Tolerance for Christians

Hi All,

We Reiki practitioners seem to get pretty riled up when we come up against Christians who are not tolerant of Reiki. However, not all Christians behave that way. When we meet a tolerant Christian, shouldn't we respond with at least as much tolerance for his or her beliefs?

Really perurbed,
Blessings,
Roxy

Hi Roxy, Yes I believe that we should be tolerant for anyone and there beliefs. I try to keep an open mind when it comes to that because I'm sure that they can teach us things to. Who am I to say who is right and wrong. As far as Christians, which I am,I never knew any different cause that is the was I was brought up. Now I consider myself spiritual being able to see other ways , now that I am Reiki. Just think of them as people that just haven't had the chance yet to learn more.

Dear Roxy,
If we want tolerance than yes, we have to practice it.
It is not easy to be tolerant. So perhaps we have to be tolerant of intolerance to a certain extent, understanding that it is human & often linked to personal fears or concerns.

peace & joy,
holobon

Otoahro!

Yes, Roxy. I'm for tolerance. However, I admit there are times I want to interfere when someone is putting out a lot of head stuff when Reiki is in the realm of feelings and knowings, including intension.

Well, I think that some Christians can be very cruel, stuck up and very self-righteous about their beleifs. But that's not just Christians however, it's any and every religion. Christianity just happens to be the dominant religion here, so, it's the one that is less tolerant, if was a minority religion, things would be much different.
However I am a Christian, my RM is, and her RM was a nun. My father, is a STRICT Catholic. He was very upset about me practicing Reiki. He would constantly put me down for not being Catholic and practicing Reiki. I realized one day, that this power he had over me was only the power I gave him. He would abuse it non-stop, so....I TOOK IT BACK! Now, he knows that that is a locked door for him, he's not to enter, and that I won't hesitate to put him in his place. Even though he disrespects my beleifs, I respect his, I go to his church when I'm with him.
My advice is to do the same, respect theirs even when they don't respect ours. Because that way, we are staying the bigger person. However, this doesn't mean you have to take the bunk that people throw in your face, they do it because THEY don't understand it, and because people fear what the don't understand, they feel they need to "defend" themselves.

Jordan

Jordan,

/*\ Namaste :-}}

- yes, intolerance is unhealthy for all

>:-}}

- when it is a "majority segment" that is intolerant or viewed as intoerlant then the effects can be wider

- so, a bit ironic I think that christians are complaining of intolerance toward their biases against reiki

>:-}}

reiki and tolerance all around

all blessings,

I have always thought that the truth is infinitely grander than anyone can see in one lifetime. And any religion or faith (eg christianity)or belief system or philosophy can only form one part of a much greater truth. It is A truth, but never the whole truth....this belief for me, makes it much easier to be more tolerant of others...
The good news I have witnessed just this week is that at our local St John's hospital (a Catholic based hospital and very modern and lovely), they have opened rooms for Reiki practitioners to give reiki healing to those who are sick, terminally ill, or in need of support, such as families of those in hospital. I visited these rooms with my friend who is a volunteer (and Reiki Master/Teacher)there one day each week, and it a most wonderful setting, modernly equipped. The hospital even lavish the workers and their "patients" with wonderful morning teas and refreshments, as well as providing modern kitchen just for their use. So here is one instance of a christian based institution that has embraced reiki in a lovely way.
Wouldn't it be something, to see this type of cooperation, support and unity (much more than just tolerance!) happening more often?

Otoharo!

Jordan, I am an old woman now. It was when I was a teenager like you that I began indipendent thought. My religion is very dear to me. I was a staunch Christian for many years, but not necessarily like my family roots. Then I was a Unitarian. Then I was Peace Community Church. Now I have incorporated a church that can ordain Reiki practitioners for healing purposes. We are not a church in the usual sense, but that is the only legal body which allows people to be involved in healing practices. It need not be an issue between you and other people. Let each of us be who and what we are.

Thank you for sharing.

What a wonderful thing, sunshine! Oh, don't I wish our local hospital (private, non-religious affiliated) would be that open.
