lines to your house.
:)
Good luck.
Cheers,
RC

Dear RC,
I will have to check the bill as my spouse does the phone bill and does not let me near it as he believes I may change the service plan.
thanks,
