Thank you for the kind wishes as you feel them. However, I am not so sure that wishing for the absence of Bardo will get you very far (just another reincarnation which is also called suffering). Remember too that there are millions of folks who do what they can to prepare to face the Bardo.

The Bardo is not a nightmare. :)

As for NDEs? Those who claim NDEs may well have seen a "place" where those who have not passed the Bardo successfully are 'stranded', for lack of a better word this morning, until they reincarnate. Not everyone reincarnates right away. And, there is no reason to think that this "waiting area\time" is not well lit. LOL

Then too, what is experienced by those who claim NDE, which is not actually death since it is called near death, may simply be a glimpse of the first stage of the Bardo "thru" their astral-consciousness.

Remember, seeing people as they knew them in life as part of an NDE is likely a memory trace. Once we die that which continues on does not look as we did in physical body. And, We do not have the same physical appearance in each incarnation.

Perhaps what you say is so, how can we prove otherwise? I happen to believe the NDE are real.

As for the Bardo? Yes, many people prepare for it. But remember the Tibetan Book of the Dead was written when no one came back from death or near death, so there are definitely no reports of that, except what seers may have seen.

So, my wish for you stands. Deal with it!

Some that Reincarnate, which is the closest we get to
'returning from the dead', have sufficient recall of one or more past lives that he\she may be able to contribute that knowledge. And, I do not recall saying that NDEs were not real, at least not in the sense you seem to be using that misnomer. We may judge the experience to be "real" but we do not know what the exact nature of that experience to be or from whence the images we may have arise.

True, there's no way to really know about NDE's....but I agree with you about reincarnation, having done a lot of regression myself. I don't have any memory of what happens in between.

As for chocolate....are you a Hershey's or Godiva man?

--What is the bardo supposed to be anyway? Some sort of hellish experiences we go through when we die? I've read prayers from the Book of the Dead and still don't understand it. It seems that it's for the sake of the living to read it.

The BotD is read for the one who is passing. It is a most compassionate act (though sometimes a family will offer some sort of remuneration to the monk or lama doing the reading) and the intention is to assist the person thru the Bardo so, hopefully, they do not re-incarnate (or if they do that the next life will have less suffering)

It seems to me that it is largely Judeo-Christian thinking that funerals are for the living as, I would guess, most jews and christians do not hold with reincarnation. The idea of a hell also seems necessary in dualistic thinking since some religions teach that there is some place called heaven (the opposite of hell to the dualistic mind).

Bardo is no more "hellish" than one's Karma.

Dear RC,
Thank you for your comments. I have read prayers from the Book of the Dead for ones who have passed with others. Although I still do not quite understand it. I've been to Catholic funerals and they do pray over and over like a mantra which like the Book of the Dead can be very soothing. I was also with someone doing cleansing on a home reading from the American Book of the Dead prayers.
