Get out and enjoy the fascinating and unique scenery of the Shawangunk Ridge on this Level II+ hike! The hike is approximately 8 miles and includes walking on both carriageways and single-track foot paths. We'll start the hike at the main lake and then we'll hike along the lake toward a scenic mountain ridge. We'll hike down into 2 valleys and up the other side. We'll pass by a hidden entrance to a cave where cold winds blow through at temps 10 - 15 degrees below the outside air temperature! We'll stop to watch as sometimes you'll see bats as they venture partially out!
Then we'll hike out along the ridge which has spectacular views of the valley below! We will move at a moderate pace throughout the day to ensure a cardio workout. The variation of steep hills will ensure you get a good work out in your hips, thighs and buttocks! Bring a set of walking poles or wrist weights to work your upper body. This hike will take approx. 4 1/2+ hours including all breaks.
After the hike we'll head to town for a hearty lunch at a local restaurant. Then we'll stop by a local winery for an optional wine tasting. The winery and vineyard has attracted the attention of wine judges and wine enthusiasts for their varietal wines. They also carry 160 of the best wines from wineries around the state including the Finger Lakes, Hudson Valley, and North Fork regions.
