Is it my imagination or is there an epidemic of depresssion going on? It seems that half of the people I talk to are depressed and/or anxious. What is the cross cultural perspective on this? Did/do indiginous ( oh where is that dictionary?) suffer so? Why do so many women suffer from totally whacked out hormones? It also seems that many of these who suffer are either middle aged men or very spiritually minded women. But, then many of our teens are also depressed. Thankfully, I have been there, so I can relate compassionately, but I do wonder why it is so pervasive?
Any brilliant perspectives?

Namaste Feather,
To my understanding , we are all energy , we are all connected, as waves of the same ocean. When situations such as 9-11 and current events of wars are permeating the globe and responses to all this, lowering vibrational energy frequencies, it would seem that as so many levels of energy are lowered, the domino effect or hundreth monkey effect, occurs.
I read about energetic frequencies at www.energetic matrix.com ( Epilogue Two)
The Reference Guide for Essential Oils, by Connie and Alan Higley, speaks of the energy levels in MHz.
Cancer is listed as having a frequency( "a measurable rate of electrical energy that is constant between any two points.") of 42 MHz, death begins at 25MHz.
Essential oils are listed at frequencies of 52-320 MHz and states:"the higher frequencies of the essential oils can help raise the frequency of the human body to a more normal level."
For example, one favorite is , essential oil blend, "Joy"--Has a high (spiritual) frequency of approx. 188MHz. "When there is grief, the adenoids and adrenals shut down, Joy opens these glands"
Another blend, "Harmony", (all by ), "may help establish spiritual and emotional harmony within us...May promote physical and emotional healing by bringing about a harmonic balance to the chakras..."
Whatever we can do to keep our vibrational frequencies up will assist the collective frequency, from downward spiral.Keeping our thoughts, feelings and mind in as much positive energy as possible is helpful, negative emotions are lower vibrational energies.
I wonder what the frequency of Reiki and other energy work is.

Namaste Feather,
Also, according to the same book, "Negative thoughts lowered the measured frequency by 12MHz and positive thoughts raised the measured frequency by 10MHz. It was also found that prayer and meditation increased the measured frequency levels by 15 MHz ."
Remember the water crystals at and , since we are also mostly water( and the Earth is also), the effects of negative and positive thoughts thoughts are clear. Sometimes it does take a conscoius effort to turn the thoughts around from depression to higher thoughts, with the pull of world events, but it has definitely been proven to make a difference in energy frequency, for one and ultimately for all.

Dear Feather,
True tribal cultures are maybe more attuned to the realities of everyday life & perhaps with less expectations than we do. To have enough to eat might be the focus of the day. We have so many "needs" to be fulfilled & we compare ourselves to others & what thay have, we have complicated our lives.
Part of the reason for hormonal imbalance is the horrendous diet most of us are ao attached to. To say nothing of the constant bombardment of toxins & poisons in food, water, air, etc.
When we awaken to the beauty of spirit, we also are more positive ourselves & tend to focus on that.

Namaste Holobon,
Thank you for this information also. Im reminded of a book called Health Secrets of the Hunzas, who live in the Himalayas, have no hospitals and apparently no illneses, their diet is all natural, and needless to say they seem to be remotely distant from pollution and stresses of everyday complicated, life, thus more in tune naturally with Nature and Spirit.
Diet, pollution , everyday stressors and materialism definitely have their effects on our energy , immune systems and body, mind and spirit.
All the more reason to go back to the peace of nature as
much and as often as possible.
Communing with Nature is another way to de-stress, getting endorphins going thru brisk walking or exercise for 30 minutes, is helpful ( does anyone know other ways to get the endorphins going).
I read an article in Readers Digest while waiting for an appointment the other day and the article revealed a study wherein persons who were depressed, who walked for 30 minutes three times a week were no longer depressed after 16 weeks.... Also read in a Health Magazine about the effects of jalapeno peppers to stimulate endorphin production--the magazine even listed recipes which included the peppers.
Hugs and Thymus thumps ( with aromatherapy over the thymus, and saying "Love" while thumping, are also helpful for the immune systems which , with stress are depleted and with aging the Thymus shrinks ( stress has shown to shrink the Thymus also.) Doing a few things can make a difference in the way we feel and bring the vibrations up ...Joyous journeys all around...

Feather,
/*\ Namaste :-}}
- I don't know about brilliant, but one view is that we let too much "stuff" accummulate through all our little day-to-day denials of our stresses, anxieties, angers, etc
:-}}
- at some point in the accummulation process we pass that "threshold" which in some way then signals "Depression", etc.
- and even then we don't see it right away
>:-}}
- not enough practice in "seeing" our own issues
- hope this helps,

Namste:
I find that yoga is a really wonderful way to keep afloat with the emotions. I am sure that is helps to prevent depression. I think that it is one of the best things ever created! It has really helped me with the stress of returning to Ground Zero where my office is. It has helped on many levels. I think more people are gravitating to the practice of yoga like I did in the recent past few weeks. I think that Yoga is becoming really popular in NYC these days!
I have been contemplating a t-shirt with the slogan "Yoga saved my Life!" Why not?

Namaste Feather,
This is an interesting observation, as I too have been seeing and feeling this around me.
I concur with the previous comment concerning living energy all connected, as well as the powerful shifts we have all been experiencing, in particular since 11/9.
There have been many scientific studies on behavioural patterns, but the ones that really astounded me were the observations made on animals/birds where similar species in different locations around the world somehow learn the same skills - with no opportunity of contact - the universal consciousness.
I am finding people are so far out of the comfort zones at the moment - with so many expressing the speed at which change is occurring and their discomfort at the speed, as well as their fear for the future, that this is having a negative response in our bodies by way of health and mental issues.
Why middle aged men, spiritually minded women and teens? There are very probably many reasons - as there are stars in the sky (lol) but a few spring to mind.
Middle aged men (and women) getting to the 'middle of their life and realising they haven't achieved what they wanted to and feeling they will never get a chance to now.
Spiritually minded women and teens - both are usually visionaries, and when their beautiful visions are battered by events such as 11/9 the bubble takes such a denting that holding onto that vision is hard for them to maintain - until such time as they can build up their strength once more.
I will leave the last thought to Louise L Hay who said, 'The point of power is always in the present.' When people really understand they cannot change the past, and the future is an illusion, and that the present is the now and all powerful BEing, then they have the tools to move forward.
In light & love

Namaste Feather Just a quick idea on each one of the groups you mentioned. Middle aged men in lieu of 9/11 must feel a little more vunerable and they saw people like them selves die tragicly. Society seems to value middle aged men with power. alot of that power was lost in September.
Spiritually minded women are probably picking up an all the energy around. It's hard not to with an event of this magnitiude.
Teens have not lived through anything. Some are probably anxious about the war and their future.Everything looked so promising and the golden life of e-coms. Anyway that's my contribution. Hope it adds something to your query. Narmaste Beth

Namaste AIM,
Thanks for the reminder, I recently returned to Yoga after many years away and having taken up Reiki since the last Yoga practices, the effects are truly wonderful , awareness enhancing, stress reducing, very grounding, and seem to invoke energies of peace, love , light ,joy, healing and balance.
Years ago I took classes at a Yoga center, but I also use the simple booklet caled:"Light of Yoga Society-Beginners Manual YOGA" by Alice Christensen and David Rankin. ( published by Simon and Shuster). According to the book, written under the direction of Swami Rama , who stressed the "perfect physical and mental balance one attains in Yoga when it is practiced slowly and correctly."
Reiki blessings always, love,
earthsmis
