Pily is my dog. I adopted her from a shelter, she´s always in panic, and has got a bad pain down her back, probably she got it from a hit.

kixi,
/*\ Namaste :-}}
- I will add Pily to my list for nightly Reiki with animals
- if you have a Veterenarian available, and have not already done so, be sure to get Pily in for a full check-up and shots (you will be doing her a favor)

She thanks you a lot! We´ve already visited a vet, but she doesn´t find what's going on.

Have you looked into homeopathy or Bach flower essences?
Perhaps you might find one that helps.
Bach Rescue Remedy might be a good one to start with......

Thanks a lot! I tried some Bach Flowers, but it seemed not to be well chosen or she just didn't react to them (anyway they´re not very common here in Spain...).

- the panic or anxiety could certainly reflect abuse from a previous owner
- the pain is another matter - does she growl or yelp when you stroke her back?? Or does she cringe and whine?
- these could be fear responses, not actual pain
- also, doe she show any problems running or jumping or doing 'dog stuff'?? if she is fully active then she probalbly is OK physically (but not psychologically)
>:-}}
- you might also gently probe her back (if she will allow it) for any lumps that could be a tumor of some sort

I'm completely sure about it. Pily is a kind of dog "used" mainly for hunting, and in Spain those dogs aren't well trated at all. Just search images for "galgo".
Pily doesn´t even know how to play, and is scared about everything moving towards her. Men also make her nervous.

Pily only dares growling to puppies! I notice the pain not really when stroking her, but watching how she acts: she'll never coil up, she sleeps with her spine as a stick; she´s almost unable to jump; her tail is almost always between her legs (or even touching her tummy), but she lets it out (until horizontal) when she's feeling really happy. And, if you try to move her tail, she´ll cry really loudly.

The vet has been touching her, and nothing shows.
Thanks a whole lot, I'm always feeling worried about her but now I have the hope that Reiki will help her.
I'd also love to learn Reiki!

kixi,

- it sounds to me as if she has perhaps had some sort of spinal cord injury - a disc problem that pinches a nerve or some such
- I know they are expensive, but perhaps get an x-ray of her spine (an MRI would be better - and more costly)
- if it is a slipped or ruptured spinal disc I doubt reiki will correct that problem - such injuries usually require surgery and even surgery has risks and may not completely rehabilitate an injury
- if it is internal bruising that causes the pain (but the tail issue suggests otherwise) thehn that should heal eventually (but it doesn't sound like just bruising to me)
- Reiki does not repair spinal cord injurues in humans so I see no reason to think it will do any better with dogs (or other animals)
- good luch to you and Pily

Firekeeper and Kixi,
Namaste :))
I can also vouch for the fact that Reiki cannot cure spinal cord injuries.
My husband has to have a second spinal lumbar operation in a couple of weeks to sort out badly damaged discs, despite having received Reiki on and off over the past few years. It might help your dog manage the pain, but I agree it would be better to find the cause if at all possible.
Gentle Blessings

Dear Kixi,
Are there any licensed vets near you that are holistic, practice acupuncture, massage or so called natural healing techniques? ( we have a vet in our town who is part of a traditional practice but does manipulation, chiropractic, massage, etc. She prescribed Rescue Remedy for my dog after an undiagnosed episode of confusion & apparent amnesia which did work) Chronic pain as well as anxiety could certainly account for your dog's symptoms . Without a diagnostic workup including xrays it may be difficult to determine the cause. Treatment would likely be more effective if there was a diagnosis.
Rescue Remedy can be purchased in a health food store & might work for stress panic or anxiety attacks. With an alcohol base it is not an everyday type of treatment.
If you can get a copy of the book or CD The Tellington Touch it describes light massage techniques to help dogs relax. It worked for me with my dog who, from the time she was a pup, would jump if her paws or hind quarters were touched, she got to the point that she would accept touch or massage in those areas. Of course, she did not have an injury & that makes a big difference.
The other suggestion will probably make some laugh but it is one I find effective. That is to calmly talk to your dog like you would a friend & let him know that you are not sure what is wrong with him but want very much to help him feel better. Let him know that if he would help you to understand what is wrong it would help you to get treatment for him. Let him know that you need his help to make him feel better.
Any anxiety on your part will likely highten the dogs anxiety so part of the healing process is to prepare yourself before approaching the dog for a therapeutic encounter. Sounds obvious but we often underestimate the stress we humans deal with on a daily basis & animals pick it up before we do. Better to wait till you have the time & the calmness to communicate. Anxious dogs are particularly cued to sensing when we are rushed or stressed.
Try not to reinforce the dogs expressions of anxiety ( if he gets attention when he is anxious, etc it may reinforce the behaviour). Rewarding calm behaviour with love & lots of attention might help over time.
Dogs from shelters may take awhile to relax & trust again. In that, they are no different than we humans, once beaten down, it is hard to trust again.
peace & joy,
holobon

I have had some animals respond remarkably well to the flower remedies, and others just seemed annoyed with them or had no response. But when they did work, it was amazing. As with homeopathy, it can be a trick getting just the right one.
Have been sending Reiki nightly to Pily.
Hope she finds some peace.
Love,
Feather

Great suggestions!
I believe there are some decent books out there on Animal Communication. I was lucky enough to find an inexpensive class and have had fun using it. Of course, it works better when I talk to other people's pets.......sometimes MINE don't want to talk when I ask if it is a good time to talk.
I am also lucky to have a wholistic vet close by...she uses acupuncture, Reiki, Chinese Herbs, Homeopathy, Flower Essences, Reflexology, tuning forks....generally, with some trial and error , we have been able to figure out many "behavioral" issues. I hope Kixi can find someone like that!
Peace,
Feather
