How can you tell if you have a young soul or an old soul? Some people can't even tell IF they have a soul, let alone how old it is.

I don't personally understand about "old" versus "new" souls.

I think that all souls have been forever. Perhaps it has more to do with 1.the amount of wisdom picked up, or 2. the number of lifetimes on the planet earth. Earth being (I hear) one of the more difficult planets to experience life, compared to some of the others.

3. Of course, there is sort of a one-ups-manship for a person can say they have an old soul, compared to yours, which obviously is a new one and not as wonderful as mine!!

Of course, as we all know, age has nothing to do with wisdom!

Great question. I have no idea. I do know my nephew is an old soul, it is a feeling I get when I am with him. Aren't you glad I gave you this purely scientific answer. I guess as in everything. Trust your own instincts.

In regards to souls ... I have never met anyone that I feel this is their first experience. The term 'old soul' has been overused (in my opinion).

There are a couple of books that I really enjoyed reading a few years ago ... Journey of Souls and Destiny of Souls by Michael Newton. The author is a hypnotherapist in California who's practice includes helping people with past lives ... but, more than this ... the lives between the lives, or the spirit lives. Very interesting.

When thinking of an old soul ... you have to think of this ... we have not only incarnated in this space of earth but have been in many other places and spaces. We are travelers of experiences of what it takes for our souls to grow and evolve, which is constant. Earth is young ... so look at the age of the earth and go beyond that to the age of the Universe and that is how long we have been around.

I have found personally that when we focus on today and what this day holds and how it impacts our lives ... our tomorrows follow suite ... and our yesterdays hold true.

I agree with this. All of our souls have been around since the beginning. It is just that some still young in learning their soul lessons. It is also, as has been said, that some people have had more lives on EARTH and some have spent more time in spirit or on other planets in the universe. I have heard many times that earth is a very difficult place to be, compared to other planets. That we are the only planet with disease. We can learn our soul lessons faster here because of the challenges.

Just as our muscles develop from excercise, our soul develops by relating to other souls in many, many different situations. You can get a huge amount of those challenging situations on this planet.

I have no idea how many lives I've had on this planet or anywhere else, but I assume it is many. It is irrelivant in our everyday lives. The important thing....is to take each day as a blessing and another opportunity to love and to learn. Every time I think I've got a handle on it and start to breathe a little easier, life gives me more stuff do deal with and more challenging people to relate to. Oh well, I'm here for the learning. I hope I take a long time in between lives to rest up before I come back, assuming I choose to do so.

I think the impression of age has more to do with how many times it has been around the block as opposed to how long it has lived on the block so to speak.

I think we all have old souls, some may have more/different experiences than others or more readily have access to those experiences through a variety of avenues which makes them appear to be older.

I feel/believe we have been created over a long period of time....ages to be more precise. The creation of souls is an ongoing process of the creator. therefore, some are older than others.

People sometimes say to me that i'm an old soul. If that is true then why can't I a) keep my room organised, or b) tae my own advice?

Does it matter? Do younger souls have to make the tea by defualt of hierachy? Or are older souls better at making tea and so should show the younger ones how?

If you really want to know hw old a soul is you could always try cutting the person in half and counting the rings around their middle.... or is that trees?

Seriously though, I believe that 'age of soul' just reffers to the inherent wisdom some people seem to have. I usually think of it as just an expression.

My humble opinion......old souls have chosen to undertake more experiences in earth school and have intergrated them into the soul...........

I always tell people I have an 80 year old granddaughter that just happens to be stuck in a 5 year old body......If you could see her talk to people, respond to life circumstances and clean house.....you would agree.

We should set up my nephew Andrew(6) and your granddaughter. It would be great to hear how these 2 old souls carry on a conversation. That intense look they get in their eyes. Priceless!!

Thank you all so much for your views. I still don't know how old my soul is, but I know my husband and I have been around the block a few times together. Maybe in past lives we were also together. But, anyway, thanks again.
