Dear friends,
I recently heard a woman senator (democrat) talk about how health care programs in this country are set up or created by the pharmaceutical corporations. Talk about vested interests. No wonder docs keep their patients on anti-depressants for so long. It's legal and keeps people from thinking on their own. Any comments on this welcome as most mental health programs or associations are also funded by some pharmaceutical company.

- sounds like a lot of propaganda to me

- I think you will find a rather different picture if you did a little genuine research into how mental health is funded (or under-funded)

- rather than swallowing whole the dregs of some politician's axe-grinding

Well i DID check on the mental health association here where I live and researched their web site and found out Lily pharmaceutical is listed as a funder. Well not much anyone can do. Thanks for your imput as I always take what you say into consideration.

- an important factor is the level of funding

- some private clinics are, well, privately funded which can include pharmaceutical companies

- but, I would wager that the majority of people who seek mental health services do so at clinics funded by state, local, and federal tax dollars

- since the employees likely also receive at least part of their wages and salaries from tax dollars, such clinics may not be able to accept money from companies whose products they may prescribe - the same is true where clinics are at least partially funded by research grant money from tax dollars

- conflict of interest (and I have met more than 1 or 2 people at my university who, privately at least, complain loudly about conflict of interest regulations)
