Hi fellow Cafe patrons,
A few days ago, I began to feel a pleasant flow of very subtle vibrations
throughout my body while I am meditating.
The energy flows first from the palms of both hands, up the arms to my
torso and then, throughout my body. I was pleasantly surprised. This energy
has increased in intensity.
Several years ago, I felt this flow of energy during the guided meditation
portion of my yoga class. Again, it started in the hands, then to the elbow, but
never passing beyond that point.
As this is new to me, I would appreciate very much your comments and any
information about it.
Blessings,
resplen

Dear Resplen,
I have had that type of experience and wonder if it's that I'm expecting something and into going into that it stops. I just keep on breathing while noting it and letting it go as to not get hung up on it. Could I ask what you were visualizing at the time as of course that is a factor.

Dear Resplen,
Perhaps you are feeling a change of frequency in your energy field? It is well known that in states of meditaton the brain puts out low-frequncy alpha waves. I don't know if this would apply to the whole aura.
Rock On!

Hi Prosperity,
Thank you for responding to my post.
My practice during meditation is to follow the breath,
think the word, "peace" and then, focus on a high pitched
sound that I hear. I feel extremely relaxed and expect nothing.
The sensation continues throughout the meditation session.
Yes, not to get hung up on it is key. I just want to understand it.

Resplen,
/*\ Namaste :-}}
- in Kundalini Yoga there are certain pranayamas that specifically call for drawing energy in thru the hands - sometimes one at a time, sometimes serially, sometime simlutaneously
- the energy is then directed elsewhere
- Qi Gong also has some exercises that involve the hands
- so myu feeling is that you were breathing the energy in thrui your hands

Firekeeper,
Thank you for very much for the information.
I did not consciously nor intend to draw energy in thru
my hands, so I don't know why it happened....
Now, I am wondering what practical use I can make of this
info. I can direct this energy to an area of concern then?
Thanks again.
Blessings,

Firekeeper,
Is there a book you might recommend my reading to
learn how I can direct energy through breath work or,
is it enough, do you think, that the energy does go
throughout my entire body, and so there is no need to
direct energy to a specific area?
I am very new to this...
Thank you.

- having the energy everywhere always sounds like a wonderful thing (and, I suppose it is) yet if it is not primarily where one 'needs' it then some could be said to be doing less than it might
>:-}}
- it also suggests that one is not applying mindful intention to the energy
- I learned the basics of mindfulness in Shambhala Meditation seminars and also thru kundalini yoga practices and shamanic training
- keep in mind that Mindfulness Meditation is largely taught as a 'spiritual practice' based on techniques brought to the West by Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche but can be applied non-secularly - Shambhala Society teaches mindfulness meditation to anyone and with little or no buddhist teachings thrown in - so our local Shambhala center has buddhists and non-buddhists in meditation classes
>:-}}
- A Key point I feel one must keep in Mind: one must still be able to generalize and adapt these principles of Mindfulness to other practices such as Reiki
- I will contact one of our meditation instructors and see if I can come up with a book that might suit your request and E-mail the title to you or Post it here at Resources Board

Firekeeper,
I thank you for all your comments.
I appreciate your efforts re securing an appropriate book title for me on
mindfullness meditation. Thank you.
Needless to say, I think mindfullness crucial in the practice of Reiki as well.
I will seek out a Shambhala center; hopefully, there is one locally.
An aside: Another discussion might revolve around meditation to empty the
mind as opposed to mindfullness meditation. It was during the former
meditation that I experienced the onset of the energy coursing throughout
my body.... At any rate, I am grateful to learn that I can redirect the energy
through mindful intent to promote well-being.
Thanks once again.
Blessings,

Firekeeper,
Your " but, do not jump to conclusions about Mindfulness Meditation
as taught by Shambhala Center teachers" has the hint of a caveat.... More specifically, please?
Thank you, again.

- one view is that not jumping to conclusions is a pretty good way to face the world any time
>:-}}
- you said, in part: "An aside: Another discussion might revolve around meditation to empty the
mind as opposed to mindfullness meditation."
- you seem to have already catagorized Mindfulness Meditation as taught in Shambhala without any experience with it at all - but correct me if I mis-interpretted this remark
- hence my suggestion about not jumping to conclusions about Mindfulness Meditation

Firekeeper,
I have found an Insight Meditation group location very near me.
Insight Meditation is rooted in the Theravada Vipassana tradition.
I wondered what thoughts or knowledge you might have and
be able to share wtih me about Insight Meditation with regard to
my desire to pursue the study and practice of mindfulness.
Any thoughts you might offer would be appreciated.
Blessings,

- I am not familiar with the specific variations of that School - in sanskrit vipassana means "insight"
- however, to fully garner the benefits of meditation insight is always required
>:-}}
- there is a book - "Mindfulness in Plain English, Updated and Expanded Edition (Paperback)
by Bhante H. Gunaratana (Author) "THE SUBJECT OF THIS BOOK is vipassana meditation practice..
- it was suggested to me as an additional source but I have not looked at it yet
- good luck.
