Well, I may be thought a madman for tossing up such a topic as tarot in a reiki forum, even a general-discussion reiki.... But I feel that tarot is based on the mind, and the more you step away from the "cards", the more you step -to- the mind. This, in my opinion, has a very strong basis in the mind, the energies (used, through the third eye, for spiritual readings), and countless other realities... Being a tarot reader with some amazing readings, by very little experience, I long to know how deep into the "nonmagical" part of the self you can take it. I know the rabbit hole to wonderland doesn't end on "it's magic"... I also feel in my energy work, my tarot skills have increased....I'll stop here..any comments/retort?

Hi Abraxas,
I agree :) In my opinion, Tarot, when read psychically as opposed to from a book, amounts to some kind of telepathy with the client. I think basically, a psychic connection/link is made with the client, and the cards are there to be interpreted psychically. I think the reading would vary on how good the link was.
I don't think books are much good for advanced readers. The explanations of the cards are different in every book, because i notice each card, can mean a different thing to another person, while i admit keeping the general idea. I'd be disappointed if i paid to have a reading, and found the 'reader' with a 'Meanings Of Tarot' or whatever book on his/her lap under the table! This does actually happen...
I like to look at the pictures, and study every fine detail. Then using the intuitive side, everything falls into place, (theoretically, but then again, i'm just learning myself! LOL).
I don't think it's magic at all, it's just using different parts of the brain and higher energy vibrations. Humans tend to brand anything we can't yet explain as 'magic' or in some cases, 'devil's work' etc! Hehe.
Have you taken notice of how your readings go, in accordance with the phases of the moon? I've had reports of psychic and also healing abilities, improving or decreasing as the moon waxes and wanes...
I wonder if something like Tai' Chi would help?
Take care.
Graham.

Well that was a waste of time writing...
If i were to start a discussion topic, i'd make sure i returned to the board at least once after posting to see if anybody had replied...... :)

No, it wasn't a waste of time. I read it and found it very interesting. I personally did not respond because I don't know anything about the Tarot. BUT, I was glad to read what you had written.

Thanks Julie,
I'm glad at least somebody read it :) My comment was purely tongue-in-cheek by the way...
This board needs an injection of conversation, don't you think?

Abraxas,
Namaste.
I sometimes read the Toth tarot for myself - developed my own layout - inspired from the Three Pillars of the Kabballah.
A great book, if you can find it is Jung and Tarot: An Archetypal Journey by Sally Nichols.

I agree about the connection. I have been reading tarot for years, and the stuff that comes out of my mouth sometimes really surprises even me! I will occasionally tell my guide thanks, that was really interesting....!
Once you are doing energy work, the ability to connect with another person grows astoundingly..

Priestess,
I know what you mean :) I love doing energy work and meditation. I agree, the more energy you have built up, the better results in whatever you are doing psychically (Not sure about the spelling!).
I remember once, when i first started energy work, i was sending colors via telepathy to a friend of mine, and vice versa, and i saw this little cute rainbow, with the bands of color growing stronger when my friend concentrated on each one in turn. When i told her what colors i saw, i was exactly right, and so was she when we swapped over. I guess we were really 'tuned in' to each other. It's good fun :)
I often see what colors to send out when giving reiki, and some recipients tell me they've seen kaliedoscopes of color.
As for tarot, one day something 'clicked' and i improved a lot, but i'm still learning. :) I like to visualise the people on the tarot cards to see what they are doing when reading, it's a great help ;) What kind of tarot do you use?
I notice my energy waxes and wanes with the moon, do you find this?

I have no experience of working with Tarot (except as a client/recipient), however, a girl I work with is very in tune with her guides and we had an interesting time together. She had a pot of coloured polished stone and we decided to experiment to see if we could 'see' the stones whilst holding them in our palms with our eyes closed. I was convinced it wouldn't work. She went first and, after warming up to it got about 50% right. I was really pleased to be able to do about the same with my limited experience. I noticed that I could feel the heat from the warmer coloured stones as they were held above my palm. This was very encouraging!
Not exactly Tarot, I know, but fun and mind expanding anyway.

