I've been in the rarified atmosphere of my bridal salon for so long that the only social life I've had was hanging out with my local doggy people in the mountains. That was fine until my dogs passed away. Then I woke up and realized that everyone in this area who was my age was married with kids and I had nothing in common with them. I tried the local bars and they were in a word, SCARY. No further comment.

So I ended up hanging out with stay-at-home divorcees and retired people over 50 and though I respect their age, sometimes I really need to be around people who are still, uh, WORKING for a living...preferably not yet settled into family life.

Since I don't work in an office I have not found the natural camraderie that comes with coworkers. So here I am on this Internet Site.

General questions

What do you do for a living?

I am currently trying to decide what to do. Just closed my bridal shop and have been entertaning ideas as disparate as driving to San Francisco and looking for a new job; working for PETA in Norfolk VA; opening a new business. Feel like an octopus with each tentacle on something different and don't know which seven to release.

What religions or philosophies of life do you believe in?

I am Christian. I do not preach nor do I try to "convert" people but I will express my opinions as such. If I had a philosophy it would probably be "Don't be mean or arrogant no matter how good looking or rich you are."

What are your favorite books?

The Bible is my guidebook to life. Also did my Master's Thesis on Hunter Thompson, Oscar Zeta Acosta and Maxine Hong Kingston. Intellectuals shoot me but I also love old Stephen King, especially The Shining (which I think is more of a metaphorical love story between a father and son, than a horror story).

What type of books do you like to read?

Anything that interests me. The last one I read was Madeleine Albright's Madame Secretary, but I'm open to any type of book as long as it grabs my attention.

What type of movies or television shows do you watch?

I love Prison Break, America's Next Top Model, Supernatural, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Animal Planet, various natural documentaries (I found the Wild Parakeets of Telegraph Hill interesting)...right now I don't have cable so I don't know what's out there.

I'm very sorry I missed Mike's bulletin about X-Men b/c I wanted to go see that. I DON'T like mushy romantic epics.

What kind of music do you like?

Classical, some modern Christian, some old Christian, Jazz...Counting Crows, Sheryl Crow, U2, Cure, Cowboy Junkies, Lincoln Park, Everything but the Girl, Madonna...do not like Britney Spears and am disturbed by Cold Play (can't get over that eerie Bono-esque voice)

What type of foods do you like to eat?

All kinds except meat. Vegetarian (for the most part).

Do you consider yourself to be more of a conservative or liberal person?

I really hate political labels. I'm conservative on some issues, liberal on others.

What do you like to do for fun?

Play with dogs, take care of animals, go out, watch movies, hike, look at beatiful scenery, travel, hang out with interesting people, read, sleep.

What are some of your interests?

God and relating the bible to modern life; animal protection and welfare; fashion; art; writing

What achievements in your life are you most proud of?

My year in England and traveling through Europe alone; closing my bridal salon without leaving anyone hanging, w/great press coverage as well; my BA and MA; my personal book of poetry (not published)... I feel I have a long way to go and a lot of work yet to do, mostly on my own character.
