Three of us together at the beach, sitting at the edge of the woods. A young red tailed hawk lands in a bush 5 feet from us and stares at us for an hour. We stare back. I saw it fly perfectly normally into the bush, but the others wonder if it is injured. Finally, it jumps on the sand 3 feet from us, holding out a wing as if injured. We feel sorry for it....begin to call the forestry people on the cell phone for help, but all 3 of us begin to send Reiki as well. The bird pulls its wing in and flies off perfectly fine. We follow it to see where it goes. It lands on the walkway ON the back of a bench where a lady sits. She does not see it. There are several people on the walkway. The bird dives across the water and disappears. We cannot see where it went, and NOBODY else saw the bird. My husband asked everyone he saw there. Not even the woman on the bench. This was one of the most unusual things I have ever experienced outside of a dream! My friend had just been recounting her very upsetting summer dealing with the medical institution and her frustration with their "care" of her relative. She was drained and angry before the hawk came. We left in wonder and inspiration. This is not the first time a hawk has approached she and me when we were together. It was so unbelievable.
Peace,
Feather

Thank you for sharing your experience! Have you looked into the meaning of Red Tailed Hawk as a totem? I think is was great that it appeared to the both of you, how exciting!

It is a visionary with keen powers of observation. When it comes, it signifies that there is a powerful message coming and one must pay close attention and observe carefully. Funny, my friend had JUST been talking about how people fail to observe, and that any healing must begin with keen observation......
Peace,
Feather

Dear Feather,
Wow!!! It appears that you received a demonstration of what you had just talked about. That lady's concentration was somewhere else & she did not see or sense the hawk behind her. So, she had the opportunity that you did but did not take it. That seems very significant to me & a host of thoughts arise from that one....
One side of me says that maybe this young hawk is used to people, whatever the reason. And it is startling what we can miss simply because we are not in the moment. The spiritual side of me shouts out that it was a lesson, a gift.
Im thrilled that you shared this, Feather.

My husband and I are still in awe......we can't stop thinking or talking about this. So many messages come to us. So many things to think about.......I think it will take awhile to process. One thought I had today was that perhaps Mother Earth is telling us she is not as wounded as we think....but she may feign woundedness to draw out of us our true nature as One with Her. My husband and I keep going back to who was helping whom...did we help the hawk or did the hawk come to help us....or is there really no separation and that is the message? For sure, the message to observe carefully was heard by all.
Blessings,
Feather

Dear Feather,
Perhaps we underestimate how much the world around us responds to what we think, say and do. If a water crystal can react to negative & positive words....what can our words do to those beings that live in proximity? As exciting as this is,I find it sobering as well. Im thinking of the times when I am negative & wondering who or what I may be affecting. Maintaining a positive equilibrium takes on even more importance.

Very true. I once had an experience where I was meditating in the back yard. Three very pretty "new" birds were across the yard. I decided to focus on them and thought, "What if they approach me while I focus on them?" Sure enough, they came closer and closer, until they sat on a branch right over my head while I meditated. They looked at me, and I looked at them, amazed, because they were so beautiful and new to me (turned out to be immature orioles)AND because they seemed to read my mind! A good reminder, as is your post, that our thoughts are powerful. I also remember my middle son, at age 3 or 4, sitting BEHIND me in the car and reading my mind.....he knew when I had a worried thought, and would say, "Mommy, why are you worried?" Drove me nuts! I felt like I couldn't have a private negative thought without inflicting it on my son! So funny how we keep needing reminders....will we ever just GET IT?
Have a peace filled evening,
Feather

Dear Feather,
Between your post & Finality's about being blunt you both have me thinking ( smell the wood smoke?? :)
Im reminded of the admonishment in the Bible that even to think the bad thought is a "sin". The interpretation that some put on that: the thought is as bad as the action & so you are guilty just by the thought...as a child that was a very scarey concept to consider. Children dont censor their thoughts as much as adults & they reach their lips much more quickly. Somewhere along the way we learn not to say what we think. I remember the furor around Jimmy Carter & his admitting to lust in his heart. He was just being honest but was condemned for it by some. Guess a president isnt supposed to be honest.
We often fail to see that even our thoughts have connections to the environment & the people around us. Perhaps that concept is too much for people, too much responsibility?
I find myself shying away from it sometimes. Im not gentle enough in my thoughts though I wish to be.
We dont seem to be doing very well with our actions these days. Maybe we fight the connection between thoughts & speech & action because we are afraid? Cynical? Or do we see ourselves as above it? The highest evolved species?
In this month's Mother Earth there was a letter sent to the editor. The author said that there was no inherent value in nature except for what it could provide to humans, its aesthetic value. In a nutshell, that spoke to me of why we are in the fix we find ourselves in, we have lost respect for species other than ourselves & the world that supports us. Actually, we dont even respect ourselves, we wouldnt be so quick to kill if we had respect for human life.
But reading of encounters such as the one you had reminds me that there is so much more to know about us and our world.
peace & joy,
holobon
