Pretty cool eh? After I add some more stuff and makes some changes I'm going to start advertising the hoboken site. I think it won't be too long before its really hopping.

And after the Hoboken site is going, I'm going to add Cafe's for the surrounding towns and Manhattan. The really cool thing is that I can start new sites by just adding the info to the database. After a while I can make is so other people can add new sites! I'm pretty excited about it. This is also a big part of why it took so long to get started; I wanted to get the foundation right in the beginning and build on that.

Mike,

Be sure to put Seattle/Tacoma on the board too! Often I think I'm alone up here in the great Pacific Northwest.

Preiestess,

Well, when there is someone who is willing to run and promote a site for Atlanta, then there will be one. Each local community will need someone who lives in that community to run it.

If you are willing to run a site for your local area then it can be set up, but it would reqire a commitment on your part.

Namaste,

Carolyn,

The same goes for you as for Priestess. Each site needs a person to run it.

My vision for the Nexus Cafe is for it to be a collection of individual sites where the main portals would be local physical communities and the secondary sites would be the special interest sites (like the Reiki Cafe). I personally think that the real power of the internet in a social context is that it can make it easer to get to know people in your own area and this is what I'm attempting to create with this site.

The Reiki Cafe as seen at whitefire.com has been the prototype for a simple community site. The Nexus Cafe is the next step where I can stamp out as many individual sites as I please.

However, just having the technology does not make the community. The People make the community. I am hopping that the users of the Reiki Cafe will plant the seeds for the Nexus Cafe. In that I mean that I am hoping that many of you will want to run your own community sites for the local areas where you live. I would really like to see this site take on a life of its own where the people who use the site take a part in shaping, nuturing, and growing it.

I think that one of the reasons so many community sites never take off is because the people who make them don't actually use them and assume they know what the users want.
So what do you think of all this?

Namaste,

-Mike

Carolyn,

You think you are alone. Try living in Portland! (the red headed step-child of the Pac. NW, no ofense intended to anyone) :-)))))

Rebecca,

I could say where's Portland but I won't. We went through there on the way back from seeing Priestess in Idaho. I now know of four of us in the great PNW that practice Reiki.

At least you know you are no longer all that alone up here.

Mike,

Just got back to town..
Does running a site mean you need to know about computers and what makes them run? These last 4 months is my first real time on the computer! If running a site can be done with ignorance, count me in!

Priestess,

All you need to know is how to use the web. If you run a site you will have access to some web based administration tools that will allow you to do some administration functions. It's no more difficult than using the message boards.

At the moment, I still need to make one more important section for the site. After I have that done, we can start making more sites.

Namaste,

-Mike

Mike, I have been reading through this list, and wondered whether you are considering your UK based members. As far as computers as concerned, I'm a bit of a wimp, but would be willing to have a go at running a local board, if you could advise me on the neccessaries needed? LL& reiki blessings jonjo

Jonjo,

Any place in the world is fair game, but I still need to do some more work before I'm ready to really get the site going. I have not really done anything the last few weeks but I'm planning on getting some real work done next week and I'm hoping to finish the major work then.

There really won't be much involved with actually running a site as it's mostly just administering the message boards and answering emails. The real trick will be in getting it started with enough users to make it usefull.

I will let you know more after I have finished the site.

Namaste,

-Mike
