Description

Questionaire

General questions
What do you do for a living?
I'm an independent computer guy. At present I administer a law firm's network. Host a number of websites. Am working on a number of small development projects.
My biggest interest lies in LAMP development - LAMP being an acronym for Linux Apache MySQL and PHP (or Perl - in that case maybe LAMPP would be better).

What religions or philosophies of life do you believe in?
The biggest single influence is Catholicism - though not the Church. The individuals I admire most would be the Berrigan Brothers, Dorothy Day, Catholic Worker etc. These people are often lumped together as the 'Catholic Left' though that is a misnomer.
In terms of philosophy - the Frankfurt School (Adorno, Bloch, Benjamin...).
Perhaps paradoxically, an interest in Ayn Rand - NOT as a philosophy of life but as a point of critique for the anemic liberalism so common today.
Another philosophy I have deep respect for would be the implicit ethos of open source software.

What are your favorite books?
William Blake's Illuminated books (Princeton Press series)
W Benjamin - Arcade Projects
E Bloch - Principle of Hope
Adorno - Minima Moralia
Larry Wall, et al. - Programming Perl (how tech books should be written)
Eric Raymond's writings on thrysus.net
Camus
Faulkner
Beckett
Pound and Eliot
Crossan - THe Essential Jesus
Sebald - Vertigo
Julio Cortazar - various works

What type of books do you like to read?
programming literature philospohy

What type of movies or television shows do you watch?
HBO series (the Wire, Six Feet..., etc)
(when in a zomboid mood) bad dating shows
sports

What kind of music do you like?
Dylan, T Waits, Pogues, Nina Simone - I tend to like distinctive singer/ songwriter type of stuff but also stuff like Rush or Led Zeppelin and Captain Beefheart. Eclectic I guess.

What type of foods do you like to eat?
Italian, Korean, Mexican, Cuban
tend to like spicy and garlicy food

Do you consider yourself to be more of a conservative or liberal person?
I hate conservatism more but I can barely swallow the idea of being a liberal. Liberalism is a great con IMHO. Trying to figure out the answer to this forms many of my discussions with friends, etc.

What do you like to do for fun?
stuff

What are some of your interests?
see above and also bicycling through nyc

What achievements in your life are you most proud of?
dunno what to say on this. I have not yet achieved something I am really proud of...

Hoboken questions

If you live in Hoboken, how long have you been here?
I lived here until I was 6 yrs old and moved back about 5 years ago. I have had a number of relatives here so my whole life I've come here on holidays, etc.

If you live in Hoboken, why do you live here?
To be close to NYC and to have that neighborhood feel

What do you like about Hoboken?
Some of the best aspects of a small town - people know you and after a while you have a sense of neighborhood - with most of the benefits of NYC. People are fairly openminded and cosmopolitan. Real ethnic mixture and lots of talented interesting people.

What do you dislike about Hoboken?
Some of the worst aspects of a small town - petty harassment from small town police (actually Stevens cops, Hoboken cops are OK). Parking and tickets. Overcrowdedness. Lack of dogrun spaces. Noise at times.
