Blessed healing circle ~ accept this offering.
From friend, Lisa
One
As the soot and dirt and ash rained down,
We became one color.
As we carried each other down the stairs of
the burning building,
We became one class.
As we lit candles of waiting and hope,
We became one generation.
As the firefighters and police officers fought
their way into the inferno,
We became one gender.
As we fell to our knees in prayer for
strength, we became one faith.
As we whispered or shouted words of
encouragement, we spoke one language.
As we gave our blood in lines a mile long,
We became one body.
As we mourned together the great loss,
We became one family.
As we cried tears of grief and loss,
We became one soul.
As we retell with pride of the sacrifice of
heroes, we become one people.
We are
One color
One class
One generation
One gender
One faith
One language
One body
One family
One soul
One people
We are The Power of One.
We are United.
We are America.

Beau's comments:
I love this poem. But I was saddened that it took 9-11-01 for us to bring barriers down.
It also disturbs me that we 'come together' at the expense of a perceived enemy. Oh, for the day where we will live in the wonder, love, experience of Oneness just because it IS.
~
For me, The Power of One is the human family.

We are a peope reaching, seeking, becoming ...
We are a new-birthing planet, touching the face of an Unseen Creator, seeking clues for the journey ~
Groping awkward infant-digits for a map, an emotional compass, some life-directions, specific guidance.
We receive only love, permission, total freedom, choice after choice after blessed/terrible choice.
With perhaps glimpses of shimmering light and the distant rumblings of cosmic laughter
Turn Your Face, Gentle Maker, toward our reaching fingers this day.
~
Left to our own devices, we:
~ separate
~ name
~ divide
~ categorize with increasing sophistication.
Still, our Creator's eyes shine unseen, like those of earth-parents who know infant-babbling holds the seeds of language~understanding.

I believe Oneness is terrifying [it has been for me] because we fear looking within
~
It seems to me, duality's function is to keep the dance alive that tells us parts of our inmost selves ~ parts we have refused to honor, accept and embrace ~ are not-us.
Instead, we judge these parts without mercy, detest them, fight to discard them, split them away, bury them in our neighbors to make them totally other, play 'good vs. evil' games ... Oh, I know the horror of looking within ~ but, for me, freedom will never be won/One by defeating an outside foe. Gandhi once said he had three great foes in his life: the British, the people of India and himself: and he said he was the most difficult foe to battle.

Let burning candles guide us into Light; let healing make its home with us.

'Litany against Fear'
["Dune" ~ Frank Herbert]
"I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will work the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain."
