General questions
What do you do for a living?
Work for a federal government agency in Manhattan
What religions or philosophies of life do you believe in?
I come from a Catholic family, but it didn't quite work for me. I don't practice any organized religion, but I try to maintain integrity and some sort of spirituality in the way I live. I figure if you try to make the best choices you can, everything will work itself out. I guess that's faith.
What are your favorite books?
Anything by John Irving... Jeanette Winterson is great too...
What type of books do you like to read?
As far as novels go, I tend to read things which are textually rich, but not so dense that you can just get lost in the story and the characters. I must admit I do like things that are set in the twentieth century (or at least, written in the twentieth century), and I tend to be most taken with books that examine character and relationships with a critical or introspective eye. I did an English major in college, but now that that's behind me, I'm also developing an appreciation for nonfiction -- particularly interested in books which shed light on social issues, present or historical. Just finished a fascinating book which depicted gang life in LA.
What type of movies or television shows do you watch?
ALIAS! ALIAS! ALIAS! I am addict, I must confess. I wanna be Sydney Bristow when I grow up! Sex and the City (although it does get on my nerves sometimes, I can't help it!), Six Feet Under (AMAZING acting and totally original writing... only on HBO!) , Felicity (although this is the last season... sniff...), Boston Public (another great show which should get more attention)...
What kind of music do you like?
Anything with an emphasis on songwriting, particularly lyrics... I HAVE to be able to understand what they are saying!!!... I tend to lean toward the folk/adult alternative genre (Jonatha Brooke and Tori Amos would have to be my favorites). I'm also a dedicated Sondheim fan... and I would be lying if I said dance music and good old 80s pop didn't get my booty moving... (Did I mention I saw Madonna live?!)
What type of foods do you like to eat?
I love trying unusual and different foods, especially ethnic foods... indian, middle eastern, ethiopian, malaysian, thai, vietnamese, mexican... I love them all! I'm also a vegetarian, so if you are one, that's cool, I'd love to meet you. If you're not that's cool too, none of my friends are.
Do you consider yourself to be more of a conservative or liberal person?
Liberal, but not radical... I gave up on that after a brief stint in my younger days.
What do you like to do for fun?
I love to see live entertainment -- particularly theater or live music. I love going to a really interesting movie, especially if it's with someone who likes to talk about it after it's over. I like going out to eat, or just staying home, cooking, drinking wine, BS'ing, or vegging out and watching something mindless on TV.
What are some of your interests?
Playing piano, going to the theater, working out, staying aware of animal welfare issues...
What achievements in your life are you most proud of?
Managing to survive my own, overactive imagination....
