My supervisor (and a friend of 6 yrs) has his relationship problems. He looked depressed and didn't eat much. I tried to ask how he is. He seemed doesnt want to answer. The question is should I ask him how he feels or leave him alone? It happened again a few years ago, he went through a bad time (had nervous breakdown) and I supported him fully. He thanked me for supporting him as his family is in other states. However this week I feel he doesn't want me to support him? Your advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Dawn,
An extended gentle hand of friendship is usually appreciated. Just let him know you are there for him when he is ready to talk and for now let it go at that. I would every now and then remind him of your offer to listen.
Of course you know him best and it is generally wise to go with one's gut feelings.
