Namaste to all my Reiki friends,

Any thoughts as to how to interpret this?

About 4:30 am this morning, I had been awake and was trying to get back to sleep. I was in that twilight state, when I felt a sense of wind next to me, then I felt a presence suddenly rush into my body into the solar plexus area, which then became very warm, radiating a sense of energy and heat. The heat suddenly left, and then I head a bird chirping in my head, very gently. Then it stopped and the sensation of heat encompassed the area from my neck down to my torso. At that I panicked, trying to wake myself up.

My husband thinks I was just sleeping. I'm pretty sure I was more awake than asleep. What are your thoughts on this? I had been on and off listing to a cd of American Indian music for the past 2 days. I wonder if that had anything to do with it. It's funny but 1/2 hour before this experience I had the presence of mind to call upon Archangel Michael to protect me. I've never done that other than driving and doing Reiki. I have also been reading a book written by an American Indian Shaman about medicine wheel, etc. lately a lot.

I cant tell you what that was, but I also have some intteresting experinces in that inbetween state of sleep and consciousness, like hearing bells or voices(my voice to be exact) that wakes me out that twilight state.

I think that the twilight state is very powerful, it seems that is where you are "available" to the spirit world so to speak.

When I was doing Reiki on myself, my spleen chakra got very warm like a hot water bottle was inside my stomach, I also had feelings that were the same as my attunment, my master said that I was working with a "higher vibration".

Isnt a bird like a messenger symbol?

THe only thing I can think about these experinces is that they are a normal process when your third eye is opening. Any way that is my opinion, and I havent been doing this long.

i might recomend that you seek a sweat lodge experance, they can be very powerfull and awakening.

I can relate to your post. The most intense vision I have ever had was while doing chores & listening to the tape, Gathering of the Shamans, a recording of native american music. Around that time I was reading a great deal of literature regarding native american spirituality & had a Cherokee friend fashion a hoop for me with the four directions on it. My advice is not to interpret what you experience in any way other than to remain open & accepting & not let fear hold you back. Once you "decide" what it means, you eliminate other possibilities from your mind. Remain open & a knowingness will grow within you. Be patient, it may take some time. Prayers of protection may arise from intuition, experience,fear or memories, but can they ever hurt?? Personally, I see each prayer of protection as a reminder to us that we have help available, that we are not alone. Feeling alone & vulnerable can foster fear,helplessness & negativity. Do not panic, that will not help you. (That I do say from personal experience) What you are exposing yourself to in the waking state is "awakening" you to other realities in other layers/states of consciousness. Usually, we tend to push those experiences away, especially when those around us and/or loved ones see them as wierd or unusual. But they are perfectly normal.

In that twilight time I have heard & experienced many things including an intense rush into my body with a loud "whoosh". I do not pretend to "know" what it means although some have given me their interpretations.

Thanks for all your input. I have been thinking about this, and I do agree that it was most probably my spirit returning to my body. But where does the bird fit in? I own a cockatiel and do like birds. I've saved some and feed many by my home.

I read that the American Indians believe that each person is born with a totem spirit attached. Could it be that mine is a bird and it's the totem that returned? The bird sound seemed significant.

About a year ago I had an uncomfortable experience of 'take over' during sleep. I later found that a large broken (litrally in shattered peices) mirror had been placed under the bed I had slept in that night. My expereince was very different from yours. In retrospect it felt like a spirit was trying to get Reiki by entering me. I simply called for it to stop, usuing Reiki and spirit to enfroce this. the next mosrning I gave the room a good talking to about asking permission before enetering and whilst others expereinced things in their again, I did not. Ofcourse I could have simply just awoken whilst not yet fully in body.

It sounds however as if you were having a more Reiki related experience, and maybe going into a 'journeying' state in your sleep. Journeying is a shamanic practice as well as other traditions. The birdsong would signify this for me. You are always control of giving permission or denying it to most spirtual experiences.

Protect yourself and make a clear load statement that you give no permission for any energy other then Reiki or God to enter you. My Mantra in such situations has always been 'If you have anything but love for me, and wish me anything but well, leave NOW'.

Other then that let yourself deepen in your practice as this hightened sensitivity can be a sign of you opening to new places.

Remember that nothing can hurt you, and be always with love.

Thanks for sharing your experience and advice. I can see that mine was not meant for harm, as it happened despite call for protection beforehand.

I have tried looking up significance of bird totem, and although I don't know what type of bird this was, the canary is for opening up the voice and singing, and I have been contemplating heavily studying voice again and opening and freeing up my voice. The chakras involved are the throat and heart, and after I heard the bird in my head, the spirit went to my throat and heart, which began to panic me, as the sensation was a heating up, which when you are not in command of this can cause you to fear choking.

I now feel a bit awed over this experience. It is so hard to open up when the experience comes so unexpectedly. I suspect that over a period of time and many more experiences I will get used to this.

Hi Starlight.

Hopefully you will never get used to them. I hope I don't get used to new and unexplained experiences that have happened to me since I started to walk this path. Isn't it exciting to be able to experience the unexpected.

I have learned to ask who is there. If the person is representing the Holy, they will say that. Anyone not representing the Holy can not say that. That way I know exactly who is there. When you ask help from a guide or angel, expect them.
