its veggie. seriously, you can get veggie haggis in scotland and its rather delish. The original is basically a fat beef sausage with some bits thrown in. barley and stuff, not brains or cows bum.
so any of you tried a deep fried mars bar? still to be purchased for coin in darker parts of central scotland.

Dear Amma,
I understand the standard version, properly and thoroughly dried, also makes a wonderful doorstop.

Peace Goldenisis
ooh you made me belly laugh! here's some silly scots for you:
a poke of chips - a portion of pomme frites doused in vinegar and salt and wrapped in crisp paper. As in 'giz a poke o' chips wi' that deepfried mars bar'
red neck - the feeling of being extremely embarrassed and suffering from deep blushing. As in 'don't do that in public Tam, you're gi'in me a red neck'
winch - the act of passionate kissing. As in 'Ah Moira no-one's looking, giz a winch'.

Hi Amma.
I'm curious. I would guess a deep fried mars bar would be in some kind of pastry. Is it like a pie crust?
Sorry, I'm not English, but my ancestor were some 300 years ago.
Blessings,
Roxy

I've not tried mars bars, but bounty is wonderful deep fried.
Just make up some batter - use sparkling water instead of still, it makes a lighter batter. Dip your bounty in it and stick it in your frier.
Delicious with pineapple! :P
I assume deep fried mars is done the same?
Bright Blessings,
Evie

Peace Roxy!
its actually done in batter. The battered mars bar is unceremoniously dunked in fat - and this is the gross bit - the same fat that fries the Scottish traditional chippie fayre - fish, sausages, haggis and chicken. Mm-mm.
I've never had one but I would make my own if i had a fryer - in sweet fresh oil! May be tempted by evie's bounty suggestion..
love this cafe btw - you're all so lovely!

Firekeeper - thank you for hosting this board! I have found in a few days many friends I hope I will be able to share much with. I am happy and smiling!
Please tell me what 'namaste' means?

Dearest Firekeeper,
(shaking head in grief) "Foo on tofu"???
Tofu? The firm, the silky, the gustatorily malleable, so full of protein and phytoestrogens?
I shall ceaselessly entreat the Great Goddess Tufo that you may see the Light.
May all sentient beings have tofu aplenty,
goldenisis

goldenisis,

- it is possible that, in the Green Man's case, your little tofu soliloquy may fall on deaf leaves.
