The Reiki Cafe 

Good Morning!
I am very excited to share that I am starting massage therapy school on Monday!

I may not be around the Cafe much if studies get in the way but I will be thinking of you often.

- I would throw out one 'cautionary note' based on reports I have gotten in the past from some students (and their instructors) in a couple of local massage schools: toward the end of their training the schools held "student massage days" where massages were 1\2 price, or in some cases free at certain times, so the students could get more practices - well the freebie sessions, in particular, tended to draw some "strange" folks who seemed to have some "strange" fetishes they tried to act out during their massages

- as many have said: fore-warned is fore-armed

LOL, yes, my school does just that and given my area, nothing will surprise me. Those who try will get a swift goodbye.

My concern is the days we have to give massages to each other in class sans clothing, under cover. Not looking forward to that but in EMT school we had to do patient surveys hands-on so I will adjust. Not to mention after having 2 children in a teaching hospital all dignity goes out the window, LOL

Hi Tracey,
Its a bit wierd at first to be undressed on a massage table even if you are under a sheet. You will have some privacy when you have to do this?

Hot stone massage is heaven....Im thinking "Ahhhhhhhh" just thinking about it. :)

I finished massage school four years ago. I enjoyed every minute of it. I was in school for 40 hours a week and because I was a single mom, I also worked 42+ hours a week.
I finally had to learn to prioritize everything. I was able to study at work which helped a lot. I quit cleaning my house and since my boys were old enough to help they did it.(cringe) I also only did my own laundry. My boys can now clean, cook and do laundry.(lucky woman that marries them)
I graduated with honours and I am really proud of what I was able to do. Because I teach my kids by example, they now had a higher mark to hit.
I love to give massages. If I go too long without giving one my fingers itch. I almost get as much from giving a massage as I when I recieve one. Giving a massage while doing Reiki is so awesome!
You will get very accustomed to getting massages. Remember that weekly massage only lasts a year and then you go into withdrawl. lol.
I did use my boys as study buddys. They got muscles drawn on them with washable ink. They got a lot of work done on them so I could practice/study while spending time with them.
Even getting undressed got to where it doesn't phase me now.

Long time no see...I've been in massage school since August of 2004 and I love it. I've been doing massage professionally now for over a year and it is the best job ever!!!

We did massage with each other occassional in Inner Peace Movement. FC was very paritcular that we always wore our clothing. This was informal. So in the 90's when a local group began asking for massagers, I went in to see about things. They asked me to demonstrate. Well, I went into the small room set up for this, the man charge, lay on the cot, without any clothes to receive the demonstration. I proceeded as though he wore his undies, but I did not get the job!
