Has anyone done a colon cleanse before? The herbal fiber, pills & tea thing, not the colonics/enemas. Was your experience positive or negative? I dont want to gross anyone out so any gory details, please just email me.

Dear Firekeeper,
Well, I guess I am exploring "my bad ole self" & trying to prove, once & for all, that I am not full of it!! :)
BTW, I took a double take at your icon & was expecting a stream of South Park little guys to walk across the post!

There is an India retreat center in Pa that does colon cleansing. I have two friends that have gone there. Hope it's helpful.

Dear Firekeeper,
HaHaHa...thanks for the laughs, I have aways admired your play with words!! Minister of the Interior? HeHeHe
As for South Park, I watched it at the suggestion of a much younger coworker & I would say that it does appeal to the lower self. :)
Actually, I have been skeptical of herbal colon cleanses as traditional medicine has little good to say about this approach. No matter how much I get into alternatives, 30 years of traditional nursing forces me to look at data, cant seem to get past that! But I am finding, in my case, that the claims as to results are accurate. Still cautious about it as I have seen the "end" results of overuse of colonic stimulants. But perhaps this too is about not overdoing a good thing. What does make me pause is the number of hospital admissions for partial or total bowel obstruction that require NG tube, etc & yet never define a cause. Our diets have gotten so poor is it any wonder! Ooops, Im on my soapbox which was not my intention in replying to your post. HaHa, well, maybe not consciously anyway!

Dear T2,
Good to hear from you!!
Actually, Im not much of a fan of colonics ( enema type cleanses). But Im not really educated on the modern hydrotherapy colonics either. Perhaps due to so many enemas & colon preps I gave as a nurse & seeing so many people become dependant on them. To me, they are last chance solutions to constipation or obstipation & reflect a system totally out of balance. Many medications, health conditions, diet, etc factor into this. Im not suggesting that they are wrong, one has to decide that for themself. However, one can become overly focused on bowel function & I guess this is the impression I have of people running to these centers chronically. So sorry if I have offended anyone. Perhaps it is just that the only people I have run into that talk about this over & over are those that are focused on it. But after seeing worms & parasites with my own eyes after starting this cleanse, I realize that this is another area traditional medicine ignores. So maybe the growth of these centers is an end result of a culture that does not address the issue of bowel health & human parasites.
You are probably sorry you posted now. More info than you wanted Im sure. HeHe. Am I developing an obsession here?

Dear Holoban,
Good for you! Been there! Fiber and plenty of water along with herbal teas are great in my opinion to do at least once a year. I wouldn't go longer than 4 months and then ease off gradually if you're doing psycillium (excuse my spelling) and a tip from a healthy 90 year old women hiker who said her secret was eating a stalk of celery each night before she went to bed.
Colonics are good too and work better if you get a follow-up. Once or twice a year at most. Unless you have serious health problems. Most illnesses do start in the bowels as toxic conditions effect the whole body and parasites rob you of nutrition.
Can I ask what you are ingesting at this time? Thanks for this post and your honesty.
thanks,
blessings,
Prosperity

Otoharo!
Holobon, I add oat bran to most of the foods I eat. For instance, I love the instant pudding mixes and use this to get more yogurt in my diet. I add ground up almonds and oat bran. Any food that does not have fiber in it, I add or drink some oat bran in a little water with that meal. It has eliminated all the problems I use to have.

Hey Holobon,
If you would like the recipe for a wonderful cleanse I use then please email me. I'd gotten the colon cleanse recipe for making your own pills a few years ago and lost it.
I found it a few days ago and am on my way to make my own once again.
You can buy a pill maker for about 20 bucks and its so worth it to invest that in yourself.
I spent about 6 bucks on the veggie caps and the herbs to make hundreds of my own. ( only bought a hundred caps though)..
I think that cleansing the colon and the liver are some of the most important stuff we can do to maintain our good health..
Love you,
J

- glad there were some yuks to go around - because some of these 'cleanses' sound a bit extreme and can have some unhappy endings
- a friend of ours, massage therapist and RM, did some sort of 'colonic cleanse' 18 months ago - ended up with a perpherated colon and then septicemia or some similar infection - needed emergency surgery, hospitalization, etc etc - did not start back to her practice for almonst 8 months due to recurring fever and other lingering ills from the infection - if I recall, she even picked up a staph infection while in-hospital
- so, if you want to get sick??? go to a hospital!!

