2 weeks ago I put my 13 year old dog to sleep. She suffered from advancing age and was dying. When I returned home from the vet, I felt her spirit & saw her in my mind's eye tell me that she had waited for me to come home and then she was gone.
A few days ago I was in the shower & heard a dog bark & opened the shower door, expecting to see my dog. ( I like hot showers & if not careful can fog up the room which sets off the smoke alarm. My dog hated that alarm & would stand just outside the shower door facing me or start barking from the bedroom if the bathroom fogged up to the point that the alarm was sure to come on). When I opened the shower door all the mirrors were fogged up & I started laughing knowing that Brandy was still watching out for me. Now logic will say that acoustics brought the sound of a large dog barking into the bathroom & I will say that in 10 years I have never heard a dog bark while in the shower unless it was from a very alive dog in the bedroom or bathroom. It wasnt until the next day that I realized that it was 2 weeks to the day that she passed on. This is my first experience of this phenomena. I was bonded to this dog. My mother marveled at the way she would look me in the face & listen intently to what I said. When she needed something she would stand by me & look up at me as if I could read her mind which I never could. I did try though. :)
peace & joy,
holobon

Isn't it wonderful what lessons our animal companions teach us about the spirit world? How fortunate you are to have had this relationship. Blessings on your heart, how full and how sad it must be.
Love,
Feather

Hi holobon,
having lost Jake my 14 year old coliie cross before christmas, I understand how you feel.
Every now and then I get the impression that he is still around. His bark or a shadow in the corner that he used to lay. It is more a feeling than a physical sensation, a sort of knowing that he visits now and again :)
With the bond that you shared with Brandy, it makes sense. Death doesn't break that bond, merely changes it into something different :)
Gentle Blessings
Helen

It is a blessing to feel the spirit of a special friend or loved one that has passed. I am fortunate to be so blessed. Thank you for kind words.
I do believe in moving forward although at times, it feels cold to me, that attitude. Accepting what "is" rather than what I wish is often a challenge.
The gift of friendship & love resides in the heart and soul and does not die. :)
peace & joy,
holobon

I once had a dream of a sinistir turn where a dog attacked me. I broke its neck.
Recently though, I was conemplating the dream, and I lit a bit of sage and asked the dog in my dream for forgivness. I got the impression of a dog at my feet looking up and licking my hand, as if saying yeah I forgive you, and then fading. Maybe I'm just cracked, but I felt better.
