peak experiences

As usual, reading posts here has prompted me to look at personal issues such as Ego & Shadow. In my wanderings I read a statement regarding the humanistic psychologist
Maslow. Supposedly, he saw religion as "an effort to communicate peak-experiences to non-peakers". These peak experiences allow one to feel connected with a broader universe. Wow, when I read that something clicked! Try explaining Reiki vs. experiencing Reiki!! If you cant or wont allow yourself to "feel it", it is much harder to connect to the whole thing. Flow & openess vs. rigid filtering of experience......
In regard to our continuing discussions of Ego: one theory is that Ego evolves from an avoidance of death and the general state of imperfection that death represents to humans. Much to consider there.
The Shadow contains personality issues too difficult for Ego to handle so they are dumped & left in the Shadow side. Magically, these issues seem to appear in one form or another in those people who get under our skin! :)

peace & joy,
holobon

Hmmm. I wonder if that is why the longer I work on my own stuff, the fewer people I can find that I don't like!
