Otoharo!
This morning, while sitting on my stool watching the fire in the fireplace, I was mulling over how air energy works. It suddenly occurred to me (after a lot of time mulling) that I could identify some dynamics of following. Air energy is not a leadership energy. I was taught of course as a teacher to keep control of the class energy, and later with IPM I learned that energy has to be in the charge of someone, a human. If no one is taking charge of a situation I do it. I take charge. Otherwise, it does not occur to me. Why is that?
As metaphor, air seeks out all space in order to fill it. This is passive. Fire on the other hand, si highly focused and as a consequesce is always in charge. Firemen know that!
So air energy is a following energy. How? I recall in a group of people, whatever the size, I take note without thinking to do so, just from energy level, of an energy that my energy recognizes as leader. It is not that I look at the people but my gut is feeling for leader gut feeling.
Telling about this in words puts it into the head, the intellect region. I am sure ego is seeing opportunity to take charge! but I am on to ego!
Since mind resides in the cells and outside the physcial, I suspect that it is mind that takes note of energy.
Anyway, that is all I have come up with so far!

- depending on tradition, Air (as East) may be understood as the seed of thought and action; that primal Potential for initiation
- not exactly a following energy, I would offer

Otoharo!
Very interesting! I did not know that air is East. Thanks for these thoughts.

Namaste,
I've done only 2 medicine wheels so I know each are different but I was taught that air was north if that what this is about. North representing spirit, listening, being receptive to receive guidance.

Otoharo!
Another quality I noticed today that I view as a dynamic of following, is willing. One has to be willing to find the leader energy. Or to take charge in case the is none.

Finality,
In some of my elemental training we were reminded that each has various aspects: one might be hard pressed to consider a tornado as "passive," or barely-visible embers as "taking charge." The other elements are similarly considered.
Also, speaking astrologically, each element has three qualities. For air: Gemini, mutable; Aquarius, fixed; and Libra, cardinal (initiatory action).
Bright blessings; hail Eris!

- yes, quite useful and often 'effective' to invoke the various aspects of each of the Cardinal Elements alone or in some 'nifty' combination

Otoharo!
Thank you. I am using elements as the quality of persons. This does not coincide with astrology. As I use these, fire is leadership, clear hearing, etc. Water is feeler, loves the world and all things, relates to the world from the standpoint of feeling. Earth sees, is colorful, likes things neat and orderly, but may have a jumble inside drawers, etc. Air goes by inner knowing, gets the whole concept quickly, then lets its parts reveal themselves. Air people rely heavily on their second element. Me, for instance. I am air first, then earth. So I get the whole concept then allow pictures to come to get the details. Etc.
I am now becoming aware that my quality of air, is not leadership. So I am looking at the follower dynamics. The lastest is willing. That is, willing to follow.

Finality,
The qualities you have ascribed to the elements are, one might say, where astrology begins; it then refines by triplicities and other considerations. It is also rather in agreement with a number of magical systems vis-a-vis personality types.

Otoharo!
I am not wanting to appear to be arguing, but I studied the works of a group whose conclusions found four types of people and their ending statement was that these conclusions were not also related to astrology. I would give you names of the study and one of the authors, but I can't call it to mind. I was delighted that there was such a close correlation with what I have shown which is from Xaris.

Perhaps I need to add that Xaris did not teach this but knew about my study when I first met her and the years following as I was completing my book. She verified tha information about the four elements because I did not stress this and she thought I should have. (I was stressing sense dominance).
I looked in my bibliography and found the study: Meyers, I and Briggs, K "Manual, a Guide to the Development and Use of the Meyers-Briggs Type Indicator", California Consulting Psychologiests Press, 1985.

Finality,
Sorry, my mistake. I guess that my 20 or so years of studying astrology have been wasted.

Not at all! I am interested in all your comments which show a lot of knowledge. Keep on bringing us up to date on astrological matters. What the Briggs study was about simple did not coincide with the date of birth of their sample. That does not mean date of birth information is not valuable. To each and everyone of us.