I just started what is called a "PARASITE ATTACK PLAN". Begins with a colon cleanse using a product called Oxy Powder (no cramping or severe urgency). The whole process takes 4-6 weeks and includes Hulda Clarkes recipes for a liver/gallbladder flush and kidney flush. A friend has done the kidney flush and was shocked at the results, she also has more energy and feels great. Clearing the clutter around the house is one thing, it is time for me to get rid of other unwanted stuff. Sounds like a lot of us are doing the same thing.

Dear Firekeeper,
Sorry to hear that. Sounds as if that was a very rough time for your friend. Sepsis is unfortunately not unusual with colon perforation and significantly lengthens healing time.
There certainly are conditions for which cleanses might be contraindicated without medical advice.
I do not know anything about colonic clinics but if they do high enemas they likely carry a risk of perforation of the colon as do endoscopy procedures.
As for me, my focus is on parasite removal. I am a big meat, fowl & fish eater. I have seen quite a few parasitic diseases in the hospital, one of the most memorable being a pt from South America with a brain "cyst" from improperly cooked pork who required brain surgery.
Im not promoting cleanses but seeking input from others with experience. The unfortunate experience of your friend is a reminder that most treatments carry some risk no matter how simple, natural or innocent they may appear.

Dear Kthrnjn,
Well, I almost backed out of doing any parasite cleanse when I was at Hulda Clarke's site & read her claims about all cancers being caused by a liver fluke. Do not mean to offend anyone but that is stretching quite a bit for me. I do agree about the energy increase as I have seen an improvement after the first few days.

Hello sweetie,
I will check my mail when I get back to work, the recipe is there.
Just so you know, I'd also add Milk Thistle to your recipe to add bile action and repair of the liver.
I"m going organic which is pretty cool. Not sure what touched off such water release all at once but wow.. I just started this morning so it could be a fluke.
I"m doing the Liver cleanse and detox diet which is really not so much a diet as it is a detox for all the tissue in the body. I've never gone organic so shopping yesterday was pretty fantastic.
I have organic veggies and fruits and all kinds of neat stuff.
I like that you are allowed virtually all foods except dairy ( which I substitute with soy milk or rice milk) and that is pretty neat to me. Even meat is not off limits if its doesn't have the hormones. I can't wait to see what a week will feel like energetically.
Good Luck sweetie and I"ll be sending you the information asap.

Dear FireKeeper,
Sorry to hear that about your friend in regards to colonics. I've had a few in my life and they are similar to an enema where the person receiving indicates how much water is taken in due to comfort level. I have heard of people getting colonoscopies who have had their colon punctured by this tube that is inserted with a camera into the colon which I've also had done. Fortuneately, I was put under for the medical procedure.

i approached a naturopath/salesperson in a health food store about kits such as these. she suggested that since i had no immediate problem to remedy, that i wait until the fall, which is seasonally more suited to organ cleansing.
i do know that spring and fall are considered optimal for organ cleansing in chinese medecine - i believe that it's liver in the spring, and kidneys in the fall.

Otoharo!
When I mentioned eating oat bran, I did not mean due to constipation. It keeps the colon clear and in working order whatever. I have reported in the past that kifir made by a reiki person, has cleared toxins from the cells of my body. At least to the extent that I can go. If we cleared everything all at once, it would kill us, very likely. That is, our body would be overwhelmed. It pays to take things a step at a time.
