How creativity works

Otoharo!

I have said all this before many years ago.

Back in the 60's I lived in savannah, Ga. was supporting three youths, so worked at two jobs. The evening job was as counselor in the alcohol clinic which had been created by one of the local family phyicians. This being before federal funds were available, before the Comprehensive mentla health programs began. One of the participants in the alcohol clinic was THE local ARTIST. Her wroks far outshone all the other artists of the area. What talent! Anyway, she liked the comments I made in group and began fostering a relationship. She had me out to her dwelling which was on the water front of the Savannah River, the elitist part of town. I was IMPRESSEd by all of this. She offered to give me art lessons (which seemed her way of repaying me for the help she got from me).

She had prepared an easle with brown wrapping paper, a large blank space and told me to draw five apples. Charcoal was what I was to draw with. I was overwhelmed by this big space before me, daring me. Not really knowing what to do, I lifted a stick of charcoal and immediately my stomach told me what to do! It was uncanny. It was so outstanding, this impulse. So my hand followed the stomach's directions and I was realy surprised that five apples appeared in a quite pleasing arrangement.

This morning, I was reminded of this. I had written a new song, had the notes drawn out on staff paper but was stimmied as to where the measure bars went. I played it and played it and still couldn't tell exactly. It is more complicated than what I usually write. So I finally went with what I felt. Then played it more and found I had put the measure bars in places my fingers did not like. So I just played and played over and over. My fingers finally got the message across to me where the accent beat is so I could put in the bars where they truly belong.

What a lesson. What a substaniation for the truth that mind is in every cell of the body. my fingers knew. All I had to do was pay close enough attention to catch it.

Finality,

Not sure this relates...but there are those who speak of
"cell memory" or "cellular memory".

I enjoyed your stories very much.

Peace Be,
