Hello!

My name is Andrew Durkin, and I am the leader of the Industrial Jazz Group, a large-and-wacky acoustic jazz ensemble based in LA. We're coming out to the east coast this January for a showcase at the IAJE conference in NYC.

I have been booking other local gigs in an effort to make a small tour of it, but we still have some open dates. I recently got the hare-brained idea to fall
back on the time-honored tradition of house parties, and so I am submitting a proposal to this board in case any of you might be interested in having us perform in your home!

Here are the specs:

1. We are on the large side, between 10 and 15 players depending on the space. Though we are acoustic (traditional jazz instrumentation: saxes, brass,
rhythm section + some vocals) we can get moderately loud. Not heavy metal loud, but loud enough that you'd probably want to schedule something during the day or early evening.

2. (Free associating here:) We're not mainstream jazz. You can dance / drink / make noise to our songs. Some of our tunes feature a singer. We usually wear costumes. We have been described as purveyors of avant-g

Description: This class is designed for those who have never danced before or done very little dancing. In this class you will learn essential steps to help you survive out there to feel confident enough to dance socially at parties and clubs. BACHATA: This is a sensuous and intense dance. Be prepared to dance close! You will learn the following: the basic bachata step pattern, giving and receiving turns, proper body positioning and hands, footwork styling options, several turn combinations, hip isolations, music theory. This class is very fun and simple.

SUNDAY, JUNE 18: BACHATA, in general, has reached a lot more popularity in recent years. More nightclubs are playing it, and therefore, more people are learning it. Since the basic step pattern is not as intricate as some styles, you’re allowed to progress at a much faster pace.

SUNDAY, JUNE 25: MERENGUE, This is the easiest and
fastest way to look like you've been dancing for years. You'll feel like you brought your tropical vacation home with you. You will learn the following: timing and rhythm, basic footwork including individual turns and body and hand positioning, turn combinations are taught which incorporate basic passing skills, partner turns, as well as traveling steps Both Merengue and Bachata have very simple footwork and a whole lotta hips. You will discover how easy it is to lead or follow your partner, and to move in perfect partnership, as you show off on the dance floor.