Hi Sally,
If you want to practice, i found that this little exercise works to help accquaint you with your own sensitivity.
Get a deck of playing cards, and remove all the picture cards and set them aside. shuffle the number cards.
lay them face down on the table.. then pick up one at a time, and lay it in the palm of one hand face down. feel the color. once you say it, look at it. if you were right put in one pile, wrong put in another. Once you go thru 10 - 20 cards, count the cards in each pile. about 25% is guessing. up to about 50% you are starting to get it. above that, WOW!
The problem is that if you do this for too long at a time, the mind really gets bored, and quits telling you any thing. so short bursts are great... (Picture cards are pretty much impossible for me, since there are so many colors on them.)
Love and light, Louise

Hi Sally,
Excellent! I'll try this myself.
What you're describing sounds like a kind of psychometry.
Another form of psychometry to try with stones, rocks, crystals etc is to find a quiet corner with a friend, close your eyes, relax, and hold a crystal or whatever in your hands for about five to ten minutes, whilst concentrating on a particular event, subject, emotion, or color (which is easier i think), but without telling the other person.
When you're ready, give the crystal to your friend and let them hold it for a while to see what they can pick up, or do it together and swap over :) Make a note of things you see, smells, emotions, words, sounds etc, and compare!
Before i forget, cleanse the stone or whatever first...
Try this on jewellery, such as rings, which have been worn for years. Who knows what's in there! It's good for something to do on a rainy day, but then again the only thing i know that's better is to actually go out into the rain and get absolutely soaking wet! Yay! ;)
Take care.
Graham.

Hi Louise
Thanks for the tip. I think I will have a bash at this. It seems that it is the kind of thing I can do in a quiet moment at work. I am fortunate enough to get these and tend to sit quietly reading or writing, so it will be the perfect environment.
Thanks again, will fill you in on my scores!!

Hi Graham,
Thanks for taking the time to answer. The friend I did this with has done lots of this stuff and is very talented, so much so that I wonder if she can read my mind ALL the time! (Can be a little disconcerting).
Rainy days withstanding I reckon we'll have another go. She is very keen to get me to join her at her spiritualist church, which I am a little wary of still. Time will tell.
Thanks again, funny, I did the soaking wet thing the other month for the first time and your right, it was Yay! My husband thought I'd lost the plot!
Love and light

Hi Priestess
Apologies first. I dived into this post and don't know the history yet. However, it struck a chord with me. Since doing Reiki I have found that in my work (mainly in massage, as opposed to reflexology) I 'connect' with various clients. It is a very strong feeling as if we almost become one. I know this sounds bizarre but they are usually the best treatments I give. It is also usually on the clients who are quiet and ready to accept the treatment rather than blocking me or them with a variety of barriers such as chattering. It is also good when I tune into the music that is playing and 'lose myself' in it. I think this has a lot to do with my Dad, who is dead now, but was a great musician. He's probably with me then. I know this might sound odd but I don't actually go wierd or anything, just more focused on the energies in the surrounding atmosphere.
Is this a self orientated attitude? I don't think so because the client invariably gives good feedback and comes back for more. (This is also when I am truly myself - at one with my inner self I suppose)
Sorry to go off on a tangent!
Love and light and music.

Sally,
I know that the angels love music also. When there is great music playing, they are so happy... They just dance and move to the music...
Music tends to put most of us in a place somewhere between 'real time' and 'meditation'. There is probably a term for it, but if I ever heard what it is, it is long forgotten... :o)
If it makes you feel happy to draw your father in when the music is playing, I am sure his energy is with you...
I know that if a client talks to me a 'little' it is not pulling me away from that place where I am 'between', and the session still seems to go very smoothly. If I have a 'chatterbox', or someone always asking questions, it is very tiring. I have to go 'in and out' more than is comfortable on a rapid basis. I have a client that comes to me infrequently, that I once requested to save his questions until the end. He was so much in his head (still is) that it was extremely distracting.
If I do an 'emotional release' before the reiki, the reiki itself is much quicker and feels stronger with less concentration..(go figure..)
I use cd's that are 'new age' type during the session. A lot of the tones that are in these, induce a more or less sense of loss of time. All are about an hour long, and serve an added bonus of letting me know the timing without having to look at a clock!
I don't really remember what this thread was about originally. no need to apologise.. <K>

Hello,
I also having been reading the Tarot for about 6 years now.I definately feel it is a way of connecting to the sitter and opening up a compassionate bond with them and their guides, similar to when doing Reiki on a client.
When I had started reading cards I had also done psychometry and began recieving messages from my guides(one inparticular) to tell the sitter.I understand now that It opened my mind and world and was the start of preparation to my life as an empathetic healer. I have since communicated with others guides and have others which help me with healings.
I occassionaly will still read cards for friends, however try to avoid the stigma of being a psychic witch,
especially when I am trying to be viewed seriously as a Reiki healer.
Love and Light,
Healing Moon

graham,
/*\ Namaste.
From a Jungian perspective, the Major Arcana are Archetypes - and as such have rather important and "fixed" aspects. Of course different cultures sometimes "force" interpretations onto these archetypal energies as do some readers.
